FY2002 IR Report
Well, it's that time of the quarter again and NC has released it's latest and greatest IR report, talking about the past, the present and future of NC. Here's the list of NC products coming soon to a computer near you:
  • Shining Lore - 1H 2003
  • Lineage II (closed beta) - 2H 2003
  • Trade Wars - 2H 2003
  • City of Heroes - 2H 2003
  • Tabula Rasa - 2H 2004
  • Wreckage - 2H 2004
  • Guild Wars (in alpha) - developers from Blizzard, Mission RPG, 2H 2004
  • Untitled "Quarter View 3D Game" - Medieval Fantasy, 2H 2004

Developers from Blizzard, eh? Sounds promising..

For Lineage, the future holds "initiating Part II, quality improvement and graphic upgrade".

One thing that has remained unchanged was that they still have console platform in 2003 in their chart, but we've heard nothing else about it.

Finally, the most important detail, US Lineage seems to be holding steady:

I wish we could get more information on Trade Wars. That site hasn't been updated since July, 2002 and was recently down for days

Oh it's dieing all right. Lineage II (CLOSED beta) 2H 2003? That's 4 months at the earliest. And that's CLOSED beta. So when will the final product reach the U.S.? 2H 2004? 2005? Haven't they already done about 5 betas so far for that damn game? It's too bad...by the time it comes out, there will be better games...again. Don't mess up the same way you did with Lineage. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Guild Wars. With the rate NCSoft AND Blizzard work at, you may be deceased before it arrives.

Oh, I also don't understand how City of Heroes, a game that started production AFTER Lineage II, is going to be released in 2H 2003 already, but Lineage II is no where close to finished.

Well, those numbers are a little decieving. Daily access's, 5,000 ppl? thats not 5,000 different ppl, thats just access's. I cant believe 5,000 different players play lin daily, lol. All that matters is how many active paying accounts there are. And concurrent users? lol, why u guys think NC runs events? just to make you happy? events also help the numbers in addition to trying to make us happy, lol. And if u notice, only in korea do they list more info, thats where they are highly successful.

Look at the report, they are way down from a year ago.

Btw-City of heroes isnt a game that was developed by NC austin. They bought that game. Thats why it will be out quicker.

Yup, I noticed that too. They listed the exact number of paying accounts ONLY in korea. How many accounts are active in the US? Not many, my guess is 10,000 at the most.

I dunno. But the numbers are really low since march 2002 by that report. We only got better by like 5%... lol

10,000? where are all the ppl then? lol.

I highly doubt they have 10,000 active paying accts. But we will never know-they dont even publish it, lol. Thats the only true sign of financials and growth, not how many hits their server gets. And between 2001 and 2002 looks to be almost a loss of 20% with using their numbers.

But business wise they will be just fine. They are fast becoming the number one publisher for the asian countries etc. Many new games will be published over seas by nci. And with city of heros etc they will be just fine im sure.

But as developers I have yet to see improvement drawing the western market. We'll just have to wait and see.

Not impressed at all....Lineage needs growth to continue. I dont see growth worth mentioning. Obviuosly, Ncsoft understands that it must put much emphasis towards providing games and cornering the asian markets. Ncsoft is wise to invest in other developers, which are many. As for Lineage, I expected a slow decline and expect it to decline more in the coming months as new releases come.

#7 That doesn't matter. If they can put out a game of the same quality faster, then they're doing something the Lineage II team is not. If this is the case, they should work on Lineage II instead so it gets fnished in my lifetime.

There's more like 15,000 registered users laying Lineage in the U.S at any given time. At any given time, there's around 500 users playing Depardieu and LoA, and 300~400 playing Ken Rauhel. Then there's about 100 playing the test server. On top of that, those numbers are steady, meaning that a different set of people are playing at day, night, or the afternoon. Add to that all the people who can only play for a couple hours a day...or maybe only on weekends, or even once a week. I would guess Depardieu and LoA see about 1500~2000 different users daily, and maybe 2500~3000 on weekends. 15,000 is easy to see. It's still not impressive, but whatever pays the bills.

I once wrote dwn the name of every Prince/ss I saw on Depardieu for a month, and the number came out to about 200. How many Knights, Elves, and Mages do you see for every Prince/ss? Just go stand in Giran. Maybe 1~2 Prince/ss and all Knights/Elves/Mages. There's far more players than you think.

Unfortunately IronClaw, is that NCSoft has figured out that caucasians won't go for the simple kind of RPG they provide. it may be big in Korea, but here, people would rather play Ultima Online, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online etc. etc. The worlds in these games is much larger, and they have far more registered users. I also believe that in Korea, NCSoft has a near-monopoly on the games market, meaning fewer games for them to play. So of course they're all going to play Lineage, or the number 2 game in Korea, Nexus, which Jake Song also created. see?

I dont agree Drathen...but lets not use the term caucasians but rather north america and I also believe Europe,South America and Asia enjoy high content gaming.

Ncsoft has basically cornered the Asia market. They are the main provider of MMP in asia and contrary to the claim that Korean players like simple kinds of MMP, Ncsoft is the providor of several HUGE new Releases and upcoming releases of games designed for the North American And Euro gamers that will be offered in Asia(China,Korea etc). Such as Ever Quest 2 and upcoming MMOG Horizons and I believe SWG also.

Why didnt Uo Eq1 Anarchy take of big in Asia? Well they were simply to early for the necessary business relations that it takes to offer the games in Asia at that time.

Now that all the companies are scrambling to get Asian providors for their games, Korea/other Asian high broadband areas will see a huge influx of games from developers all over the world. Competition is stiff and companies are fighting for position as this genre attempts to hit the mainstream gamers and non gamers world.

Ncsoft is taking advantage of their overwhelming success in Korea and using their resources to buy MMOG's from small developers, fund other developers and ofcourse offer providor services worldwide to Gaming Companies. They also have positioned themselves with large broadband supplies , hardware developers, and communication suppliers.

Ncsoft has evolved and grown enormous. With that in mind, Lineage(North America) cant be a top priority in their plans. This isnt a slam on Ncsoft just an interpretation. Unfortunately, for Lineage gamers, if Im correct, this isnt reassuring.

Daily 5000 is possible, why not?

There are 4 servers with say 300 ppl on whole day...
Most ppl play like 6 hours a day, so you get:
4 servers 300 ppl = 1200 ppl for 6 hours
1 day = 24 hours, so 4 x 1200 = 4600 people a day...

"Highest Concurrent Users"

is obvious artificially jacked up whenever there is an event.
and you thought Austin was doing us a favor...
they are just creating events to keep
shareholders happy with these
deceptive numbers.

Sort of like when ebaY has a free listing day to jack up
their listing numbers before their earnings quarter ends.

SpysLikeUs, even without event, you have to remember on weekends the servers average
Dep: 500 or so
Ken 450-500
LoA (I hear pretty high)
and test finishes it off.

1600 could easily be without event.

Oops... lol pushed add up there.. lol

well.. neways..

I can't believe why NC runs CLOSED beta for only Korea right now... *I'm Korean

But I live in US. I go to lineage2.com and access KOREAN.... They're at Closed Beta Test #3!!!!

How hard is it to translate all the Korean into English???? they can atleast finish it in like 3~4 weeks I think. Do they have a big world like now in lineage 1?

I think they should run Closed beta at least right now... It's not fair for ppl waiting for a CLOSED beta when Koreans will be having an OPEN beta...
