Lately, I've been getting lots of virii in the web@lineagecompendium.com inbox. If you haven't already, please apply the latest security patches to your Microsoft Internet Explorer. Specifically:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-020.asp

This applies to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5. You can check for the latest patches at http://www.windowsupdate.com, some of these viruses spread without even warning you. Thanks.

addendum: By the way, you can't get this from visiting websites. You spread it by reading *your* email and your mail program automatically opening attachments and then sending itself to *my* email.

Darn newbies. They are the only one who runs whatchmenude.jpg.pif or such. Or old folks. Or non computer literate. But those reading these pages... should know their stuff... they are plain stupid.

Sorry for blowing off, I just had a day at work of dealing with virii. Finally decided just to shut off all executables on the way in, AND out, to keep the thing from spreading.

Bye all!

Guys calm down. The virus is the Klez virus and it is not just directed at this website alone. It has taken over 7%+ of the computers internationally and continues to spread. It is a simple email worm that comes through mail. It starts off by taking an address from your address book in outlook express let's say, and then it sends an email to that address with a random subject line and an attachment. If you open the attachment or with some email browsers you can get the virus by just reading the mail and not even opening the attachment. It then infects your computer, grabs another address and sends itself to that new address and just keeps spreading. This virus was not made for this website alone, every place is getting them because infected users have accessed their sites.

I have also gotten these emails but I am unaffected by it because OutLook Express 6.0 and Windows XP protect against these type of viruses. But just be careful when looking through your mail. This virus can disguise itself as a person you may know with a random subject line. So unless you know that person was going to send you something or the subject is something that you know of then it is alright to open it, otherwise keep them shut.

Let's try to keep the spreading the of Klez virus to a minimum. It has become the biggest virus now to infect computers. Take care.

Edit: You might wanna add this little tidbit to the news post Amer so people don't get confused or in a panic.

There is still a good chance that yes you could be infected by using those types of online programs. But hopefully given the time most companies have had to deal with this problem, they most likely have a fix on their browser email setups, so that shouldn't really be a problem. But be sure to update your virus protection software asap and just be cautious of what emails you open.

Use IE 6 (and Outlook 6), so far it seems to protect me from any virus.
Which is good cos my dad refuses to renew the virus definitions update for Norton AntiVirus >:(

If I weren't so in debt I'd do it myself :/

God I'am happy I use a Mac and FreeBSD and don't have to deal with this kind of mess. I have enough crap to deal with without having to worry about Microsoft virii as well.

I use no virus protection.. I have no firewalls, I use an open network with no server, and best of all I only have a NAT proxy.. meaning what? well I am screwed if a virus comes along that can infect windows 2k.. so far though.. all the ones I have tried have failed. (Yeah I know I like playing with fire, I used to remodel viruses, great way to get into programing, just don't make destructive ones)

I have this virus, and boy is it a pain in the arse. First filled up 1 folder then tried to fill my whole hard drive. Finally found a way to trap it in a tiny lil folder. But what a pain :P
