FY 2002 numbers
Just doing some number crunching with the FY 2002 population numbers. This should not be used to make any interpretation of the financials or business viability of NC. Their profit numbers are a totally different story. :) These numbers are just to see how many people are playing the game.
  1. The US numbers don't include LoA server. We'll have to wait until 1Q 2003 numbers come out to see the impact, but I think we'll see that the US population has gone up a bit more than people expect.
  2. Good ^^: Between Sep 2002 and Dec 2002, the Lineage World has gained 3 servers (2 in Korea, 1 in Taiwan).
  3. Bad T_T: Total Global Dec 2002 Monthly Access is 2,875,853, down from 2,940,739 in Sep 2002 (down 2.2%). This loss is despite the growth of the US customers (+11.6%) and the Japanese customers (+9.3%).
  4. Good ^^: The Korean monthly access numbers dropped 6.3% from Sep-Dec 2001 vs 4.6% in Sep-Dec 2002. So, this may indicate an annual pattern of monthly access reduction between September and December. (Also shows that NC weathered the storm better in 2002 than 2001, which is good)
  5. Bad T_T: On the US servers, the ratio of daily access to monthly access has gone down from 0.539 to 0.506. This means that people are playing less on average.
  6. Good ^^: Based on these numbers, 0.35% of NC's Lineage customers play on US servers, up from 0.30% in September 2002.

Conclusion: On a scale of 0-10, where 10 is "Looks like Lineage is going to be the only game in the world!" and 0 is "Bail! Bail!", I would rate this report as 6.

I would say that the number for LOA would increase US numbers significantly, during KENT/IGG siege on Friday, there was 525 Users.

Of course Korea is dropping Nexus alone released 3 games in the Asian market. There are tons of games being released , everyday. Did you know Sega attempted to muscle into the Korean market with Phantasy Star Online (Xbox) with a one year free to play for 50.00 and an open contract (no clue to how much X-Box live will be after 1 year).
Lineage 2 and Lineage Forever will increase numbers dramatically.

The loss in Korean players is likely due to local circumstances and change in law that forbade players younger than 18(? not sure about this number) from playing.

#8 those circumstances were only in effect for a short period of time, when Lineage was given a Tean rating, that made under-13's unable to play in gamerooms(where most ppl play over there). however, NC rebounded and changed content that made the game All Ages again. ^^

6. Good ^^: Based on these numbers, 0.35% of NC's Lineage customers play on US servers, up from 0.30% in September 2002.

did anyone else laugh when they saw that one? well my figuring a long time ago about the US population only making up .1% of the lineage market was off by .2% (now .25%). rofl no wonder they hardly ever listen to our outcries. (but i still bow to them in thanks for exp loss reduction)

The circumstances included all the adverse publicity that led to the change in law and probably was not helpful to NC gaining or keeping players. The entire circumstance which played out over matter of weeks to months probably led to the decline, at least to a substantial portion of it.

I am not surprised that US daily playing is going down despite more people signing-up. NC in Austin has been doing a terrible job at providing customer service and respond rather scathingly to people who criticize them. Further, a recent e-mail asking them why they didn't do more about account sharing since they have proof positive that many from some pledges on Depardiu are account sharing for USD receive a reply that told me clearly to mind my own business and trust in the lord (LORD NC that is) and not to ask again. The reply also said that while account sharing is against the rules, it is not always a reason to ban. (I personally suggest that since one of the largest pledge groups accounts for much of this problem, NC will let them abuse the system so not to loose their business) Since NC is not very professional and since it appears that they do not care if people cheat as long as they get their $15 a month, I have become less interested in playing as have many of my friends. I love the game dearly, but if NC does not clean up its act, I will sadly be forced to move on, especialy since other on-line gamming companies are being much more professional and pro-active at addressing similar problems. If NC wants to up daily playership, they need to be better in tune with providing quality-customer service. ~~my humble opinionated opinion
