Lineage 3D

The idea of making a new client for Lineage which lets us play with updated, 3D graphics has been mentioned as a side note here and there for about a year now. The basic idea is that, the game would not change at all, just the way you look at it. It would be like moving from a black and white 13" television to a HDTV color 60" projection television. All the TV shows are the same as before, it just looks alot cooler since you have a better TV.

Lineage - Korea has been hard at work and Jude1004.com just posted (http://lineage.jude1004.com/news/index.asp?pg=/news/view.asp&cts_id=3745) a video of the demo of the Lineage 3D (also known as Lineage Forever) client-side upgrade that NC is showing off at KAMEX 2002 in Korea. Remember, same game as before - new TV ^^.

Jude1004.com mentioned that NC hasn't decided if there is going to be a 3D server for this or if the whole game will be upgraded for everyone.

There are no game sounds in the video, there is NC - Korea staff pointing out each action. If you don't speak Korean, the "no sound" version should be fine for you.

the interface is very nice...
i wonder what those 10 slots do at the bottom of the normal hotkeys

seperate graphics for different type of weapon (dagger, sword), different postures, SIT o.o

First they should make it a standard client, Not offer yet another server. That WOULD kill US server finally lol. Between Dep/Ken/LoA/Test and then a seperate 3d server? Ughhh! They should allow people to choose wich client to use 2d/3d and bring it to all servers.

Also its zoom about , not sure how far , Priston Tale is akin to Lineage Forever , apparently we get scaled Lineage 2 models, with Lineage 1 world. The world is suppose to be expanded too.
They showed a katana and her drinking a brave. It was full zoom to show her body off.

I'm gonna cry if this client won't support OSX, though. This is the only game I've played since the days of marathon and bolo, and I won't buy a winpc just to play games - that's what consoles are for...

I think it looks great, but you all are catching the same thing - WAY too close! It's almost as if the peripheral vision is gone and can't see the make out of the environment. I think it would have been nice if they could do the 3D graphics, but maybe on a smaller scale - like Metal Gear Solid size - maybe at 1/3 of the screen - but most certainly not the FULL screen.

after 2nd look at the video..
there's THREE set of hotkeys apparently (3 tabs above the hotkey)
can zoom out..(at the beginning it zooms in)..not sure how much can zoom out to though

i'm still wondering what r those 10 slots for under the hotkeys

Hmm i was thinking more on the lines of pretty new graphics like they did to Talking island. Making smoother walk swing and then adding custom look to characters. That video looked just like Lin2. Ims sure gameplay is same but i love the Lin1 top view. Dunno if im gonna like this.

I think it wont tax the bandwidth MUCH more than lineage currently does. Most of the information pertaining to the equipment/armour of each character is transmitted even now...which is how hit/damage/magic spells used/morph/coi..etc is determined. The difference is that the current client does not support viewing all this data. Of course, there will be some additioinal data to consider including but not limited to (:P) characters sitting down, dancing(?)..etc I dont think NC have gone that far into this w/o first thoroughly considering and even testing bandwidth issues... certainly testing Lineage II must have raised this issue and given them ideas.

L1-3d is what they should have been developing all along.

Nobody needs yet another first person MMORPG.
we just need L1 with updated Graphics & AI.

Damn, LC sure has a great ISP for their FTP Server.
I just downloaded the whole file at 164KB/sec.

#68 Shah i believe you are correct to a point. You have to remember Korea overall has very high internet speed much better than ours, they play on computers in cafes which are upgraded frequently. Meeting their standards vs our standards is very different ballgame. I guess the US side really hasnt been tested too much yet. I do like it but i still like the lin we have now, and i also think it a bit strange for nc to implement this with lin2 so close. This could hurt lin2 badly, with many ppl choosing to stay with already built chars in a nice 3d world, instead of starting a new one on lin2. But, overall i think it looks nice(if you can zoom out alot), the graphics were smooth and gave some good personality to each character.

Graphic information isn't going to be a problem Cowboy. Its a seed such as

Elven Platemail might be 500
Broadsword might be 21

Those tiny numbers are sent, and the graphics are render over or on the model depending on how they do thing. We use to be able to see the list number, remember Amer?

Lineage 2 is for the people who don't get Lineage 1. Its also heavily Manga which is going to make some people not want to buy it.

If Lineage Forever hits before City of Heroes then I might come out of retirement. NCsoft-US is finally putting work into Lineage 1 which is sad because Lineage was always a great game.

Maybe none of you watched the same video. They showed him zoom in and out, almost as far as it would've looked normally. Anyone who was hoping for something more like WC3 and was disappointed by this, you'd better get your head checked. This looks far better than Warcraft ever could. Too bad it's not coming for awhile. I think May or June was the tentative date.

the graphics look really nice, this definitely has some nice potential.. it could also mess up the game pretty bad though, if they made it mandatory that everyone use the 3d client, which i doubt they'd do.. it could also piss players off if they make u play on a separate server with it.. they get us all excited about a 3d client, then make it almost like lin2 in that you have to start all over.. there is no reason why players with a 2d client and a 3d client can't play on the same server.. the only limitations would be 2d clients wouldn't see any of the extra stuff the 3d clients can..

i hope they were just showing off the models up close, and that the default view is like lin2d or war3.. i hate having to mess with 3d views all the time, but it'd be nice not to be almost completely restrained in the view like war3..

btw, sending lots of different equipment setups to every client should not affect bandwidth significantly.. it might cause hd lag though, assuming the 3d client loads stuff dynamically like the 2d client does.. i think 3d graphics are not very big in size compared to 2d graphics, but there would be more loading than the current lin cuz everyone uses the same sprites right now.. but right now we can only speculate on how bad the hd lag will be..

#68, in the current lin most info about your equipment is not sent to other players, only to you..

Looks good. I just hope requirements arent so harsh. And i beg top down view is available -_-;. it's like a guy telling a joke... It's really funny at first, but the more he adds on to it, the more the joke is ruined. Thats how NC is sumtimes --;.
