ISP Maintenance

This appears to be a regular Monday early morning thing, and just killed me. T_T

The ISP location serving Lineage US servers will be conducting maintenance on Monday, March 3rd between 2:00 AM CST and 6:00 AM CST. During this time frame, there will be a minimum of two complete disconnects of service for the Lineage servers, with the possibility of additional disconnects. We will be providing in-game warning shortly prior to the disconnects, however as we do not know specifically what those exact times will be, we urge that special caution be taken by customers playing at this time. Customers playing on the servers during this time are urged to keep a close eye on the chat window to watch for messages about pending server disconnects.

this is bullshit on ken server monitor03 didnt remind us early enough, he said he was looking at new schedule for maintenance time so he couldnt warn us early enough! wot kidna crap is this , a reminder my @$$!

I use to pay attention in almost everything that happen into the general chat window, but i didnt saw any warning, and I think that all people that were playing didnt.
I was in giran city when this happened, (Im lucky) but I saw many ppl who wanted his exp. back or roll back the server.
I want another DK/DE event now!! ^_^

a little late on the warning lc, but it's not your job

nc's website had a warning, but who goes there? besides, it says they would give warning in game shortly prior to the disconnects, which they didn't (at least on dep server).. i'm not pissed, and i didn't die anyway, but someone should get fired for that if they let it happen again, i'm not joking

if this is a weekly isp thing, they should probably get a new isp. i'm saying this despite the awesome under-50ms avg pings i get. any network that requires maintenance is no good, especially one that has no redundancy.. i don't think i'm being too unforgiving about the maintenance thing, because i'm pretty sure networks don't need to use hard disks, except for logging (logging transferred data is evil, imho -- btw, did you know ALL of your conversations in lin are logged by nc? i don't believe they're ever deleted either, just archived).. hard disks could use a defrag every now and then, i'm not sure about all types and file systems though. i don't know of any other legitimate reason for maintenance... as for redundancy, all networks should have it, because we pay monthly fees, and natural disasters could cut lines and stuff

that being said, nc has gotten much better about connectivity warnings than they were in the past, and the isp is not that bad.. but this type of stuff is not cool for mmorpg�s which rely so heavily on reliable connections

I never knew about this maintenance and of course, I died from a bloody ogre. Argh...

I do not understand why they can not put those warnings up before the game starts like they do the update notices. I mean, come on, do we have to check out all of the sites that list this info before we play a game. Esp. when this was an unscheduled maintenance. You should have posted at least a week before if you were not going to do this on the normal wednesday maintenance.
Very poor operational announcement mechanism in place. We are your user base, keep us informed in a real way.

Man, we would be so fired if we did that crap in my data center. Our users would be howling at us and the pres. would come on down to discuss the loss of productivity and $$$ that little thing caused....

I did not get a warning on LoA Server. I got completely disconnected at around 4AM CST. I also had 2 very horrible lag times (with no disconnect) during 3AM hour. And during all of this, there was no warning stating the eventual disconnect as stated there would be.

Someone clearly dropped the 'ol ball on this one.

NO WARNINGS, i was trying to sell stuff all morning so i really was looking chat windows. Anyway if u chat off, gm messages show in ur screen and dont scroll up cuz on morning nobody talks so, dont talk shit, they gave no warning today. For me its just excuse, even when i dont died, dont try to to play with players, we are not that dumb, we still not watched that many tv to have our brain so burnt off.

all networks require maintenace, most companies are just better at handling it. And yes most networks have some type of storage device attached to them. There is this thing called a routing table, that gateway devices need to keep. Otherwise they'd have to look up adresses and routes for every single packet that gets sent. Now the working version of that table is in fast RAM, but it is also sent to permenant storage as well.
the problem is the lack of redunacy. If you turn off one device, you should be able to redirect the traffic to a different device. Traffic would be slower, but not stopped.

All networks do require maintenance. Agree completely. The problem is that NC must develop a way to let us know properly, or just shut it down until it is fixed.
Routing tables should not be the issue here. Most of the top end Cisco's can handle any of this type of setup and certainly could redirect you to a differnt machine or route out if need be. I would hope that NC has at least 2 pipes coming in from different ISP's into different ends of the room by differnet raceways so no one line out would take this down. And I know there are some pretty spiffy Juniper stuff out there that can be setup for true redundancy. The question comes into play, just what is this game worth to them. Their ISP should not be a problem. If it is, they should be talking to a tier-1 or tier-2 provider to get some backup into the systems. This is not just a mom and pop web page anymore but something that generates money and alot of people use. Their techs should be given the necessary money, equipment and training to minimize these issues.

I was on at start of maintenance lat night...after first disconnect Mon03 Apoligized to all who got boot and died from lag as he was given "conflicting" information about the maintenance. Apparently the new info relayed to Mon03 led him to believe that he wouldn't have to warn us because there would be no disconnection.

Lost 10% and they prolly wont take up my event Idea. Monitor PK event!
