February 20, 2003 07:37 am ET - research by HERC, amer
Town Citizens
About 40 minutes ago, I suddenly got this message:

It appears that the first mayors were chosen today. A basic overview for those who need a recap. With Episode 12, you can now join a new town. Joining this town costs level * level * 10. Every Lineage month (5 real days - Lineage time is 6X) a mayor is chosen. The mayor is the person who hunts the most in your town. The mayor gets to set a tax rate (we're not sure exactly what this means -- what does the castle prince do then?) and citizens of the town get paid based on how much they hunt. Citizens also teleport home to their town, instead of the closest town.

So, I got that message (just my luck that I pick the town with the fastest leveller on the server) and I went to the Werldern town NPC to see how much my payment was, even though it wasn't a full week. My level 48 mage had hunted 1% since the update. This translated into 16 adena. HERC's share was 138 adena.

I guess that's not bad for 90 minutes of work (yes, I'm slow). Actually, I take that back, that IS bad for 90 minutes of work!

Anyway, HERC was nice enough to show us the "mayor's view" of the NPCs. In the screenshot on the right, you see his balance sheet. You see how much money to town generated and then a mysterious "Total income until now". HERC collected 384a for being mayor from this NPC as well.

On this screenshot, HERC is given the opportunity to choose the tax rate (he ended up picking 0). Notice the lack of instructions or explanation. HERC and I were both confused - we're sure all mayors are.

This could present an interesting decision for mayors -- if they raise taxes, then citizens get paid more, but everyone has to pay more for potions. If they lower taxes, citizens get paid less, but potions are their normal price. And how much does the tax set by the prince impact these things? We'll work on getting answers from NC. I had registered for Werldern earlier today and gained about 1% at level 48 hunting FV mops that day and my take was 16 adena.

Remember that these days no oranges are sold lol everybody stored 1000 or more oranges before aden came , up so the share should be more later + you get more exp and the normal 8x times more days so the ammount should raise, also becoming a citizen is a one time investment right? you get lots back if you stay at it i think , but i guess thats what testing is for , im not a citizen yet :S, i hope enchant scrolls will be sold in oren lots cauz thats where im going :)

Little remark, it's kinda logical mayors were chosen today,
if you click the citizen register, he says the date, it was 25th octobre
from the news i read about the system, every 25th of the month you can get paid out, this means the month is over and the new mayor is selected :P
Hopefully next week i get more lol >.< wasted 2559 gold so far ;)

So stupid from NC to make this so low - another useless thing in the game. Seems is useless to be a citizen, appart from escaping back to your town of choice...

Yes, everyone stored pots, but if Herc got 350 now, what will he get when ppl are buying pots? 500? 1000a? Its a joke!!

Now, I wonder how much the owner of giran (I would think this is the town that sells the most) makes...

QuickShadow_ it were the income of 3 mir days.... (and you got much more in 1 month) just give it some time. btw, i don't think NC would want to make it that you could get loads of gold back. If you stay long enough in the town, it would be worth it to call it a home town, if you want to switch a lot, don't declare a hometown.

HERC always profits quite a bit and only uses red pots when he hunts FV. He wears 2 fire rings at all times, has nice ac, a very good weapon and DK morph so he kills very quickly and takes very little damage. 138 is kinda funny though. I'll tease him about it when I get online tonight -.-

i dont see why NC continues to complicate the game. i think with adding these sorts of things it discourages newer players from staying in the game. it makes it 10x harder to learn what is going on if i was new to the game i would quit

So let me get this straight:
EP12
(1) Increased OJ price to 200 each
(2) increased the experience lost due to death
(3) created a place where you can buy back exp if you can afford it

So.. how are people new to the server supposed to make money to afford base AC? They can't hunt with OJ because they will never make a profit without AC to protect them... they can't afford to buy back experience... Do you know how long it takes to make 850K or so (full base AC costs) hunting places where you could use red pots? I'll tell you... a LONG ass time.. This is coming from someone that plays between 8-15 hours a day. Also, one of the reasons I moved to LOA in the first place was becuase the exp loss at death was reasonable... Now, I'm hearing about people losing 13,17,20% from a single death...

Really... I thought NC was all about helping new players, but it seems like this update hurts the middle-class the most... Why would they do that?

It's a conspiracy aimed at destroying you all. The real reason NC doesn't allow it's subscribers to visit the headquarters here in Austin Texas is because they have imprisoned many who have spoken out against them. I live nearby and hear screams come from the complex daily. They'll be coming for you soon... Rumor has it, NC employees are stockpiling weapons of mass destruction with the intent to delive to Iraq in the event of war. NC is doing the best to destroy you! It's a good thing you're starting to realize this -.-

I'm really frustrated with Lineage at the moment...

I just made a very huge move from Ken to LOA, started my own pledge, etc.. and have been enjoying the process of building up wealth/AC/weapons from scratch...

It seems EP12 has only worked against me, however, making the road longer and much more difficult. There's always another goal to keep you playing...some uber weapon, an over-zelled armor, some cool ring... whatever... But it shouldn't be incredibly difficult to finish up a base safe enchanted AC with a couple +6 weapons... Especially playing as much as I do. I thought OJ prices were high at 125 each... 200 each is rediculous...especially when an average mop (ww, lyc, dwarves, orcs, arachs, ants, etc..) drop around 100a each. It should be possible for ALL classes to be fun and level.

Now, with OJ costing so much, players are basically forced to use mages or elves range attacks to make money. EP12 forces melee fighting to be just for hunting experience at a financial loss, or for hunting bosses at very high levels. It's no longer possible for knights to play knights...or any chars to melee w/o -4x ac. Balance is shot.. the economy is nonexistant.

it is increased... horribly increased... some ppl losing as much as 17-20%
They increased it because "now you can buy 1/2 of it back--you can't have both"

I dont know about you Dep/Ken people, but on LOA, we were losing 6% max... now we lose 15% and have the option to BUY.. yes BUY 1/2 of that back, leaving us with a net loss of MORE THAN WE WOULD HAVE LOST WITH THE OLD SYSTEM, and NOW, we have the extra pleasure of PAYING for it.

....but I'm not bitter...

Sounds to me like the hometown system is just another plot to make more money for the castles. It would be nice to see more competition for the castles on DEP. It's getting dull & boring with one organization owning everything... Right now I don't like either side very much. Hmmmm, maybe it's time to dust off my prince and do some work...

this town thing is just something useless they can put into the game to make ppl think they are doing something for the game. and if they actually do advertise they can put it in their ad as this big feature you can look forward to. just like the dragons.

must be some kind of marketing term for this. something with the words tease and gullible in it.

LoL,
Didn't you guys read the whole thing about the chosen "Home Town"? It was posted last week or so!(Unless of course that was a bunch of crap spewed from the researchers at LC, which I doubt.)

According to the sources on Test server it does NOT matter whether you hunt close to the town you chose. The basis for getting paid is the amount of monsters you kill that are above your level!! For instance if a level 10 mage went to fire valley and killed bout 4 or 5 Lava golems (which should be red to the mage) they will get alot more money and alot more say as to who becomes next mayor. Or atleast that is the impression I am under!?!?!?! :|
Of course many people tried the whole "Home Town" experience, therefore the dividend was not so large for most of you! I mean how much can people make in one hour, unless they hunt in Oren or Heine Dungeon?? And, on top of that divide 8k@ by like 50 or so people (for example) and how much do each of those get?? LoL like 100@, but then ration out that 100@ based on how much hunting was done... Some people get 16@ & some get 180@. So logically it makes sense that you were not going to get your 25k@ for joining up back so fast!!

Ok post #48 Schwartz,
I think people on LOA are getting robbed... unless of course you were misinformed by the experience loss.
In Dep we have to go to a church and buy back our exp at a ridiculous price, I believe it is the same for Ken as well. For Lawful players lvl*lvl*100, Chao lvl*lvl*200, or so it was mentioned on Test in the Ep12 coverage. So everyone level 44 and under still loses the whole 12%, but once someone reaches level 45 they will lose 11% on a death, lvl46 loses 10%, lvl47 loses 9%, and so forth. Once a player reaches lvl 51 they will lose 5% on a death, and that rate (5%) stands for every level higher than 51 too. In otherwords that is the least amount of experience that can be lost by a character.

I haven't really heard of anyone, as of yet, forming an alliance, nor have I seen anyone or attempted, myself, to join a town yet. But I do believe that NC added these features for a purpose. I mean joining a town is a great thing for me. Saves me wasting b-teles, unless of course I have to tele to buy something :p. I usually hunt in Heine dungeon (because I am greedy :p) then I make my way back to Oren for a good ol' Elmore Hunt. I figure that either of those 2 towns will be the best bet for money. Most people hunt Elmores because they drop lots of money, and same thing for the Heine Dungeon. Also speaking of Oren, POST #10 Megasnake, even if nobody sells N-dais or N-zels in Oren you can just buy them from the store LoL. Don't complain about the extra 5k for Dais or extra 1k for Zels, because anyone can easily hunt in Oren for atleast 1 solid hour (polymorphed, if not and elf with b2s or mage with decent summons) and make atleast 12-40k in that hour. Also Ghouls, Zombies and Elmore Wizards/Generals drop N-zels, and Elmore Generals also can drop Two Handed Swords which are worth 9k sold in shops, and the ever so RARE Great Sword which is worth 40k in shops or worth atleast 60k to players LoL!!!

Anyways, what I wrote about the towns and their mayors, and the experience loss on levels is all my own interpretation of what I have read, it may be wrong so do not believe me 100% (I only ask to be believed 98% or more), but see for yourselves. Also I am glad NC keeps putting new things into the game, I definitely do not understand everything in the game, so I doubt people new to the game would either, but that is the whole point! What fun is it to know everything before you have had the chance to experience it for your self? I've seen pictures and a detailed analysis on how to beat and protect myself from Lindvior, yet I am still going to hunt him sooner or later regardless of what I know or don't for that matter. So to post #38 Johnnyblaze don't be discouraged by new things, confront them. It may turn out that these addages to Lineage are just what you're looking for, but you won't know if you quit!

i think prince of the castle sets the taxes and then the mayor puts in his/her set so if prince has it on 10% and mayor has it on 10% the tax would be 20%. if mayor has 0% and prince has it on 10% it stays on 10%.

ALRIGHT NOW IM MAD!!!! #40 ur obviously new the the game. When i was a newbie it was much harder to play lineage. Most of the monsters liek werewolfs and orc fighters were agressive, and we didnt have anything to protect us lie teh enwbies these days do. Everyoen was a newbie at some point.
if they wanted to make more people play there game they shoudl do 2 things. They shoudl probably make lineage free again that woudl get them alot of players, and they should also start selling their cd's in stores. Thsi woudl also help alot.
So shut up about the damn newbies

what i really want to know is if you can hunt other places and still get points for your town. It may sound like it on the post but that wouldnt make much sense...

How am i supposed to kill stuff above my level at heine? Let a lone any where else. The only thing thats red to me are insane boses. Drakes are in gold so #64, is registration designed for newbs or something? You said its better to kill stuff above your level, thats kind of hard to find at high level. Also, if your mayor you can see how much the town made yesterday, one time it said 2mil+. i wonder what this means, alls i know is i like big sums of cash and my name on the top of the paper :) I hope NC has a trick up there sleave to make this worth while or something

it doesnt have to be above your lvl (how would herc get anything?) and it doesnt have to be around your town.
