Where's the Comb?

Remember May of 2001? That was a good month, especially since that is when Afro started playing Lineage. For those of you out of the loop, Afro is the newest Death Knight on Depardieu. He died over ten times between level 49 and 52 but never gave up. He plays like a machine, making four to five percent per day and going from 51 to 52 in just one month. Still, he finds the time to not only wash his favorite red shirt and study computer design, but to carry on a relationship of six years with his beautiful girlfriend. He wouldn’t need to meet any famous person since he has already found the most special lady in the world. I bet she feels lucky.

You might not be able to guess, but Afro enjoys hunting Fire Valley and killing Caspa. This brave journalist had to travel deep into the heart of the Main Land Caves to find him, but it was worth it to bring you special people this interview.

His pledge, MiCowBa, frequently hunts together, which is why Afro enjoys it so much. This Taiwanese Death Knight prefers Depardieu to any of the Taiwan servers, because there are so many people that it becomes very hard to hunt, even for a 19 strength, 15 constitution knight that has added two points to strength. He says the reason he has those stats is because Afro is a rolled character.

During September he was hacked and lost all his items, but that didn’t get him down, but even though he still loves this game, he doesn’t want to level up anymore. He reached his goal and that is enough, besides that leaves more time for his girlfriend, “She hates it when I play while she’s over.”

He says that as long as you keep trying, you’ll become a death knight, it’s like the Benz of Lineage, which conveniently happens to be his favorite car. Though he may look fierce, he doesn’t really have any enemies because he prefers to stay out of trouble, so if you see him, a friendly hello and a heal go a long way.

Happy Birthday Nue!
Nue, webmaster of Nue's Lineage, has been an important part of every Lineage player's news experience. We've been able to see things months before they were released thanks to him, so we at Lineage Compendium would like to send him a message:

Ancient BowGun Spotted on Dep Server

Ok elves you can all stop drooling. It appears that Razorelf is the proud new owner of what may be the first +7 Ancient Bowgun on either server. I tracked him down at the Mother Tree, and got the low down from this level 49 CON elf.

Razorelf finished compiling what he needed, and assembled his Bowgun yesterday. He bought a sealed Ancient Bowgun from Knightryduz for an undisclosed amount, although after talking to the both of them it appears that he bought it for around 10,000,000 adena. In addition to this, he bought an unseal scroll for 6,500,000 adena and a +8 Rapier. So what do you do with this 20 million adena weapon? You b-dai it to +7!

Let me tell you, this thing is worth it too. Not only is it one-handed giving him extra AC, but we did some damage tests as well. On a level 49 Con knight using -65 AC it does about 20 damage consistently. Razorelf enchanted up, and then hit me for about 200 HP on 10 hits, taking about 20 off each time. The key here is, with the +5 to hit he didn't miss me at all!

Congrats to Razorelf and his new toy!!

Tower of Omen ( goes on to describe Omen 4-5f are just more intense versions of Omen 1-3f. More Dancing Swords, more Medusa (a strong Ramia, basically, same drops) more Chimera, more Dire Wolf. The Dancing Swords in this animated GIF look faster than they are.

Lineage Playforum ( goes on to say: On 5f there is the Lesser Dragon. It's not alone on 5f, there are still all the other monsters so far. Lesser Dragon is quite strong. Sometimes it hits for 10HP, sometimes over 500HP, instantly killing you. This was observed by a player who had -84 AC! That player noted "What exactly is the purpose of having armor?" Good point.

There is no access to 6f. To get to the insane part of the dungeon, you have to kill a Lesser Dragon and get the Scroll of Teleportation to 6f. This effectively makes Omen Tower two separate dungeons, one of which is only accessible if you kill a strong monster to begin with.

Playforum ventured to the rest of the Dungeon. On 6-8f, we find old favorites like Ghost, Death, Skeleton Fighter, Skeleton Guard, Skeleton Marksman. Add to that Medusa, Nightmare, Dancing Sword and Bone Dragon.

Bone Dragon (you can kind of see it on the right between the Red Ghost and Death) is stronger than the Lesser Dragon.

It gets worse. 9f introduces Lesser Demon, which has this horrible attack here and not only can there be more than one of them, there can be Bone Dragon and friends too. Lineage Playforum says that among the drops (of all the floors) are the blessed enchant weapon/armor scrolls and such, but 6-10f of the Tower is for level 60+ players...

Finally, if you're interested in getting to 10f, the boss is Lich. We totally expected Balrog to be there. In fact, where is Balrog and Doppleganger Boss? And is Ken Rauhel just going to be there for one siege and then never again?

More information when we get it. :)

Episode 12 Quick Notes
Two quick notes from Lineage Playforum ( and one from (

This player got a new drop "Scroll of Teleport to Omen 6f" from a Dire Wolf - more on why that is important in a few minutes in another news post.

Gelatinous Cubes (if you can live) seem to be relatively easy to tame, perhaps 2-6 attempts total. Even elves can do it!

From Jude1004: This new drop comes rarely from Lesser Dragon - it's Dragon's Blood and is rumored to be a component of something difficult to make.

Omen Tower - 1f-3f gave ( their experiences in Omen's Tower 1-3. Omen's Tower has 10 floors total. It is only accessible by the Aden Sewer.

The monsters in Omen's Tower are very difficult. Starting even at the first floor.

On the AC -69 knight pictured, the chimera was doing 40-50HP damage per hit *and* it had a poison attack. Even with a +9 Tsurugi, it was difficult to kill.

When you get to the second floor, you are introduced to the Dire Wolf. On the third floor, the Dancing Sword. Three dancing swords on one player is pretty much impossible.

Aden City
With the help of Lineage PlayForum ( and the schnazzy new satellite photo, we labelled the Aden City map in a little bit more detail.

The traditional gate defense won't work on this huge thing.

This is likely where the tower will be.

The castle steps.

The entrance to the sewer.

Get to 52 and I'll make you famous

People who only want to be Death Knights lack ambition, which is why the newest Death Knight BaekHo plans to go all the way to level 60. Baekho is online frequently - going from 50 to 51 in 20 days and 51 to 52 in just 19 days. He hails from Canada like many other Death Knights, and plays in the same game room as Pomme, Bam, Random, and KnightRyduz.

He says the biggest problem with his knight is that it was an 18 constitution knight, and it gave him many headaches because he was unsure of where to put his two points which eventually wound up in strength, bringing him to 18 strength 18 constitution. He is more hopeful about his roommate, YongTrum, who being a 20 strength knight will have his points put into dexterity.

BaekHo is a very old player coming from the Korean beta five years ago. His character was Notorious, and on the 77 server he played BestofMage7 and Innerspace. He said, “Lineage has no end, so the only thing to do is get stronger.” He can’t kill many other players now, but he said he’ll play 24 hours a day until level 60. He plans on catching both, Zeferoth and Startsnow, the two active level 55 plus knights. However, he doesn’t seem to hold much respect for PR0FESSI0NAL, who he says was very rude to him. Though he notes PR0FESSI0NAL was a good enemy to have and wishes for his return.

You might be surprised to find out that his favorite color is light blue and on rainy days it is white, but that seems less important than the fact that like many other high level knights he has a mage that follows him around healing and buffing him. He only hunts Fire Valley and says between three and seven AM he can get around 3% which is amazingly fast, only taking an hour and twenty minutes to gain 1%. He says it took him 2400 braves to go from level 50 to level 52, which is over 200 hours of being on braveries. He’d like to thank his friends and family, and hopes that soon there will be many more high level players. Just watch and see he says.

Episode 12 NPCs

Source: Lineage Playforum (
Registering with a town costs level * level * 50 adena. So, a level 44 player has to pay 96800 adena to register with a town. Once they are registered, the registration process takes a month! So, choose your town carefully, it's a big committment.

Purchasing your experience back after you die is not cheap. If you are under level 46, it seems to cost level * level * 250 to regain 6%. However, level 46 and higher cost much more. For example, 6% at level 47 costs 820k. However, you get more bang for the buck at higher levels (see discussion below).
If you're wondering about taming a Husky (the new dog), there's a bug on the Korean Test server where a successful tame turns it into a shepherd. However, initial reports put it in with beagle and doberman in terms of speed. No word yet on its strength.
Those of you who are mathematically inclined may be thinking in terms of adena per experience point. Hypothetically, at level 5, it costs about 160 adena per experience point. Up to level 45, this value decreases until it's about 23 adena per XP point. (Still not worth it). At level 47, it's about 4 adena per XP point. When we get more information about what the higher levels costs, we'll extrapolate more, but it definitely appears that the price does not go up as fast as the experience lost.

KnightRyduz hits 54 on Dep!

T’was four nights before Christmas and all through the night, not a player was stirring, not even a byte. Except a lone knight who jumped up in glee, for the famous KnightRyduz had left 53.

That’s right, citizens of Lineage. December 21st marked a good day for the famous (or infamous) KnightRyduz, leader of ReAnimated blood pledge and, until recently, a level 53 knight.

For a quick reminder, KnightRyduz is strength knight. At 51, 52 and 53 he added to his strength, bringing it up to 23. At 54 he gave his points to dexterity; he plans to continue that trend all the way up to 18. Ryduz uses a trio of +9 weapons: +9 blessed Tsurugi, +9 blessed Katana and +9 Mail Breaker (for those times when a letter opener just won’t cover it!). You can see from the picture that his AC more then speaks for itself!

Ryduz hunted Fire Valley the most but also stopped by Dragon Valley Beach and Dragon Valley Cave levels two and four. He won’t be able to hunt as much anymore and plans to stay around 54 for a while. “[It’s my] final year in high school” he explains, “So [I] can’t play as much.” He still plans to reach his goal of 60 at some point, though!

As mentioned before, between leveling and fighting Ryduz has a princess, Genoxide. Genoxide and her pledge ReAnimated held Dwarf for four months and just recently handed it over to GoodFriends. “I agree having castle for four months is pretty long so I have no regrets giving it to GoodFriends.”

Ryduz finds Forgotten Island exciting because of the lack of ability to teleport. So far he has gotten some pretty nifty drops: a sealed great sword and a sealed bow-gun which he is trying to sell.

Ryduz is especially excited about the upcoming episode 12. He thinks that either SoulofLineage (SOL) or GoodFriends will walk away with the castle, though Paldo has a good shot too.

KnightRyduz has a message for everyone, one that we should all heed.

Lastly, KnightRyduz would like to thank his brothers (KnightSpirit and Xzibit), FusionStorm, DV8313, GoodFriends, SoulofLineage and CrownofDestiny pledges and all of his friends. Seeya at 55, Ryduz!

Deathmaker Newest 52 Knight on Dep

When I first saw DEATHMAKER in Death Knight morph I thought it had to be an event leftover. When I had him cancel and remorph, I was stunned. Could it be? Had LC actually missed one for two levels?!

After convincing Death that I was indeed a reporter (I think he was just getting payback for me not believing he was 52!) He agreed to an interview.

Death hit 52 on December 15th. He is a strength knight, now actually a 22 strength knight, as he added both stat points to strength. He uses a +8 tsurugi and over –65 ac….wow!

He hunts Fire Valley and Dragon Valley Cave 5-6 with his brother. He only had four deaths from 49-52, all of them the fault of lag.

Though he doesn’t boss hunt much he does get some pretty nice drops, the best of which is a ROTC. “My hands were shaking,” he said; he must have been pretty excited when he saw that drop!

He’d like to give thanks to Kandie, Michelle and all his pledge members (pledge ‘Original’)

Gelatinous Cube (of Death) is reporting ( that the Gelatinous Cube (which many of you may remember from Ultima 1) is a seriously deadly monster.

It occupies the sewer system of Aden City (which is required before you can go to Omen's Tower) along with the standard sewer fare of Vakuuk and Ramia. However, this thing hurts. It has both a normal attack and a melee attack, however, similar to the Jack-0-Lantern boss of the Halloween event, it has the off chance to hit you for up to 500 HP.

Among these dead bodies are a knight with -62 AC and a level 47 player with 537 HP.

The good? news is that it appears to be tamable..

New Episode 12 monsters in action
Reported by (

The first siege of Aden castle will occur on the Korean Test Servers at 12/30/2002 9:48am, Korea Time. The reporter expected the king or at a minimum, the pledge, to be called Ken Lauhel, but instead the pledge is "Anti-King". Of course, this is Test Server, so mistakes are expected ;)

There is a new kind of Doppleganger for Aden, shown attacking the player morphed into an Orc Fighter, below.

Here is a band of bandits attacking a player. One is an archer, the others are melee fighters. They are pretty strong.

Elemental Sieges?
There were 4 of each of these items, but for space, I only put the water ones in. Is it possible that the owner of Aden can pick the element of the castle? We're just guessing here, but it looks like both the gate and the tower will have elemental resistance. :) We'll find out soon enough, Korean Test server gets Episode 12 in about 24 hours :)

12/23 - LoA server rollback
From Melantus on the forums (corrected):
We are doing a rollback of the LoA server right now, and rolling it back to about midnight central US time this morning.

A rollback means that we are reverting the data back to when it was saved at 12:00am this morning. Anything you did (deaths, getting items, getting adena) between now and 12:00am will be gone.

It's like going back in time. :)

Melantus didn't release specifics, but it was to correct an error with their server. Here's what CaptSturm said about NC's apology to LoA players:
We are going to do something over the next few days to make up for this situation.

Random spawns of Reindeer, Fox, Bear, and Boar will have a chance of dropping some neat items.

Now, this doesn't mean every fox you kill will drop a dragon slayer, but there should be some reasonable drops to offset the extreme inconvenience you've been subjected to.

I do offer my sincerest apologies for this and promise that we're working to prevent future issues.

'Episode In Lineage World', the First Synchronous Global Event by Lineage
Seoul, South Korea, December 13, 2002—NCsoft™ Corporation (CEO & President, Tack Jin Kim) announced the opening of a global event, "Episode In Lineage World", from today until the 15th of next month in an effort to discover uniquely diverse cyber cultures existing in Lineage service areas around the world through which Lineage gamers can come together to form common bonding.

The event offers Lineage gamers living in Lineage regular service areas, including Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong, with an exception of the United States, to make an online application for a touching episode or interesting story they have experienced, in the form of movie clips or manuscript. The prize-winning stories selected by each region will be translated into different languages for all gamers to enjoy. The contest is expected to add to the excitement and self-esteem of Lineage gamers worldwide, creating a new level of recognition of online games among the general public.

NCsoft CEO Tack Jin Kim said, "Online games will be recognized as a new cultural code in the digital era and will be able to make steady growth only when gamers learn to accept sound values by experiencing virtual functions of online games either directly or second-hand and overcoming vice functions at the same time." He also added, "I hope that this event becomes the cornerstone for building social infrastructure that enables the establishment of such cultural environment".

The announcement of the prize winning episode of "Episode In Lineage World" will be made on the 15th next month to be followed by its disclosure. NCsoft plans to give a 7-day European tour package to the World Prize winner, the best prize on the list, as well as other types of various free gifts, including Lineage character products and free user pass for Lineage. In addition, a souvenir will be given to all winners.

NCsoft's Online Lineage, Receives "Special Awards" at "GAME AWARDS 2001-2002" in Japan
[Oct. 29, 2002] NCsoft Corporation (President & CEO: Tack Jin Kim) announced that Lineage has been selected as the "Special Awards" recipient in the "GAME AWARDS 2001-2002" category at the award presentation ceremony for the "6th Annual CESA GAME AWARDS", which was held in Tokyo, Japan on the 28th.

The annual "CESA GAMES AWARDS" organized by the Japanese Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) is the most prestigious award for games in Japan. The authoritative award is comprised of two categories. The first is the "GAME AWARDS 2001-2002" category, which chooses among products released between January 1, 2001 and March 31, 2002 in Japan. The second is the "GAME AWARDS FUTURE" category which selects among unreleased games that were presented at the "TOKYO GAME SHOW 2002", which was held from Sept. 20, 2002 through the 22th. In order to make sure that winners are selected in the fairest manner possible based on criteria that include popularity as well as artistic intergrity, voting is first open to the general public followed by careful deliberation by the awards selection committee. The committee selects the finalists for the "Grand Award", "Awards for Excellence" and the "Special Awards."

This is the first time for a Korean game to be awarded the "CESA GAME AWARDS". Moreover, this recognition for the online game Lineage is all the more meaningful as it comes from Japan where video games have long been the mainstream in gaming. Reportedly, Lineage was selected as the "Special Awards" winner in part for its contribution to popularizing online gaming in Japan.

NCsoft President Tack Jin Kim said, "I am very happy that our online game has been presented with such a big prize in Japan. Earlier at the "TOKYO GAME SHOW 2002" I was once again impressed by the potential of the Japanese online game market when I saw the the great interest of the public, press and gaming community toward Lineage and Lineage II, etc. I now feel that this impression was not just our own, but that it has been validated by this recognition from Japanese industry."

After launching local commercial services in Sept. 1998, Lineage has since extended its reach to Japan, Taiwan, the U.S., and Hong Kong. Lineage is the worldfs foremost online game with 3.5 million monthly users and up to 300 thousand simultaneous users. Lineage is currently being serviced in Japan by NC Japan (CEO: Tsuguo Nobe), a joint company. After being launched in February of this year, it has since led the Japanese online game market with over 250 thousand accumulative accounts and over 15 thousand simultaneous users.

Chaotic Spells
NC Support has responded to a few players regarding casting chaotic spells and I thought it was important enough to post their answer here.

With the Nov. 6 update, we got an increased penalty with the casting of chaotic spells. For example, the publish announcement said that casting Curse: Poison was -300 lawful penalty.

However, some players have noticed that casting Curse: Poison makes you *fully chaotic*. Your lawful will jump from 32767 to a negative number, as if you PKed a character. This only happens if you successfully cast Curse: Poison on a player with a blue name in a non-Combat Zone. Here is NC's response:

"Presently, the Curse: Poison spell has been changed to a -300 alignment for a unsuccessful cast, or a successful cast in a combat zone, or a successful cast on a chaotic person. In fact you can defend yourself from an aggressor with only a -300 penalty as long as they attack first. But if you successfully cast it on a lawful character and YOU are the aggressor then you take the full chaotic penalty."

NC made sure that it was supposed to work that way with Lineage - Korea:

NC QA Team: "I just wanted to let you know that the penalty system is working as designed. So you can follow the information I sent you in the previous e-mail as a penalty guideline for the curse: poison spell."

Be careful!

Christmas Events
Posted by Melantus on the forums:
Holiday items will be made available for (added to the inventory of) characters created on all active accounts, on our External Test server as of 2pm CST 12/20/02.
All 3 of my Test characters had a 6 Shot Mega Bam Firework, a Multi-Colored Popper, 3 Sparklers and a Red Sock. If you double-click the Red Sock, it turns into a present! I got 1 Potion of Bravery and 2 Greater Haste from my 3 characters. :) Also, it's snowing in all of Aden and Orc Santa is available so you can buy your friends Christmas cards. Currently, this is just on test, but I'm pretty sure it will go live early next week. ^^ -a

Episode XII: Aden coming soon
(This is the official announcement and includes some info about the hometown system I accidentally didn't post :)
Seoul, South Korea, December 18, 2002—NCsoft™ Corporation said that the twelfth episode of the online game Lineage, ‘Aden’, will be released on the 26th this month. The release of new episode comes after seven months, following the release of Episode XI ‘Oren’ in May 2002. With the update of Aden, Lineage’s flagship operation system, ‘siege warfare’ is completed.

The creation of Aden Castle represents a superior ruling system over the existing six Lineage castles and gives rise to Lineage’s most powerful commander. ‘Aden’ introduces for the first time the re-distribution of power and wealth by social contribution through the ‘Hometown System’, creating a cyber community more focused on democratic system than combat-style power game.

In addition, Aden offers a new system of massive siege warfare and marriage system, an improvement of alliance among blood pledges and marriage previously made through words and trust between players. The introduction of a trade system between villages will also offer players new means of economy other than hunting.

“Siege warfare system in Lineage will be completed through Aden. It is our aim to raise Lineage to the level of perfection by developing various aspects of politics, economy and culture in balance” said Jang Joo-hyung, lead designer of Lineage. Aden will be released on two test servers on 26th and updated on 40 local regular servers by the end of next month. NCsoft will continue to develop new episodes after Aden.

Taeback Hits level 52 on Ken

Guess whos back? Back again? Its TaeBack, so tell a friend. It took me a while to write up this interview, but I finally found the time to do it. Here it goes.

As you know TaeBack is a STR knight on Ken Rauhel. He added two points into Strenght from 50-51. He packs a significant punch with his +9 Blessed Tsurugi. By now, Fire Valley is filled with people eager to get experiance. Fire Valley has been Tae's hunting area for a long time.

TaeBack's got into playing Lineage from a friend. He's been playing Lineage for about a year or so. He and his girlfriend, Waltz, both play Lineage together. He says he wouldn't have made it so far without her support.

TaeBack gained experience points at an average speed of 7% a day from 49-50. He did mention that level 51 too a long time, because he wasn't playing as much. Not to mention he got hacked twice.

He has only one lag death during the Halloween event. He was in Jack-o-Lantern morph using the costume and he was in Main Land cave hunting Grim Reapers. He saw a knight named xRenatox end to a bunch of Mops when he lagged. That was his only death at level 50.

TaeBack would like to thank all his friends, Sabrine, Bomelith, all Elves for the earth skinning him and of course Waltz!

12/19 - US Test Server Publish Announcement
The following has been published to the US Test Server on December 19th:

Holiday changes have been added to the US Lineage Test Server. These changes include music changes to the Lineage client (/music on to activate).

/music is actually a toggle. It doesn't matter what you type in after it -- if your music is on, /music turns it off. Most lineage commands are like that, I don't know why this on/off business lives on :) -a

Lineage 3D
The idea of making a new client for Lineage which lets us play with updated, 3D graphics has been mentioned as a side note here and there for about a year now. The basic idea is that, the game would not change at all, just the way you look at it. It would be like moving from a black and white 13" television to a HDTV color 60" projection television. All the TV shows are the same as before, it just looks alot cooler since you have a better TV.

Lineage - Korea has been hard at work and just posted ( a video of the demo of the Lineage 3D (also known as Lineage Forever) client-side upgrade that NC is showing off at KAMEX 2002 in Korea. Remember, same game as before - new TV ^^. mentioned that NC hasn't decided if there is going to be a 3D server for this or if the whole game will be upgraded for everyone.

There are no game sounds in the video, there is NC - Korea staff pointing out each action. If you don't speak Korean, the "no sound" version should be fine for you.

Episode 12: Aden is coming!
Lineage Playforum ( reports on the upcoming release of Episode 12: Aden.

NC says that they want to include more social features into Lineage. To this end, Pledge Alliance and Player Marriage systems will be introduced as a real system, more than just the spoken promises "we will be allies" which players use today.

In addition, the king of all castles - Aden - will be introduced with this episode. The King that owns Aden Castle will rule over all, as Aden Castle collects taxes from all the other castles.

NC expects to release Episode 12 to the Korean Test servers on Dec. 26 and release to live servers by the end of January 2003.

Zuluuu on Dep hits 52!

What has 18 Strength, 18 Constitution and a friendly attitude? Zuluuu, the newest 52 on Depardiu, of course! Zuluuu finally reached his long awaited goal of 52 on December 9th, 2002. Having started out as a constitution knight (his original knight was strength, but after seeing the report on Enhance he switched over) and adding two to his strength, Zuluuu has a nice number of hit points as well as a mean punch (or slash!). With his +9 Mystery Weapon he tears Fire Valley apart, showing everything that gets in his way just what a CrownOfDestiny knight is capable of.

In his entire career as Zuluuu he died six times: three to Phoenix when he was a little guy and once to lag. Though he died to Phoenix, he tends to stay away from boss hunting, not finding it stable enough.

Being from North Carolina the last week has been especially hard for him, coming close to several lag deaths due to the blizzards. Over 1.5 million houses in his area didn’t even have power at times!

He is looking forward to finally getting a crack at Forgotten Island; in the rush of keeping up with his leveling and then getting the safety 13% he hasn’t gotten a chance to go there yet.

When asked if he had ever dallied in Ken, Test or LoA he replied to me “If you want to take on the best [Dep] is the place to be.” Obviously Zuluuu has always had aspirations of becoming a big boy, and boy did those dreams come true!

On the subject of Lineage 2 he also had very little to say. He didn’t care if it was coming or not, “Why make Lineage 2 when you’re making the updates to Lineage 1 (Lineage Forever)?”

In suggestions to NC he had a large list. “This game has so much potential” he stated excitedly, sure that NC could make a killing if they got a few changes going:
  1. Alliance communications and alliance command need to be put in.
  2. Mail papers are too short; you can hardly put a whole thought in!
  3. Fix the broken tiles in Fire Valley!

He would like to thank his pledge CrownofDestiny for their support. He thanks everyone who rooted for him, actually! And special thanks to those who would give him braves; that was a big help!

Lineage 2 Compendium
We've been toying with the idea of expanding LC to cover L2C. We've actually had the domain name since January 2002. We're still not sure if we're going to go through with it, it's just in the idea phase, but we might as well throw it out to everyone and see if it takes.

So, here is the beginning. It's not complete, there is much to be done, and the game isn't even in the US yet. However, Lineage 2 Playforum has been posting some very cool screenshots that we wanted to mirror for everyone. So, check it out. Feedback, as always, is appreciated. :)

Your LC login will work for adding comments to L2C. I know some of you haven't logged into LC for months, so I created a Forgot Password function where you can look up your password by email address. :)

Demon Set
DESPERADOS on Ken server might be the luckiest guy in the world. We're just going to assume that since we haven't heard about it, he's the first to have them in the planet (I'm sure we're wrong, but let's pretend).

While hunting FI, he got Demon Gloves. This completes the Demon Set for Knight (the player on Ken that he sold it to). So far, we know that it is a -2 AC set bonus, significantly increased HP regeneration (not when overweight though) and it is very good for mage (Demon can cast faster than Atuba, but not quite Death Knight) and also for hitting it was decent (a little slower than Skeleton). We'll follow up with Knight (who now has the +5 Demon Set) and get more info.

The set is -2 AC (helm), -6 AC (armor), -3 AC (boots), -2 AC (gloves).

LoA updates
The following changes where made to the US LoA server on 12/5:
  1. Changed the Minion spawn times. It should spawn more frequently
  2. Added new armor set (uses existing elven leather helm and elven breastplate). Equipping all components gives: +1 DEX, +5% MR, -2 AC.
  3. Increased the Bless of Elm AC (from 2-3)
  4. Ginseng is added. It works as a potion of haste.
  5. Various merchants buy quest items. (bone chip, lumps of metal, Crooked Staff, Elindaire's Orb, Serpent Scales)
  6. Increased rough mithril drops in Elven Forest.
  7. Increased spawn of creatures in Hidden Valley, including the spawn of a lesser type of basilisk.
  8. Hell punishment time is one minute minimum

Many people compare the new Elven Set to BoE + ECM:
Bless of Elm + Elven Chain Mail = -8 AC, +1 DEX, Elves only
Elven Leather Helm + Elven Breast Plate (Elven Set) = -7 AC, +1 DEX, +5% MR, Elves/Mage only

Q & A with Melantus is here!

The guidelines to remember before starting:

  1. Post only two questions. There are bound to be repeats, and we are only taking about a dozen or so.
  2. The questions need to be directed toward the subject person and their duties. This isn’t the same as the Veteran Questions, since it is not to answer specific gameplay questions. It is a chance for you to interact with this particular person and ask them something about their duties / position / department.

The question thread will be closed on 12/11/02.

This session’s subject is the Lineage Community Coordinator, Melantus (a.k.a. Dwight Spaulding). Dwight is the Community Coordinator for Lineage in the US. He handles communication between the playerbase and the US Lineage team on a daily basis.

The Q & A thread where you should post your questions can be found at This location.

Four Items
I had four brief things to post, so I'll just combine them into one:

Dlrmsgur appears to be the first player to reach level 40 on the LoA server, only 45 hours after it's launch! Wow!

I talked to Skada briefly, he's the player on Ken who has been waiting for Talaas to come back from sabbatical so he could make the Sayha's Bow. Skada was in FI at the time, so I couldn't get a screenshot, but when I asked if it was worth all the trouble (he literally spent weeks globalling for the scales while he hunted Dark Elf/Griffon) he said "Yeah! It's better than my 8btsu!"

If you get any sealed Ancient items, unsealed Ancient items, Underwater Boots, new rings, Demon Gloves, DK Gloves or any other new surprises I skipped over on Dep/Ken, *please* email me so I have a record of them and can add them to the database. Don't just assume I have them and please help us out here ;)

Also, if you could just take a note of the color of the monster's names on FI and email me with a list of what you find so we can figure out their level and experiences, I would appreciate it too. Good luck hunting!

  • Pan and Ent Guardians in the Elven Forest can no longer be resurrected.
  • New Player zone monsters were rebalanced. Some of the monsters were slightly weakened and their ability to inflict poison has been reduced.
  • Siege interval has been extended from 2 days to 4 days. In accordance with this change, castle income has been decreased.
  • COI delay has been adjusted.
  • The pledge storage and individual storage have been split up on the storage keeper dialogue box.
  • Giant Soldier Ant and Giant Ant have been added to the polymorph list
  • Added the Forgotten Island, a high level hunting area. Enabled the ticket seller NPC 'Isvall' near the Heine wharf. Added a storage keeper inside the Orc Fortress.
  • Added weapon/armor enchanters to every castle hallway. Castle pledge members benefit from these NPCs without having to pay service charge.
  • Curse spell's attack range has been extended to 2 cells (spaces). In addition, alignment penalty has been lowered as much as the below table shows. 'Weapon Break' is now a chaotic spell and it has alignment penalty.
  • Alignment penalty:
    • "curse: poison" align= -300
    • "curse blind" align= -400
    • "weapon break" align= -600
    • "curse: paralyze" align= -2000
    • "darkness" align= -800
    • "weakness" align= -1000
    • "disease" align= -1000
  • Talass has been added to the Ivory Tower. He will craft the Bow of Sayha.

Korean Server observations
Lineage Playforum had a few observations about the recent updates to the live server.

First (, they noticed that many players were exploiting a bug with the /trade command and COI delay on the Korean Test server. If you type in /trade while wearing a COI, you come out of the COI with no delay at all. I'm not sure it's on the US servers (I'm guessing no), but this is posted to warn everyone about the potential abuse of this bug.

Second (, Orim now sells the Crystal Ball component of the Level 30 Mage quest even though no level 30 quests have gone live yet. Nice pricing, huh?

Sayha's Bow
A few Sayha's Bow have been dropping on the US Test server from monsters. Two people so far (Toy and MIK3) have gotten them and Coleeco says that they got them from Fire Archer.

Don't get too alarmed though, Melantus said it was just a test on the Lineage forums: "Bow of Sayha NPC (Talass in Ivory Tower) has been added, as well as the bow dropping from various monsters. This will allow for testing purposes, so that players can get the bow and test it before we publish.

The bow dropping in this special way is not permanent and is not the way it will be on Dep and Ken, or LoA. The quest NPC is how the bow will be obtained."

LoA vs. Ken/Dep

So, what's different about LoA?

Here are a list of differences so far. I'll try to make a section this week which I'll keep updated with this information.

  1. Experience loss upon death is roughly 5-6%.
  2. Soft AC is not so severe for elf, prince and mage.
  3. No global chat.
  4. Hell system: Getting too much of a PK count will sentence you for some time in Hell. Hell is not a new place to hunt. Generally, you will lose most of your items and a few levels if you have to go there. When you die and come back with 1 HP in the same place over and over again, you will understand.
  5. Weather - it rains and snows in LoA.
  6. Increased regeneration in Singing Island and Hidden Valley. Talking Island has increased regeneration too, but not as much.
  7. Potion delay tweaked: Reds have a shorter delay, Clears have a longer delay.
  8. The MP discount based on INT has been removed.
  9. Orc Fortress collects taxes from more sources.
  10. Items have been moved around in the stores. For example, you can only by zels and dais in Oren. Hector, the Iron maker, is in Werldern. (There are many similarly themed store changes)
  11. Helms of Magic are very rare drops. In fact, you can't buy one in a store.
  12. Low quality gems drop less often, while higher quality gems (like q-d) drop more often. Lower quality gems are sold for less (1/10th).
  13. Many other drop changes, some more, some less. It's not like test, it's like a different Ken/Dep.
  14. New bosses: Grim Reaper, Faruuk and Glarielle (elven caves)
  15. Some monsters have been moved around. Many SI/HV monsters are gone, while other new ones are in their place.
  16. New mage quest: Elindare's Staff is a +1 damage, +3 to hit, 2/2 staff which can drain mana, but cannot be enchanted. Getting it requires killing three mini-bosses: Baell Zaer (Talking Island dungeon), Minion (Elven Caves) and Serpent (Losus Island).
  17. New newbie items: Wizard's Training Cap, Skeleton Boots and four newbie rings.
  18. Dragons will be easier, but, they have lesser drops and spawn much less often.

False rumors about LoA server
  1. It's a newbie server. (No, not true, nothing easy about it.)
  2. Drops are worse than Dep/Ken. (Nope, drops are just different.)
  3. It will be wiped again. (No, only one wipe was planned, and it's done.)

If I missed any, post in the comments and I'll incorporate them.

NCsoft Spreads Thin, Gears Up for Game Portal
NCsoft, the nation's largest online game developer, is accelerating its 'post-Lineage strategy' with a series of new game services due out in coming months, heralding a major change in the domestic game market.

NCsoft began to recruit game testers for `Lineage2,' a follow-up of its hit online game Lineage, for a close beta test scheduled later this month, while rolling out 3D online game service `Shining Lore,' a game title it bought from Pantagram. The company is also pushing up effort to develop another Lineage follow-up, 'Lineage Forever,' for a service launch as early as in the first half of next year.

At the same time, it is making a major push into the game portal area, snatching up new games at board game servicing Web site 'Gameting,' a move that has long been speculated in the industry.

The leading game publisher, therefore, is seen making a sharp turn toward the so-called `department store strategy' based on a lineup of new game services from its heavy focus on 'Lineage.' In particular, the new launch by the industry major with a strong cash flow is expected to spark fierce competition with the existing online games.

"With the rating controversy now resolved, we expect our new business to get on track at full speed," said Kim Taek-jin, CEO of NCsoft. "We hope to firm up our position as No.1 online game publisher with a series of new services next year."

Having decided to have a close beta test later this month, NCsoft is currently working on a launching schedule of `Lineage2' it has kept in secret for some time. The new game will go through three to four times of close beta tests and a short period of an open test through early next year, the company said, before a rollout of a fee-based service.

With the release of the new game adopting 3D graphic, NCsoft now sees inevitable a fierce battle with popular 3D online role-playing games for a larger share of the market, and has begun to craft a major marketing campaign.

Another `Lineage' franchise, 'Lineage Forever,' is likely to hit the market in the first half of next year. The game based on 3D graphics will offer link with the existing Lineage service to prevent its users from breaking away during the transition to new services.

NCsoft is also gearing up for a game portal business in earnest, with its board game site 'Gameting(’ topping 20,000 in subscribers with such services as Go-stop and Omok.

In addition, the company recently bought a marketing and servicing license for Pantagram's hit online game 'Shining Lore' and kicked off a promotional campaign. It is further set to upgrade domestic service of `Ever Quest' to counter the penetration of foreign online games including Microsoft 'Asheron's Call2,' which is due out early next year.

Margon on Dep Hits 51!

On December first a new name entered the 50+ Hall of Fame: Margon, and if I do say so myself, no one deserved it more.

At level 51 he has an amount of HP that made me fall down (disclosed number, but WOW- Tae). From that one might gather that he is a Constitution knight, and one would be right. He even went so far as to add his stat point to Constitution, a hint that he plans to continue leveling!

With his faithful +8 Blessed Tsurugi and AC in the –60s Margon is often found terrorizing Fire Valley. But though he dedicates a lot to leveling he makes sure to put twice that into pledge business, often going on pledge hunts. “We rock Dragon Valley Cave 6!” He proudly stated during the interview.

Though this health-point filled 50+ could be called a boss himself he hardly ever boss hunts. “Boss hunt and take the risk” He told me. “It’s a low chance of a [good] drop.”

Not just Margon but all of Relentless is jumping with joy now that Forgotten Island is well in sight. “Since we do pledge hunts we have ideas on how to last a long time,” he stated…now if only they told me!

All of his thanks go to his pledge Relentless, a “pledge of trust.” He especially thanks the mages and elves who buffed him and everyone else who helped. Also he gives thanks to Pr0fessi0nal, missed but not forgotten.

Death Knight Gloves
Looks like finally the Death Knight set is attainable. So far, we hear of two people who have the Death Knight gloves (the only missing piece) on the US Test server: Neffer and WP. Both Protagonist and RangerX got us this screenshot.

It was dropped by a Forgotten Island Drake.

LoA Server News and Notes
The following pieces of information were found on the Lineage forums as posts by CaptSturm and other NC Staff.
  • On LoA the helms [of magic] will be extremely rare drops. The idea is to preserve the advantage of the Mages--and not have much magic use amoung the warrior (knight) class.
  • The dragons will be very rare--almost like an event--and will be designed so that a reasonable party can defeat them. Of course, the loot drops will correspond to the difficulty.
  • The Grim Reaper can turn people into zombies.
  • For the Elindare's Staff quest, the Minion is now wandering the first floor of Elven Caves, the Serpent is on Losus Island and Baell Zaer is on the first floor of Talking Island Dungeon.
