LC is moving
We're moving from this IIS machine using Microsoft Access to a BSD UNIX machine using mySQL. Hopefully it will be much much much faster and more reliable. So far we have the Location Guide up and are adding things constantly. Check us out at our new (temporary) URL:

How can anyone be anti-PHP or anti-UNIX?

To me there are two kinds of people. People who like UNIX and people who have never used it. :)

Hell yes it will run better on Unix with MySQL as a backend!! The problem with MS Access is, it is really meant for the desktop user to run small databases and will start to crumble if there are more than 10 concurrent users. I use Linux and MySQL at work supporting about 200+ users (At times concurrent) and I can honestly say it's lightning fast and VERY stable. The only thing I miss with MySQL is subselect queries. PHP is great too, blows the doors off ASP as far as speed is concerned. Kudos to LC for making a very wise decision and getting away from the overbloated bells and whistles known as microsoft. If you are anti-unix you must work for microsoft ^^

I've always wanted to move the site to UNIX. At first, there was no UNIX box available to me. Then, the site was so big that it just hurt my head thinking of how much recoding I have to do. (My last job's main systems were Solaris-SQL Server and my current job's main system is RedHat-Oracle).

Now, I'm so sick of having to disconnect the database just to free up the totally unreasonable ADO objects that are created and refuse to time out that I'm ready to rewrite the site.

...more pain while recoding for amer...
...but less pain in the long run right?...

is this the reason why the site down so often recently amer?
my web browser keep say "too much task" and some other junks that it wont display the site and say it's down..- -:

oh yea..so this site will be down for a while while recoding?
so we'll have to go to that site for news and comments and stuff? o.o?

You never have lag, even when the routers flake out? Interesting... There's more to site performance than bandwidth ace.

gigi - I have no idea why the site keeps going down. I know how to fix it real quick, but it's just a fix until the next time that whatever is happening happens again. That's the problem with IIS. No shell session to investigate. No top, no ps, no kill, no hup, nuthin. You're just screwed. Also, both sites will stay up until the transition is complete. You may have to check both sites to get what you are looking for, but I won't leave you guys hanging. ^^

Drathus - I may take you up on that. It's been a long time since I last touched PHP and there may be some new tricks I don't know about that I can steal from you. ^^

FightDaPower, here's a cpl good php sites that cover php basics and beyond: php.net phpbuilder.net There's more but this is way more than enough to get u started. Php excels in stuff like database based forum projects as it has support for just about every "real" database in existance. Well worth learning.
