Okay, proving that amateras is MUCH nicer than me, he suggested I make a quick post reminding everyone that being banned from the RL picture section would mean that you will be banned from future features of LC. I'm not going to tell you what he's hinting at, I want it to be a surprise. :)

So, consider yourself warned. Don't do something you will regret. ;)

Porn
Fake pictures (we are psychic, we know.)
Pictures not of people (this includes no animals/body parts. We rather your face, thank you.

As for the server-going-down they were fixing the elf earth bug

I certainly understand the need for some decorum and I applaud that you are vehemanently monitoring the photo section for abuse, but your rules border on ubsurd. If I am an amature photographer and I take a self portrait and post it I could be banned for life, or if my favorite photo has not the best lighting, or what if my cat-who sometimes bats at mops as I play so is therefore a lineage player too-is included in my photo, or what if my best photo is a glamour shot, you will ban me for life for that too? In the words of Spock (and I am not even a trekkie) that is illogical. I am a huge fan of LC and except for the ill thought out article on julesss and the less than professional approach to the photo rules, have had few complaints about your site. I know it is an act of love, but since you do take money, please try and keep a little less flame and a little more class about approaching the subject. I pray I dont get banned for complaining.

#44- Did u even read the rules??? They aren't gonna ban u for stupid reasons. If your pic doesn't have the "best" light ing its still ok. Just as long as it's not totally dark where no one can see what's on it. If your pet is in the pic "with" u I'm sure they won't ban u for that. Just as long as the pic isn't just of your pet. I heard the reason they don't want glamour shots is because a certain person posted a glamour shot of themself and got harassed/flamed on the boards and in game because of it. I guess she was super beautiful already and the glamour shot made her look even better. They are just looking out for the best interests of all the LC site members. U don't really need a super great pic of yourself. Just a snapshot. The object is to show what the person who plays this game is like, not to prove how really really really good looking we are!!! =)
Hope this helps U out. Just find a decent photo and upload it!!! C U in game...

americorps: When the section first came out, we had no rules. That's right, no rules. ZERO. I actually imagined a nice section where people would upload themselves and we would all look and say "wow, I didn't know you looked so young" or "now I have a face to attach to your elf!" and everyone would be nice! What a great idea it would be!

What did I get? Pornography. Pictures of animals having sex with other animals. My own dog. Icons from the webpage. Anime pictures. Naked girls. Movie stars. Crowds of random people.

I literally added each rule ONE BY ONE, each rule came with a ton of abuse to cause it. All those rules were created because people abused them and FORCED us to make rules.

One day I'll open up the "rejected" file so you can see all the crap the LC staff has had to delete.

I wish I lived in a place where everyone would just understand the point and do the right thing, but no. Unfortunately, people like to dick around and abuse tjat section.

So, don't complain to LC for those rules - go complain to the people who made us make the rule in the first place.

The rules are more of a backup when we need to delete a photo. If you upload a self-portrait and it's not sexual and no one emails me a complaint about "how LC is supposed to be an upstanding member of the community, how dare you allow this perverted nonsense" then it won't be deleted. But when we delete, it helps to be able to point to a rule.

A sore issue for me - about the donation thing. It's optional. Don't donate if you don't want to. I DON'T NEED THE MONEY. If you think that the profit of $120 (which will go down when I make the next ISP payment) is in any way fair compensation for the over 1200 hours (not exaggerating) that the other LC staff and I have put into this site, I am horrified. I'll take the donation section down right now if you think I'm in this to make $120 over the period of two years.

And to respond to your other "problem" with LC:
Julesss article was taken down. We made a mistake, we corrected the action. What more do you want?

We have never ever banned someone for having a differing opinion, and yes, I have reversed bans when people made mistakes or given me a reasonable excuse. However, if you upload a picture of various forms of female genitalia 20 times in a row, don't you think the rest of the community should be protected from the other "trust-dependent" features I want to implement?

thanks for the response and I stand corrected. PLEASE NOTE FROM MY ORIGINAL POST that I said I understand that this is a labor of love..that means I dont think you are doing this to make and extra $60 a year, I know you do it cuz you love it and I appreciate that. Also note that I appreciate that you did have rules and were vigelant. I APPRECIATE THAT VERY MUCH. (Im full of appreciation today). I am not suggesting that you should not ban somone for putting up porn or BS. Read your rules and the original post for this thread though and see if maybe it sounds like I could be banned for life for using a glamour shot or a photo with bad lighting. That is what I was refering to.

As far as the Julesss article, you just gave me the "what more do you want" becuase above you said it was a mistake, in the area where the article was taken down, it was explained that it was taking down bucause the audience was immature...those are two different messages.

I also want to praise you for taking the high road and reversing bans. NC could take a lesson from you.

You took my concerns too much as a personal attack. I love LC, I use it all the time. I would not re-design it in any way shape or form. I refer people to it all the time and I am very VERY glad you manage it. It really enhances the Lineage experience in my opinion.

I apologize if my criticism sounded personal or inflamatory...it wasn't mean to imply anything about you personally, just a professional issue I was concerned about --- as someone who has a glamour shot...lol.

I'm sure you can tell that the rl pic section frustrates me greatly. :) I apologize if I was too harsh.

We threaten permanently banning people, but we really don't invoke our reservation of the right to do so often. We understand mistakes are made and hell, if your excuse is light-hearted enough, that's cool too.

The problem is that there are *habitual abusers* of the system. I mean, there really is no way for us to detect every fake or insure that all the pictures are real. I admit that there are likely fakes on there, but if they are, they're not obvious. We try as best we can and if we catch people trying to trick us, it's really annoying and we don't want to let people have access to other stuff which is trust based. (You'll see when it's done :)

I have mixed feelings with the Juless article. I've seen writing like that before, and it wasn't meant to be "trashy supermarket novel" filth. To me it was just a reflection of a facet of Dlirk and Julesss personalities. I like to let the reporters and the spotlight people show more of themselves than the robotic "I AM LV 49. WEAPON EQUALS PLUS NINE TSURUGI. KILL EQUALS GOOD" which everyone seems to assume everyone else is. I think it is possible to post that in a community which would understand that we're not posting porn, but just a more "real" aspect of Julesss and Dlirk.

On the other hand - this is a gaming site, not a dating site. Maybe it was slightly inappropriate. However, the main reason it was removed was definitely the immature posts and emails we received. That was just a little bit too much.

I don't have a degree in fansite operation. I'm learning on the way too - if the community objects to something, I can roll with the punches. I just didn't expect people to react that way.
