'Lineage' Revised to Be Teen Friendly
NCSoft's president has presented the planned changes to Lineage so that they could obtain a teen rating by the KSRB. These changes will probably have no effect on the US, since we already got a "T for Teen" rating.

One interesting change is that NC is planning to get rid of item drop on death in Korea.

the one reason that i could think that they are gettting rid of item drops has to where that kid killed himself after he dropped one of his uber weapons, and now nci prolly hopes that this change will prevent something like that from happening again

Yes, I agree that getting rid of item drops on death will get rid of most of the violence in Lineage. I mean, considering that the game is filled with PKs who you can't escape from, and you drop items all the time when you're full lawful. Plus, nobody will want to go to sieges anymore since you can't get item drops from other players. Castles don't make squat from taxes, almost all of the gains from sieges are from players' drops ^^

Actually, I think the risk of loss on your part to help your clan in a siege is a key element of Lineage. Taking out item drops may not hurt it so much, but taking out or nerfing exp loss certainly would...

The max playing time and addiction stuff is kinda funny... but I never like the idea of taking away all players' choice to benefit some. If some adults are bored as hell, why not let them play Lineage all day.. they are adults, let them be responsible for themselves. I know it would be unfair to the teens, but they could be tagged in game as having a max playing time so that other players could see it, and they could compete among each other. Maybe even give them special morphs.. just don't screw over everyone... Plus, determined players would probably just get more accounts and start working on items instead of levels.

Personally, I think the ratings are pretty ridiculous. It's like accusing video games, tv, or movies for the violence in society. Get over it, it's not their fault, it's because humans are seriously screwed up. That's life.

#5.. that's like someone nagging me, and I get annoyed and kill them. "It was their fault, they provoked me."

Both are clearly cases of overreaction, but the game is a scapegoat.

I know that what you said was not necessarily your view, so that was not really directed at you.

AGHHHH I think I'll go back to the US servers! Where goes the fun when the risk walks away? Now the only incentive not to die is exp loss... which only hurts lev 49+! Well, incentive enough for me.. but what about the jerks who just want to be... er.. jerks?

All female characters will now be required to wear Mu-Mus and vails!!

And they will also remove all the gambling, cause we know how sinful that is.

And you will no longer be able to kill NPCs, cause they might actualy look like a real person.

All dogs will now be muzzled so they do not bite any of the palyers under 18!

Anything else people???

I am an American with the naive thought that I was living in the last of the Victorian Societies.

But I am now a little shocked and taken aback by Koreas recent censorships. I can also say I now have no interest at all in visiting Korea for business or pleasure now that I am finding out what kind of warped sense of social morals they have also. I SAY ALSO so don’t scream at me as being racist please. I feel sorry for both our societies and the undue influence these so called harbingers of morals are doing to our younger generations.

Can someone please suggest a good country with an open society that allows us to act in a manner that will allow me to make a decision for myself?

Also, are there any companies in the D.C. area that provide enemas at an economic rate?

Yes NCSeoul is scared. Won't you be scared if your source of income is suddenly cut in half because most players are under 18 and are affected by these bans from the board?

Lol you get rid of item drop upon death this game dies, i know so many people who play just to pk and do go fighting on the chance that someone will end and drop, thats why lienage is better then everquest, diablo,DAoC and all those other games, thats why this game has risk, you take that out you take the fun out, nothing gets my blood flowing like being pk in giran and some guy bringing a gaurd, boy do i get a rush, and if you go afk then ur an idiot, i think gaurds should patrol all over towns. you take item drop upon death away, you destroy lineage

FlyZ.. I'd be more worried about the riots in game cafes and shizz over Lineage items, the people who play for 4 days straight and keel over, the fact that Poseidon could make Monitor21(babo of Monitor -_-) pump pots.. but that's just me and my vague resemblence to being a human being O_o;

This is a game. If your child can't tell the difference between MAKE-BELIEVE(read: Lineage and every other thing on the Internet) and REAL-LIFE(read: cool stuff like soccer and martial arts), you need to seek a loaded shotgun aimed at your head and put the child up for adoption, because you're worthless as a parent.

So they take out drops when die. So since there is one less punishment for PKing. There will be more Pking.
Hence more people dieing.
which leads to more people mad about losing Experince
which gets us right back where we started?

some unstable person, doing somoething stupid becasue of a Game.

when will society accept responsiblity for it's self, instead of finding scape goats.

I for one will no longer play lineage, if the drop rule comes to US server.

Note to NC Soft: Stop changing the rules, and let us play....

The majority of the people of the game is still the teens. The affects of items dropping surely don't outweight the amount of people being banned from the game. I think NC would have already analyzed this unless they do want riots o.o.

First off, good discussion from everyone. I agree that this change will have drastic effects on the enjoyability of the Korean Servers. Now one thing that hasn't been brought up is the question over where the korean pkers will go when they find out that they can no longer pk (and get drops) on korean server. Could you guys possibly see them making their way to the US servers since it appears we won't be recieving the same change. It is clear that people in Korea know how to get onto the US servers and this gives them an even greater incentive to try. So if this happens, we could indeed be effected by this change, though not really in a bad way. Just another thought.

Sweet now I dun hafta worry bout my level 5 char in SI with -5xac +8tsu dropping. Everything gonna die now... Hell I dun even gotta buy pots. I just die and use healer. It'd be cheaper. If I use my +8mailbreaker I can hit dv mops too. So I mean geez I'll just hunt till I die in ant cave then go back.

Yes I realize how unrealistic but still!

lol, those changes are just funny. they think the no drop of item on death will make there less pking? then what is the point of law/chao points? the only purpose after that change would be orcs would attack u and yer heals are crap. I would just pk som1 for the hell of it, what do i care?

lol, limited hours? "a warning message is delivered against addiction" ???? that would be so funny. So som1 who might play once for 10 hours straight is addicted but someone who plays it in 2-3 hour periods in a day for 4 years isn't? kinda screwed up there.

They might as well replace the swords of the characters with fuzzy pink foam sticks. i understand that nc is viewing this from a market point of view, and how is an item drop the "ability of virtual characters to steal a dead opponent's items after killing his or her character" This isn't diablo 2 hardcore here ppl! He drops it, like you would drop something in your hand if you were killed.

and an Nc counselling centre, omg, all the old GMs will become lineage therapists, "Hello, and welcome to Lineage Anonymous"

these kind of things are just another attempt to blame society's problems on games, which reminds me of this thing I saw on tv. It was a show about counter-strike and mostly they were talking about some of the violence and stuff it "causes", then one of the commercials in it was about a show and depicted a person getting shot, talk about hypocrisy.

like ppl said above, people see these games as easy scapegoats to blame the problem on, just making it less violence will only make people want to experience more of it. and if som1 kills himself over dropping an item, even if it were a friggin +10 tsu, if he kills himself he has a lot more problems than just lineage is causing. the gang violence and stuff the ppl are seeing in korea relating to lineage would have been there anyway even if lineage wasn't necessarily the cause of it.

Everyone just needs to take a proficiency test before they can play Lineage. A C.A.T. scan might be nice too, that way, they won't get any of these weird kids who kill themselves over a game.

#18 It's also scary because if they do this, they still might lose half their player base. Whatever they think will hurt them more. But maybe it's for the best. Then Korean players might find out that there's tons of better games out there.
#22 Soccer isn't cooler than Lineage.

And why does anyone care...? That stuff doesn't fly in korea, but here no one really cares. It's not like an 18+ rating would stop anyone.

no items drop at death will increase pk... cause one of the penalty of being pk is a bigger chance of dropping an item... you can still kill someone to make them lose exp but exp loss is nothing compared to losing a good item.. so thats why they are taking it out..

and it wont come to the us..ever. even if we get 50+ rating here it doesnt matter... no one cares about the rating in the us -.-

they might take out drop on death because a 14 year old, *A LITTLE KID* worked for 6 months, bought a +9 weapon for real cash (around 1000 dollars USD) and lost it. Lineage is an addiction problem in lineage, the same way drinking is a problem in sweden. They are trying to deal with it, by making the game less addictive, but still fun. NC would rather see someone on 1 hour a day for 10 years, then 10 hours a day for 1 year, they make more money the first way, and its better for the persons health.

Bah! We're all overreacting here! A couple months ago, the Greek government banned computer gaming. The bill was repealed in less than a week (to my understanding.) I think it actually helped the market, with all the people who previously didn't care starting to defy a ludicrous law. Perhaps we'll get a similar result...
