Less people are playing more..

And now for my number crunching with the new IR report numbers. As before, this should not be used to make any interpretation of the financials or business viability of NC. Their profit numbers are a totally different story. :) These numbers are just to see how many people are playing the game.

This time, these US numbers *do* include LoA server. If you recall in February, I expected the LoA numbers to significantly increase the total monthly subscriber base, but it didn't exactly do that :(

  1. Good ^^: Between Dec 2002 and Mar 2003, the Lineage World has gained 2 servers (1 in Korea and our LoA).
  2. Bad T_T: Total Global Mar 2003 Monthly Access is 2,713,413 down from 2,875,853 in Sep 2002 (down 6.0%). This loss is despite the growth of the Hong Kong customers (+17.7%) and the Japanese customers (+14.3%).
  3. Neutral o.o: There are 1 million less monthly subscribers in Mar 2003 vs Sep 2001 in Korea. However, registered IPs have been steadily on the rise (increase of ~30,000) since Dec 2002.
  4. Good ^^: On the US servers, the ratio of daily access to monthly access has gone up from 0.506 to 0.592 (but the total number of subscribers has gone down). This means that people are playing more on average.
  5. Bad T_T: Based on these numbers, 0.344% of NC's Lineage customers play on US servers, down from 0.346% in December 2002. Insignificant change, really.

Conclusion: On a scale of 0-10, where 10 is "Looks like Lineage is going to be the only game in the world!" and 0 is "Bail! Bail!", I would rate this report as 5.

What they dont tell you is the decrease is due to the unfair bannings that took place in the US.

#2: That is not part of this report, this is the March 2003 report. The bannings took place in May, two months later.

The US accounts for less then 1% of the entire lineage user base? No wonder NC-Korea doesn't care about us, we're nothing but a fly on the wall.

If only they'd just hurry up with the graphical and interface updates...Then Lineage might have a chance at success in the U.S. But they're so god damn slow with everything...How hard is it to copy items and give them a new color, and call it new equipment?

Wow, I never realized that the US didnt even make up 1% of NC's user base. Now I have some understanding as to why we never get listend to. I am actualy amazed that we even got LoA now! For a company to make a unique server with customized (to an extent) content just for less then 1% of their customers, amazing.

What we need is a larger advertising push. Start putting game cds [And by game cds, I mean the GOOD ones, like the Heine Update CD which had a small how-to guide and reference booklet with it, not the crap Giran and Weldern Update CDs.] with a free week or two of the service in popular gaming magazines like Electronic Gaming Monthly or GamePro. Get pop-up banners rolling around the internet. Maybe go as far as put a tiny 15-20 second global commercial on the air as they did with EQ:OA. We need ADVERTISING the most.

For some reason, the US server administration is not handing out events like candy (like they do on Korean servers). Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Also, the US server admins are quite unnecessarily strict on enforcing quite unnecessary rules. On Korean servers, for example, a player can tell a GM to the face "deli jung," meaning "This character I'm playing on is not mine; I'm playing someone else's character."

Actually I quit today because I dont like this Alex Guy from NC bullcrapping me all the time. I lag death again today lvling down and sent him an email and he told me it was my ISP. But when i contacted my ISP they looked at the records and said that it was Lineage ISP. Now honestly there is no reason for my ISP to lie about it as they admit to d/c and lag when it happens. So with this information I have deceided to finally let go and move along. Lineage is truly the best game in the world but the staff is something to be desired. Please don't ask me for my items as they will be blown and the ones that go will be given away to my ingame good friends

We will see Lineage numbers decreasing monthly...I predict in 6 months from now. Lineage will loose 20% of its usa users. Lineage gamers will be moving onto new releases of mmogs. I dont see lineage having 4 servers 1 year from now that are affective. The remaining Lineage players will face yet another large exodus at the time when Lin 2 releases prolly in early 2004 or second quarter 2004. This is not a negative response to Lineage. This is my prediction based on my familiarity of the Lineage gaming community.

NC needs some serious advertising skills
our numbers r staying steady but slowly decreasing

I used to blame NC for lagging all the time
then I found out
it was my ISP in the end
yet I call my ISP
they say nothing is wrong

always best to see your ping on various sites and lin server
sure shows u alot of results

Every online game has lag problems. We can only hope that the game is designed to make lag bearable.

in comparison to how all the other servers are doing i'd say it's closer to 2/10 o.o

US servers can't afford to lose any customers really... even if it's a 0.0xx% cos we essentially have none to start with... during peak hours we probably only have 500 peeps which is 10% of koreas peak hours (5000 peeps) and only 25% of the tiny city of hong kong (2000)...

That the point amer, for example in shadowbane, lagging was just fine, didnt matter much, just a minor annoyance, lag in Lineage and I'm dead if I'm fighting or close to agressive mops. Really stupid.
Gamedeisgn is the solution to lag, it won't go away. Lineage is NOT designed to make lag bareable. At least they realized that and made xp-loss CLOSER to reasonable.

I don't understand why you say "that the point". I know that's the point, I just made it by writing it quite literally. :-P

Always trying to pick fights.. :)

edit; Shadowbane.. lol.. great time to compare Lineage to Shadowbane. I'll take Lineage for this case :)

I remeber when NC used to advratise, they would show people 1v1 dragons. :P They need to show real stuff, like pictures from the IGG siege on ken, or first Aden siege, bunch of people killing Demon etc.

It's very true though, I've noticed. When you lag in other MMORPGs, it's not life-threatening like it is in Lineage.

I've seen NC advertise Lineage in magazines before but it isn't very appealing. The most effective route is T.V advertising but ofcourse that is very costly.

I started Lineage cause it came on a CD with a Computer Magizine subscription. So that method works. Of course that way you only get hardcore geeks( yeah I admit it, but i make more money than most people who ever called me a geek!).

TV ads arethe way to reach everyday Americans. Everyone is complaining about how much TV we watch, well they need to take advantage of it.

just my 2cents worth.

kinda interesting to note that the revenue from pc rooms as a % of total sales for NC's revenue mix show a steady declining trend in Korea. Guess those 30,000+ pc rooms are either decreasing as a whole, or the % of pc rooms in korea that carry lineage are decreasing. Let's hope the full launch of China's Sina-sponsored lineage compensates for the global mix of players that they seem to be losing in korea. From what we've heard from sina's management, despite the departure of long-time CEO Daniel Mao, this should still push the game forward, with the only competition from alternative online game provider netease, which is the only other main all-China portal competition for content and online games.

More Players may leave in June because;

Ragnarok will close it's beta and become a paid service June 1st 16:00pst.
The California based Chaos Server was hosting 10,000 players smoothly.
Once the Asian IP's are locked out, and the population is reduced to
paying $12/mo customers only, the Servers will be completely lag free.

There will be 3 USA based Servers, 2 regular, and 1 "test". You can
move the same character between either of the 2 servers, so if one is
down or lagged, you can level on the other, but you can't cross server
chat... pretty cool, huh?!

Diablo-2 will come out with it's long awaited Patch any week now.
I know many players who would prefer ladder climbing there, with
all the new game dynamics, skill and attribute rebalancing, and
items and add-ons being added free to D2-LOD in this major patch.

Lineage in USA is so screwed...

ragnarok sux in my eyes, the beta sux, i played it. for me, a game must have 70% gameplay minimum, the graphic is like 30%.that means i rather prefer to hit like i want then have a wonderfull rendered model( which dies anyway, kakaka). and lag free? come on man, we all know there must be a lag unless u sit in the same room as the rag. server! i will stay in lineage 1, whatever comes out. maybe i will try lineage 2, but that need a super uber comp. O.o

I dont know either, i been playing lineage for 2 years now, it seems that it has just been going downhill the past 6 months or so (ammount that play), I am also considering quitting, it just isnt as fun as it used to be, and the small ammount of people that play make it boring. Lately i have only been seeing around 300-400 people on at once.
