off topic: our first ban

Kind of sad, but I had to ban my first person today. :( I hope its my last. Anyhow, just to entertain you, I give you some background:

At the end I say: I hoped you liked my story. I feel guilty though. Do you think I am overreacting, or am I justified?

So what do you think? Was I too harsh?

I think so too. Really, I don't know him, but I have seen him spam on the in-game chat. I dunno amer, its your site and your pc thats hosting it, so its up to you.

I don't know him either - But he sounds like a fool who doesn't realise when he is in the wrong (you appologised to him once, when did he ever do that?). Plus, Amer, it's your site, you get to do what you want ;)

Well I don't care if he's a fool or not, the point is: If you want to try to join a website you don't make fun of the host! That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Oh, and I can trust your judgement Amer, you wouldn't ban someone for no reason. -SirDarius

Amer, you have all the right to ban him from your website. As you said and I see it as well, this site is not mearly a publication of information about our favorite game but also an extension of your hospitality. For all of us who visit your site daily and the numerous people who stop by to take a look, thank you Amer and gang for allowing us to share the information you provide. Nah, I can't stand him either. Heh, I saw my name in your rant! Anyway, you should have changed the "banned" screen so that it says to scroll down really far, then have a link at the bottom that he has to click on, then another, and another. Have like 20 links that FINALLY lead to screen with BIG scrolling letters that say "You're BANNED! Hahahahaha"

Hmm Caspo is a jerk but im against the ban. I don't really consider this to be "my" site. It's everyone's site. Except by everyone I mean the people who contribute to Lineage. It's not for the grief players. If I owned a coffee shop, I do it so I can serve everyone coffee and so everyone can hang out. But if someone comes in and pisses on my floor every day for a week, I'm not going to let them in next time. I'm tired of cleaning up pee!

Good one Amer.. He seems he doesnt know anything about your site anyway.. In his 2nd msg i think he says other sites suck. Well i agree that alot of the other sites suck, but then he continues and says Warcry gets information from other sites and from NC's site.. Now he really doesnt know what you guys doing here. You were the ones who started tranlating news right? He just wants the free account I reckon.. I like both Compendium and Warcry. Why? because you guys doing great job. Trying to bring news from anywhere to keep us updated. So thank you Amer, Cab, Spatz, and others who help these sites. Ok i talk too much. byo byo..

Well man, I think you're entirely in the right with how you handled it. I have no time for people who call names and insult because a person doesn't agree or doesn't want their help. And you've got nothing to feel bad about with it. Some mutt wants to make a pain of himself, he shouldn't be allowed to in society, and this ia a part of that.

If he really wanted to be helpful, he'd have to prove it in the game. It's nice that he's thinking he wants to help, but his actions beg to differ. During Giran siege, he kept on hitting me to steal my MP when I was just standing around, watching. Doesn't show he really wants to be helpful or friendly. = And it looks like I'm not the only one who doesn't think too highly of this guy. It was wise of you to be cautious, Amer. The ban...I'd like to think it as a protective step. If he's REALLY serious about helping, he can still e-mail/PM you. Of course, if he resorts to flaming and bad-mouthing again...then it only prooves he is worthy of a ban.

Ugly situation but well handled. The fact that you at least feel some remorse over banning him is indicitive of your character, the fact that he persists in being a jerk is reflective of his. It sucks having to deal with idgits, but it comes with the turf you're on. Well handled.
