Episode 11 interview
We received an email titled "Lineage News letter[episode11 info.]" and in it was an interview (in Korean) with Ju-Hyung Jang, team lead for Lineage. What follows is a translation of this interview. Please note that we paraphrased and that this is an unofficial translation, so don't go complaining to NC if we at LC made a mistake. ^^
  1. When do you expect episode 11 to be published to the Korean Test servers?
    We are trying for end of May.
  2. Oren has been called the "mage update". Will it be mostly new spells?
    There will be major updates on high level magic attacks as well as new elven magics, which use the 4 elements that will be different from the mage spells. The elven spells will be geared towards making an elf and their pledgemates stronger, not necessarily attack spells.
  3. Will there be a new area and a new dungeon?
    There will be a huge ivory tower at the center of the new region. Right next to the tower will be the new town. There will also be new monsters, new items and an ice dungeon. The snow queen will be the new boss for this area.
  4. What is the Oren update in terms of the story of Lineage?
    Oren is Aden's center of magic. The Ivory Tower produced many of Aden's high level mages. All teleport NPCs are also from the Ivory Tower. Oren will be the coldest place in all of Aden and will debut snow-covered ground, even though it is right next to the Lair of Valakas.
  5. What is the Ivory Tower?
    The Ivory Tower has two faces. One is the lower part of the tower, which includes the town, a place where rare magic items are traded. The support for the new magics will be added here. The other face, the higher levels of the tower are a sort of dungeon. As you get higher in the tower, there will be monsters that will make you wonder if you're even in a tower any more.
  6. Can you tell us about any unique monsters?
    The dungeon boss, Snow Queen and the tower boss, Demon, will drop the new items.
  7. What kind of elven magics will be added?
    There are five levels (10, 20, 30, 40, 50). There will be basic magic that low level elves can learn. When they hit 30, they can try the third level of elven magic, but they will have to choose an element at that time. That element path will allow you to learn as many magic as you like, within that element. For example, fire magic is good for attacking, which is something a sword elf would use. Water magic will be good for spells like healing, wind magic will improve attributes like dexterity and earth magic will give you more protection. You choose the style yourself.
  8. When the update comes, sounds like the elven characters will get major advantages. Will there be balancing issues?
    Yes, there will be advantages to being an elf. However, it does not make them the strongest class. This will definitely help the situation where less players are playing elves. Winning a 1:1 does not mean your class is the strongest. Even if you aren't good at PvP, you could be good at hunting or having different kinds of fun. There will be other benefits, for example, for being prince or knight. We hope to bring fun for every class, while still focusing on balance issues.
  9. The Korean test server has new dungeons for newbies. What are the goals of these areas?
    You can use the teleport NPC to get into the dungeon. The dungeons seem different, but they are connected in the middle. In the middle hallway, the door is locked. You need to find the key to unlock this door by killing the boss. However, if you have your side's key (mages/princes), you still need the help of the other side (knights) to fully unlock the door. This way, no matter how hard you play, you can't visit the other side without cooperation from the other newbies.

if you are mature enough, you would know not to say that.. and tlak about something normal.. i do not agree with that 20 ignorant monitors comment, because "monitor" 01, 02, 03 and so on.. are legendary words that do not exisist in world of lineage.... also so is GameMaster...

I can't stand when people say things like, "But _____ isn't a bad word!"

Taken out of context, it's easy to argue your side, but I bet you were saying something like, "You are a _____", or in some other offensive manner, like "Suck my ______!" I'm sure that the monitor was justified. I moderate a HUGE board myself -- trying to argue your point like that, without *SPECIFIC* examples of what you said, are pointless. Not only are they pointless, but they also show that you've omitted some details of the story because you LIKELY know you're wrong.

Blah.

Great update! Anyone catch this? --> "There will be other benefits, for example, for being prince or knight." Wonder what they have up their sleeves? :)

Hmmm. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I'm just a whiner, but it seems to me that mages need more balancing. Elves already have a big advantage, and at least on US servers, there seems to be no shortage of elves.

Baing a mage, OTOH, kinda sucks. I suppose it's fun if you hit hi lvl and have summon, but lvl2 12-28 are brutally, mind-numbingly boring. The amount of pots you use to keep going is insane - you can't save money because everything goes to pots to keep hunting. Levelling takes forever because you die so often, and even if you're really careful, lag is enough to kill you regularly. Any mop that gives halfway decent experience is pretty tough. And drops from most monsters seem kind of pathetic.

From the standpoint of a lvl 21 mage, it looks like NCI is worried about nerfing mages. I understand that high level mages can be too powerful, but the middle ages for mages are insanely boring and difficult - it seems that unless you have an unhealthy and potentially obsessive approach to Lineage, you're unlikely to progress much as a mage.

Hmm.. What will a dex elf chose? Wind to improve dex? but they already have 24 dex with boe+dex spell..
earth for protection? He says fire is more a melee type, so probably not that.
And potions are used for healing, so not that either..
Argh choices choices..
Lets see what the spells are like then. Can't make a decision right now.

so if elves get elf magic do they still get to use the regular magics too?
if so i think elves will be pretty decent fighters.
if you put decent points into str and use pg and str magic, and fire magic to up ur str more i bet they get pretty high str.

they will also get more boost to dex too wiith wind spell so they hit stronger with bow too

Demons seem to be like mini-dragons. They in that event they had a large area attack - Which very few bosses actually have, except the dragons who tend to use it to wipe out everyone in one hit ;)

If you can read Korean or Chinese check out the Webzone site, and elf.cc24.cc and look at the latest news. They both have a couple of cool drawings on them.

class balancing is boring... you play a certain class cause its different and it presents a different challenge to the game. i have a mage, elf and knight. i play each one depending on the mood im in. but thats just me. and i think balancing classes TOO evenly would be boring.

Also for the people who think that elfs are the greatest class i dont think that is 100% correct, yes elfs will have an advantage after episode 11.. but also notice how the magic is bieng divided 10,20,30,40,50.

But i am pretty sure for those of you who do have other characters, Ottoman such as you who have a knight, is not wasted going, or should be going... because i do think NC will try very best in order to balance all classes...

If elf use bow str does not determine damage nc said that base str does not affectbow use its only the base damage and whatever bonus u get with the certain bow.
I like what i hear i have a lvl 46 dex elf so i might put him to use once again.

Str does help with bow damage - My level 48 elf hits for +3 damage more (11 str +5 from spell) after physical enchant:str spell. This is consistent with getting +1 damage every 2 str.
Maybe you don't get a damage BONUS with bows, i.e., if you go above 18 str, str doesn't give additional damage with bows. But I've tested the 11 str-16 str range, and yes, there is definitely a difference.

What a crock of sh-t. You guys at NC balanced the Prince/ss Class all these years by not doing a thing for them, right? No items, no new spells, no special potions. And I don't want to hear anyone says that sh-t, "Well, a Prince/ss has power because they can make a Blood Pledge..." because that couldn't be farther from the truth. The fact is, people in US Server don't help their leaders unless you're friends out of Lineage. People help in Korea, but not here, so they need to do something else to balance the Prince/ss Class. That sh-t doesn't fly in the US. When I ask people what I should do to get stronger, the typical response is "Get a castle". Sorry guys, that's just not likely. I would guess there's over 200 Prince/ss characters on each server, and there's only 5 castles. It just doesn't work out. Another sad fact is that people very rarely join Pledge based on what they think of the leader, but rather because they think "Oh, ________ is this Pledge, it must be good". For a Class that gets very little help from other players like they're supposed to, has horrible Armor Items to use (SOR, ECM, HOMR, may be good for other Classes but not for Prince/ss, who needs to rely on hand to hand combat to get by) and is forced (usually) to have a high Charisma, which is almost useless as a Stat. I just want a few things, an Armor Set for the Prince/ss Class only, A special potion of some sort, (That does something that is unrelated to Charisma) Level 3 Spells at 30, Level 4 Spells at 40, Level 50 spells at 50, and the ability to use more Items.(EPM, ES, Rapier, some sort of better helmet) Another thing that bothersme is the Crown. The only way to get one is to capture a Castle from the NPC owners, which rarely happens. On top of that, if someone does manage to get lucky and win an unowned Castle, the Cown drops 100% of the time if you are using it. It used to be this way because of the old Siege System, but things have changed now, and there nees to be another, easier way to get a Crown. Alot of you probably think that Prince/ss Clas should just be taken out of the game, because so few people use them. But the fact is that most people who use Prince/ss as a main are more passionate, and care for their Character more than anyone who uses another Class can.

I've been playing lineage since the ti days and princess has only 1 ONE item that was exclusivly added for them and it's ironic it's the crown. I help my princess lvl and str/dex her whenever i have sufficient mp and hunt at harder places with her. That's why i said it was a joke to balance all the classes since they would have to add tons to make the princess even mearly comparable.

I'll accept your flames people.

EDIT: i forgot the crappy rkc which it's usefullness is nothing compared to what other classes have

Aight....I'm tired of posting and saying how NC has totally forgotten the prince class. (this is like what..my 5th post regarding this topic?) Great, Ep 11 is coming out, so-called mage update. And you can see why NC has changed the kinda monsters a mage summon at different lvls in hope that mages can lvl their asses and to meet the new challenges. HOWEVER, elf is the class that seems to get the most benefit from this update....better spells to improve PvP combat..blah blah...whatever, I dun care. Just like what Vail has said (and we have said this many many times)
Why not just take prince out of the game? Since they are so worthless and crappy. Ya sure seiges are fun, but tell me wut kinda fun are we having now? There are 6 castles in all on each servers...that means, 6 castle owning pledges. And from what i've seen on depardieu (I'm pretty sure it's the same on every server) The people joined the castle owning pledges and 'stay strong' together...I remember when the former Giran Castle pledge broke up...people's excuses for leaving the pledge were 'Oh, blah blah blah is greedy'; 'Oh no one ever sieges, we need to fight' But look what's happening now? Majority of the ones that were once in 'that' pledge left and joined the 'new' pledge which has sucessfully taken Giran over and kept it well defended (why not...it's all the same ppl) Ok i'm getting off the topic but that's how Lineage is...Charisma is crap and I really dun see why NC kept on stressing upon str for knight, dex for elves, int for mages and cha for princes. There was never a balance in the game and there never will be.

HEY ppl ppl, just w8 it out for Lineage II. NC said that there would be 3 nations, and if each nation had 5 or 6 castles(and im sure that NC will add more than this amount, if only to please the user base) thats 18 castles. I know it's not that much, but u can also form nations, so it would be more likely that the price class will get help from pledge members, or mabe even allies only. I always hunt with my prince if i can, not only for the exp bonus, but just bcuz it's more fun that way, and we all get closer together. My pledge members and I are pretty close, and I dont see why a prince would recruit a member who is too selfish to help out their own leader. So go ahead, and call me an idiot.

with all those + the faster attack speed than knight, they might be pretty strong fighters. Only prob is their hp if they put 18 str... i duno o.O

Elbryan - Mel said str doesn't affect the dmg with your, and neither does the base dmg on the bow (only the dmg bonus's).
Tho' plenty of people have done tests and says str does make an effect... dunno who to believe.

I keep hoping episode 12 will be the prince update - After all it'll have the capital city of Aden, and the biggest castle.... I love my prince and think he's great, so I hope there'll be an update for him sometime....

Party bonus is bullshit. You get 5% extra and the highest lvl gets most of the exp. What's the point of being in a party when you get nothing out of it?
And chr... Why the hell would you need chr? So you're an 18 chr princess. You got 36 members. So what? you can't level with that shitty stats. Your members will mostly be knights since lineage is so unbalanced and they'll just blast every mop when they're on braves and their tsus.
At this pace of adding new shit for other classes besides prince/ss. Lineage will just become so unbalanced that prince/ss will never be the same as the other classes.

In addition... #35:
You do know that when lin2 comes out, there'll be more people playing since it 'appeals' more to the american market. And that 3 regions and kingdoms would be added 1 by 1 by publish and not all 18 castles will be in the game until it's well beyond the days of what we can imagine. That time will be near completion. And that day of completion would be 6 years? Since Lineage has already begun for 5 years and it doesn't even have Aden.

flyz, how exactly do u no all this?
Are u just gessing or do u hav some solid proof to back this up?
Also, i no the party bonus is crappy, but i hunt with em for fun, and for money. Cuz the way i see it, whenver i hunt with a mage, he can just heal me, and i dont hav to blow away all the money i just got from the hunt on some reds or oranges. And this way, whenever i die and lose items(which i do occasionally bcuz im not full lawful) they pick em up for me. And if they get some stuff that they dont really need but no i do, they give it to me. Same goes for me, if i happen to find some sb that my pledge member wants, i give it to him. I no i could prolly make a lil bit of money sellin it, but this way, we all help each out u no?
