Only in Tolkein are all dragons enemies of humans. In a great deal of fantasy literature dragons are not bothered with humans, and try to avoid them, or even friendly to them. A lot of books treat dragons as Elder-Type wise old beings etc. Even in Arthurian Legend merlin could summon the dragon to do his bidding, and Dragons were the original inhabitants of Avalon, the final resting home of kings and wizards.
