Player Spotlight: DreamCatcher

I remember when I first met DreamCatcher. It was perhaps mid-October when I was hunting me some ghoul teeth and FCA delivered another wonderful present to my doorstep. After Yeildarb had killed me, and I had killed him, I called in some elfy backup from Deeqs.

One of the elves that Deeqs brought was DreamCatcher. Dreamy was a big help, though sadly he could not save me from a second death at the hands of three more FCA. Ah, memories.

But we aren’t here to talk about my constant dying to FCA and DreamCatcher’s help. No, we are here to talk about DreamCatcher himself!


Dream is a level 48 Earth Elf. He has 18 dexterity and obviously usually uses a bow. But after a year of arrow shooting DreamCatcher finally has a reason to switch over to a sword.

What could possibly make an elf want to switch over to a sword? Well, his unsealed Ancient Sword might have something to do with it. With 35/20 damage usable by knights elves or princes his friend Deeqssss(Con elf) beat a level fifty knight…twice! When they tried it out on my elf, level 43 with –49 AC, ten hits did 300 damage. That’s 30 damage a hit on average!

Not just the sword is special to Dream; the story of how he got it is pretty spectacular as well. “Me and some ElvenKings and ElvenGuards were hunting,” He told me excitedly. “[There were] Three of us. Anyway, we hunted about 15-20 minutes then I got off to go to work. I didn’t even know I had the sword till after the hunt, and you know how hard it is for elves to get drops!” I must admit, that is a rather nice surprise to come home to!

The sword has very odd damage, which might be a plus or a minus for Dream. His knightly friend did over 54 damage in one hit once while sometimes the sword does no damage at all! With a sword like that though you can expect to see DreamCatcher leveling up a new strength knight!

thats y it has disadvantages over a +9tsu...which would roll more constant high dmg
anyways thats damn cool
no will sell me an unseal scroll for ill stick with my 3/2 dmg :P

Dream here! I have to tell ya'll that the sword is phanomenial-I have already beaten 5 knights and it is one of the best swords I have seen in the game. I will eventually have a strenght knight. Thanks for the great interview~

ok let me use my amazing brain to show you guys why its better than +9tsu

tsu = 16/10 dmg
averaged out 8/5 + 9 = 17/14 average hit

ancient sword = 35/20
averaged out 17.5/10 average hit

now whats better? 17/14 with tons of ndais? or 17.5/10 with no ndais! and for other classes as well!

but yea.. ancient sword is undoubtably the best overall sword O.o;; but it looks sort of ugly.. sort of like elven con helm O.o i rather die than be caught wearing that travesty of a helmet..

I would personally choose +9 tsu for the constant damage
sure the ancient sword may sometime hit 10 more sword damage on your opponent
but not all the time and u may hit 1 damage sometimes
as well as
if u're fighting someone 1v1, could mean life or death for yourself
constant damage assures u certain damage per hit
reason it is better

but ancient sword is definitely the best sword for an elf or prince

Strength increases the likelyhood of the wielder rolling higher damage. Which is why he is making a Str knight and not a Con knight. with str spell, pgs, and knight he will roll roughly 30-35 a swing without damage additions and such added on due to lvl. Its quite possible he could hit for 50+ every 10 hits or so, and roll around 30-40 on average.

the str has a big affect on increasing the amount of damage u do on someone
your str + sword damage
as well as +1 damage added every 10 lvls for a knight and elf

it is quite possible
but
it may be possible to hit 1 sword damage with the ancient sword 10 hits as well

still an awesome weapon
I wouldn't mind having that on my elf and beating the crap out of knights hehe

kzsm your wrong. i was using my amazing math skillz first you average out damage~ which means taking the max amount of damage possible then using half of that. Then you add the damage bonus, NOT BEFORE.

Not to mention ancient sword has +5 hit rather than +2 hit

So ancient sword is the best sword hands down. Your math is flawed. Yes you will get constant damage with tsu around 8+9 WHICH = 17, But the average damage you will get with ancient sword is 17.5!

sure you will hit for maybe 1 dmg sometimes, but it will make up for it when it hits for 54 damage or more.

Yes it does mean life or death, but death will more often occur when your facing a person with ancient sword rather than with tsu. Because they might get lucky and get 3 60dmg hits ^^ or something. But tsu will never get that high.

Most of you guys are wrong... this sword has been tested extensively in korean test server as well as us test server. Though i have wasnt there at korean test server when my friend was testing he told me the results were as follows:

9tsu lvl 48str -60ac vs Ancient Sword lvl 48str -60ac
1st winner : 9tsu hp left 140
2nd winner : 9tsu hp left 131
3rd winner : 9tsu hp left 50
4th winner : AS hp left 100
5th winner : 9tsu hp left 30

both of these str knight had hp the same as well as same enhants and everything else. hp diff was 3hp

then later test was with 8tsu
1st winner: AS hp left 89
2nd winner: AS hp left 39
3rd winner: 8tsu hp left 45
4th winner: 8tsu hp left 72
5th winner: 8tsu hp left 54

A knight lvl 49 with -80ac took 10 hits from the sword
Knight using AS was str knight 20 str with pg and str spell

1st hit 28dmg
2 miss
2nd hit 23
miss
3rd hit 16
4th hit 32
5th hit 3
1miss
6th hit 25
7th hit 16
3miss
8th hit 4
9th hit 19
2miss
10th hit 21

This sword misses way more than 9tsu

9tsu results on average were much better and didnt miss as many times..

8tsu i would say compares to it but stillf or kngihts 8tsu is better than AS unless u get super lucky in whcih case manage to pull of some high roles

I did a little testing in us test server with a good friend and found that this was infact true for knights this sword is not worth unsealing. It miss more than 8tsu and the hits are way to random. Even though the hits are random the missing is really bad with ppl with 7x ac
This sword is only good for elfs/prince is best sword for their class

#2- in the classic RP style, which I am not sure if lineage follows or not (ask yammie or amer, they know everything @.@) damage is on a roll. The +s act as a modifier, so if you rolled 1 and had a +7 enchant you would do 8 damage.
#7- did you notice that all forgotten island items except for the bowgun cannot be enchanted?
#21- str is a modifier, I believe it does + the roll depending on your str.
#25- alot!
#26- consider the fact that, though this sword might not roll as good as the tsu, an elf or PRINCE can use it. Imagine marak with one of these :)

u don't average the damage rate
it wouldn't be accurate
the damage is rolled
imagine hitting max 35 sword damage 10 times in a row, sure, u would own whoever u're fighting
but what if u hit 1 sword damage 10 times in a row? u'll be losing your battle
the +9 tsu has a fixed 10 sword damage base when u hit, it won't go lower than that

u can look at it this way:

Ancient Sword
1-35, 35 different rolls
about 25.7% chance of doing 1-9 sword damage
about 28.6% chance of doing 26-35 sword damage
about 41.6% chance of doing 10-25 sword damage
each roll has about 2.86% chance of occurring in other words

+9 TSU
10-25, 16 different rolls
100% chance of doing 10-25 damage
31.25% chance of doing 21-25 damage
each roll has about 6.25% chance of occurring

constant damage is better than random damage
the odds r better for a constant damaging weapon than random damage

if u're an elf or prince
well, they can't equip a tsu
so ancient sword will be the ultimate weapon
if u're a knight
+9 tsu would be the best choice
u wouldn't want to take chances doing random damage
sure 28.7% chance of doing that big amount of damage which is better than +9 tsu
but also got 25.7% chance of doing terrible damage which is worse than +9 tsu

plus
ancient sword has +5 hit
+9 Tsu has +6 hit

what really makes this sword great, it is for 3 classes and not only knight
so if u're able to obtain this weapon
go for it....^_^

well~ this im not gonna write any more after this~ but all my posts are based on logic from what I read on these sites and based on their stats. The fact that in duels 1 knight wins the other is stricty luck, but if you were a math wiz like me, you would use numbers instead of tests.

Kzsm U DO AVERAGE IT OUT!!!!!!!! cause thats what the laws of probability are for.

compared to AS which is +5 hit
+1 hit does make a difference
so I wouldn't be surprised
reason ppl compare the AS = +8 tsu

if u want real proof
go have two equal lvl/AC/HP/stat knights
and let them duel it out
testing the actual weapons will get u results
not basing it all on numbers

that will determine who the real winner is
have u done those tests?

guys, the math really isn't that hard. Ancient sword is 1D35 or 1D20...one dice with thirty five/twenty sides. +9 tsurugi is 1D16+9 or 1D10+9...one dice with sixteen/ten sides plus an extra 9 damage. Now, if tsu was knight/prince/elf I would laugh in the face of ancient sword. But, as I believe knights are the "stupid people"/"lazy people" class I am all for the ancient sword.
Dont get me wrong, knight players, nothing wrong with you. Just that knight is the easiest character to play/level to 50 :) elf is getting close these days; hence the reason that I really cheer for a prince sword thats good and the new prince quest. As for mages, I pity you :( even I gave up on my mage.

for elves/prince(ss) this is the ultimate sword...

where as knights have the easy way out that can choose between the
KNIGHT ONLY tsu
or the ancient sword -_-

so stop saying it's a junk sword...

101 this is for YOU! You are obvioulsy not as tough as everyone thinks you are. This is becuase you obvioulsy LIE about how tough, or rich you are. Dream
asked, Dream DEMANDED that you duel him during the DK event, and you said no. In fact, you were such a good sport about it, that you brought your mage and
canceled him, then came back on 101 and said "oops". This not only makes you a coward, but makes you weak in my eyes.

What dream ment by, you couldnt buy that sword with ALL of FL's help, is that
his is the only one known to be on this server. Granted there may be another, but not that we know of. And if you think, for one second, that Dream would EVER sell you that sword, your crazy. Not all the adena in aden would make him want you to own that sword. Your a lier, your a fraud, and you cant even put one sentence of english together without making the world laugh at your
ignorance. This is my first post on LC, cause your the first person that i ever
