Player Stories

We are calling forth to all citizens of Lineage, to share their stories of adventure and travel throughout Aden! Once per week, we will post a topic for the stories. Players will be able to submit stories focused on this topic and based upon their in-game adventures. One story will be selected from the week’s submissions, and posted on our web site.

Only a story based upon the general topic will be posted for that week. The topic will be posted into the News section. Submissions for the stories should be sent to LineageStories@ncaustin.com (this is not case sensitive) and include your real name and a character name and server to which the story may be credited. All submissions become the property of NCsoft and may be used for advertising or promotional purposes. If your story is chosen, NCsoft staff may contact you for screenshots appropriate to the storyline.

This week's story topic - Dragon Valley! Send us your stories about interesting hunts or strange/funny happenings in Dragon Valley.

Um... Did everyone catch the sentence where you give them the right to use your story to sell Lineage without compensation? So, basically they are asking us to write their ad materials ... ROFL. I guess they figure if we are willing to pay for sub standard service we are also willing to write ad copy for free.

Irwin, are you telling me that you wouldn't want public exposure to your story? I think it would be great to have my own personal story as a way to get people to join the Lineage community. It'd be like being famous, without the fame, money, or women.

he probably did it because he could....if they don't want ppl to do it for the hell of it, they should make it either impossible to do, or make the offender go chaotic, it is not our fault that they are not filling in the holes in gameplay/coding that they have known about for a long time.

A lot of people banned tell something like that. They did something, got a warning from a monitor and said "sorry, I'll never do it again", but a while later they get banend anyway. What's up with that?

Sorry to hear that werewolf... Although I recently died cuz someone turned my skels while I was fighting a couple GSA. LOL...ouch. MarlboroRed, hmmmm, soon as I get my BB's I'll be hunting him.

And actually London, The fame from Ad Copy is not all too palettable... LOL especially when it comes without rights, payment or acknowldegement. If someone buys a story from me, thats different. We both know the stories will be cut up and very much unlike the original when they get used for advertising. Maybe if the people at NC actually played the game they could write there own stories... LOL, but the employees there are probably suspect of giving their work away as well.

If you have ever done sales and got cheated out of a commision you would understand what I am talking about.

Werewolf , they look at player history , nobody have ever met , on the boards or in game have given the complete story and NC won't talk. I wouldn't write any kinda of story for NC , I would write for Amer, or even some of the old AD&D sites, because I would be protected by copyright law.
NCsoft I don't trust for anything. There marketing is crap , I don't know who is in charge of marketing , but 1 disk on the back shelf of EB , or single page ad on EB site, doesn't cut. Every Online game that got updated has had alot more fanfare. Hell , LB could have went on Canadian channel that does the walkthroughs with game companies. ESPN has a gaming show, TNT has a gaming show, Fox has a Kids gaming show... Look if 3DO rookies can appear on those shows, then wanna be great king LB can appear there too. He could have done so much more, free 45 days for gaming mags, he could have bought cardboard and make cuts of Anime figures...
A friend of mine is working on a 3d Engine, he believes Lineage is making 50 cent on every dollar as profit, that is $7.50 per user, + some of us has 3 or 4 accounts pre-paid, that we rarely use (darn family). Most of .. the stuff that is coming out , has copyright and trademark that pre-date 2000. (1998 on some of that stuff). So what are we paying for? *shrugs*
I don't like LB as our captain. I think the Fire Update show have been done before Hiene update, the MP3 Music ability , the updates itself was great. Now they made Hiene useless , no pets underwater, Even with 60% to 70% MR , 3 Seadancers make you teleport. Why bother? Skt cave floor 4 is better money, the fire area is much better. *Shrugs*
If you gonna write something, put it someplace where , people are very happy to read your work (no matter how good or bad it is). Fanfiction.com, Amer's site, hell even give it to Warcry (though 2 people will see), if you write something , don't bug over a specific topic , and don't even give your hardwork to others for free, unless you know for sure , they won't use it for profit. Even if you can write a short story , with near perfect spelling in 5 minutes, NCsoft isn't worth your time.

I can't believe that NCI does that; you do something to someone else in-game, which isn't bad cause it's a game, they take real, hard-earned money. I find this totally and completely moronic. Another thing I can't believe is that they consor 'crap'and 'poop' in-game. Now, I'm not comepletely 100% sure, but does it not say on the CD "Rated T for TEEN"? I've heard them on Nickelodeon saying 'poop' and 'crap', and at MOST that's rated 'TVY7'. I don't know, just someting I figured out... Anyway, I hope NCI DOES read this. They need to get into gear, get their crosshairs off the fast, soft money and go for the long-term, hard money. I don't know much about buisness, but if they intend on being around for the next 10 years, they should go for the more, long-term money. Like I said, I'm not a buisness genius, but I DO have common sense...

Hmmmzzz...I was a good player of lineage in old old server ...and i wanted to return to that world that once got me bad marks =P
I guess after hearing this, i dun feel like playing anymore...
Oh yah..just to say something...NC's service is bad because the US server is not making as much money as the other two servers (korean + HK) ...i think! Well...anyways, They dont' give because their interest is not really in US. Let's just say they want to make the US server an "alternate" of the other two. A more controlled one, so that they dun have to put up as much while making ez money. True NCI put a lot of effort into this, but what's the use of listening to complaints now, in a server which barely makes money (to them) when Lin 2 is coming out ...in summer? (beta) Hmmm...i think i'll try that instead. Since it is a new game, the service would be better to attract ppl. You want good service? Live in the world of Lineage 2 like Zeus/Jupiter, Buddha, God, bla bla bla. Good luck to the ones in Lin 1

that gives me no more confidence about how much they care about the game... it goes to show that they know nothing about the game, if they cannot make up a reasonable story about hunting DV themselves to promote their own game... u know what i'm saying?

Irwin, you say that you won't receive rights, payment or acknowldegement. It's not like they're FORCING you to write anything. It's something to do if you WANT to. I don't really care if they credit me or don't credit me. I would be fine with the fact that MY personal story was put up on their site.

If you don't want them using YOUR story, then don't write anything!

I thought they were just trying to get a community spirit going and get people to do stuff for Lin out of the game. Admitedly might seem naive but if you look around loads of community sites do story sections. I reckon all that'll happen is they'll put the best story up on the main page like that Pic of year and Comic book link they do.
The small print they put in is just one of those legal disclaimers you see everywhere. It's not important if they make money out of your story, cos your meant to be writing it cos you want to and for other people to appreaciate.

FYI its not a community they are trying to build, they are just getting quotes they can use in ads. Thats all there is to it. I wasn't gonna read this but when I saw Lost post I read all of it. Thats enough story for me. NC doesn't care about the US Market, at least as far as lineage goes. When lord british's poor excuse for a game (Come on it won't work) comes out, they will market the hell out of it. But as for lineage, we are just a nice chunky cash crop. They are making at least 100k profit a month (US server only, together its at least 2mil+ a month..), and in the gaming world 100k goes a long way. Now they don't see the big picture. Truth is they think LB's name goes farther than marketing can, and 'his' game is going to go a long way. Unfortunatly NC is going to lose their ass in it. And who wants 3d games anyway? I don't like 3d. 2d all the way.

Unfortunatly NC has too bites at the community apple. More times than I recall , people have step up to bat for NC , and NC treats them like dirt. It was clear when they had that major problem with lag that we are an afterthought.
London they are asking us , they posted it on thier board. It might not be an individual request but it is a request. Its basically like those GNU or Open source projects , asking for submissions or stories about thier systems , then turning around and selling them. They wonder why nobody bothers with Bug reports, and they wonder why they lose customs.
Several of the new forthcoming Online games have pre-sales of 10k. Why do you think they are getting the Unreal engine? Its to compete, fast and dirty.
Personally , when I see , "We have Ultima 9 crew working on blah blah" it gives to me cold shivers. What I think is going to happen is they are going to goto 3d terrain and houses, with 2d sprites, and I am willing to bet that they won't be work together.

Need help to figure this out...
I am an elf, ST 14 DEX 14 CON 14 WIS 12 CHA 9 INT 12, I have an x-bow, Now what I am having dificulty with. I want to know what a Scroll Of Enchant Weapon will do to my x-bow. If I should increase it or should I concentrate on increasing my AC. Any suggestions would greatly help. Also the X-Bow does 2-3 damage when I increase it will it be 3-4 or 2-4... I am cluless. Again any help would be great. THX
