December event

I want to have a giveaway for our December event. I want to do Ken server on Sunday at about 8pm Eastern, and Dep server soon after. Basically, I have a bunch of items ranging from +0 boots to hom:p and I want to have some kind of contest in game to distribute them, along with the free month.

The question is what contest should I do. I was thinking of running around TI giving items to mops, but that could easily be screwed up by people in COI or people following me, or 100 other ways. Then I thought of doing something like a game show, where people sign up with me and then we pick 5 of them at a time (like Who Wants to Be A Millionare? or Price is Right) and ask them questions. But what kind of questions would I ask?

So I'm looking for ideas. Unless a better one idea up, I'm going to just do a random lottery (entry fee 400 adena) on TI on Sunday, 12/9 on Ken server at 8pm, and one on Dep server either Monday or next Sunday, depending on the availability of people that agreed to help me.

Well my idea is based on what kind of things u giving away, less or more expensive, so if u could repost this and also write in the highest and lowest worth of your items that ure actually giving away :P, thx~

There are quite a few items, I'll get an exact list tonight, but it consists of various quantities of +0 boots, scale mail, +0 leather boots, dex, v-t, slow, g-heal, hom:p, berserker axe, fauchard, hom:h -- and there's also the free month. I was thinking one person would get heads on a coin for Dep, one person would get tails on a coin for Ken, I'd flip it, and winner got a free month.

So the range is 1k (boots) to 9k (hom:p) -- and that's just the resale. New boots are 2k and new hom:p is around 18k.

Flipping a coin.... hmmm am i wrong but lets say u have 200+ contesters on that... wouldnt it take some time? i know many that would like a free month, espacially me ^^ but... let em put mail paper on the ground and u run thru em all and the first paper u pick up, the winning name should get the free month ^^

When I quit Lineage for good, I've been planning to have a giveaway of items via a trivia of a sort, in which I'll ask general knowledge questions and have a friend or two give out the prize to first person to answer the question correctly (can easily be checked in chat window). I was thinking of starting out with easier questions for less adena, and then increase difficulty and increase prize amount. This would probably be done on TI and I'd probably sell my stuff and give out lots and lots of money prizes, to give more people a chance, rather than few expensive items.

Just an idea. And no, I'm not quitting yet.

Andy that idea is the most used one when u give away items, of course someone lags and they do answer first but due to lag they get like 4th place or sumthin

I have done a few give away events before, the way I did was to sell "tickets" (mailpapers with a number) then I had a draw, this is the most fair way (no one can cheat) and the easiest way, cause when I did it the last time there were like 100 players and to have some kind of trivia is not possible...

Bloodlust - one person would win the Heads side from Ken, and one person would win the Tails side on Dep. So it would be one coin flip.

But we're detracting from the original point - should I do a trivia? A lottery? A combination? Many different things? Like "who can go and get me 10 furs first"?

I've got the time and the will, so please, by all means suggest some better ideas. To be honest though I haven't seen ANY giveaways in a very very long time, so, although it might not sound appealing to high lvl players, I'm sure newbies wouldn't mind having a shot at over a couple of mil.

Also, regarding the lag, as questions get harder and prize money grows, I'm sure there will be plenty of time to answer before anyone else comes up with the right one.

Well Amer what if whole server says "HEADS!" or whole server says "Tails!" or half of server says "tails!" and so on, it would be so weird to keep track of em all 0.o, Andy - Many high lvl players, often someone like Amer, knows alot of lineage, even tho u could ocme up witha rly hard question, someone would figure the answer out in 1~3 seconds, ive seen alot of giveouts, but i never participated cuz i see how fast everyone answers to these questions, it seems they read lineage info like bedtime stories...

Just have a general melee inside the SKT duel/training area like a tarvern brawl or something. when ppl had enough wasting money on pots for prizes that can possible be lower value than the $$ wasted, then ppl would stop going again. the last let say ten ppl remaining can recieve the prize. This would also allow newbies to take part in a thrilling event without losing exp/items in the duelling area. And if a newbie got lucky, he'd get completely ignored and could get a prize =)

Yeah, there are the brainy ones, but it is rather hard to think of a contest that will give everyone an equal chance (remember knights morphed into skel axemen on brave/haste taking out bunnies?)
Some people hide somewhere in Aden and then global that first person to find them gets a certain prize. There are some giveaways in which people have to perform certain tasks ("who can go and get me 10 furs first"?)... Also some people hide mail papers, which specify the prize and directions, in towns or on monsters and when someone finds em, (s)he has to whisper the host and present letter to claim (similar to what Lost did recently)... Mmmm... There are duels and brawls, but those are far from fair to newbies.
Will think of more later.

I like the Hide and Seek idea. So, so far there are three contests: Hide and Seek, Duels, Trivia (both Lineage related and not).

Also, the coin flip thing - I'd pick one representative from Dep and one from Ken. The coin flip would tell me which of the two. ^^

amer.. why don't you go coi.. and then go around giving items to monsters in ti dungeon, dv caves and somewhere where people go often.. and then just put a mail in one of the monsters saying some secret messsage... then give someone on DEP (a friend) the message.. and on ken do it urself.. but put like in a place where people don't go often... and dont' reveal that place.. an in mail put - email lineage compendium with this message.. the first email you recieve.. the guy will win... just an idea..

about the "questions about lineag guide" bloodlust posted it b4.. do questions that are not from lineage.. like ask.. which president died on XXXX.../everyone runs to get their world history book... or ask something about some movie.. or about some other computer.. or some kind of a long math problme.. i don't think any real brain people play lineage.

Ooh I just had another idea. ^^
When I was in college, one of the freshmen orientation things they did was "Playfair" - where you do weird things to meet each other. We could do stuff like that, like "Find someone in a different class than you who has an elven weapon or armor", and then like a pair of people, one knight and one mage with an Elven Shield could each get a prize. It would be a good way to meet new friends. ^^

Hehe. Just please bear in mind that general knowledge questions are not always just that. Standard knowledge for an American is not always the same for a Canadian, or someone of non-North American decent. So questions about American Presidents or such might not be exactly fair to those of us who are non American (GO LEAFS GO!!). Just a suggestion to bear in mind if you do decide to go this route. But this idea sounds great, I look forward to participating on the Dep server :)

I agree with ImYurHuklBry, but instead of excluding historical questions altogether, you might ask questions from each (major) country's history, to ensure that everyone around the world has equal chance. I stated right away that they should be general knowledge questions, NOT Lineage related.
Putting mail papers in towns is out, first person to find one will raid all other towns.
Duels will only work if newbies are left out.
I say... whoever killed Edgy the most gets the most prizes... I WILL shove your... up your own... ya little sick sheep raping turd...

Well, I love the trivia idea, since I'm a trivia fruit. Not that I'd keep an item I got, everything goes to newbs...But the hunting has been done to death, the dueling has been done to death, at least it's something interesting. =) Ahhh well, whatever you'd like to do is cool with me amer, it's just a good idea.

How about if we awarded some prizes to people that came up with constructive ways to improve the game (eg. an outboard motor for the gludio-TI ship, a turnstyle type sytem for entering south waste land and a pop limit, the introduction of a "stupidity should be painful scroll" where the user's items erode +1 ac for every time they try to sell summon for 1 mill[still working out the kinks on this one], or the ever-popular and long-awaited introduction of the Ring of Lag Control)? Just a suggestion to toss in with all the others.

I did the hide and seek thing, it cost more than it was worth about 25k ~ 40k. There are a huge number of vets that ruin, out of 250 prizes given out in the first day about 40 went to vets , who b-tele into Hv and Si. There was also the problem of newbies getting many scrolls, one guy got 12 scrolls (but only took 5 items gave the rest to other newbies).
Trivia sounds like the best bet, this is how I would handle it
Dep server
Each town I have 2 Host, each town would use the honor system (TI newbies only , WB Mid lvls , Gludio Md lvls , Skt newbies only, Giran anyone , OT orcs only, Kent anyone, Hiene anyone)
Then I would download some of the high lvl AI IRC bots (those World questions, Game questions and fun questions) Then I would do this
Player 1 wagers how many questions Player 2 can answer , if Player 2 passes then Player 1 has to answer that many questions. Each right answer gives 1 point, the points would be used to get prizes. Give them a range , say
0 to 5 points = Carrot
5 to 10 points = Hug from Lord British

Give them a set amount of time, maybe allow them to spend points to get hints , or ask a friend or something. Yeah I know Pledge and whisper people can help them but if it by region its less likely to get help.

Contact Soulayslum on Dep Amer and I will help you. I thinks it a great idea. And please no duels , that is lame.

One thing you might try to do that I wanted to do but didn't know I could is release mop in Hv and Si , the koreans left lvl 30+ dogs there and nothing happen to them. But you could find a mage to tame something a gremlin , or something release it with a prize. Haste it up.
Another idea of sirdarius is to get some pine wands and make a ton of monsters (using Sosc ghast , COI ) and have a huge party.

If Amer kisses Mel and company Ass like Cabbie then he will get special treatment, like a "Personal Home visit of IK and friends" (Must be over the age of 18 , or have a credit card.) I think that Amer is doing a great service to the community though and should get a cookie and some candy for Christmas.
