Multiplayer Online Game History
Online World Timeline is a huge timeline full of information on the history of online gaming. Its full of weird tidbits like in 1985 GEnie launches at $6 an hour. The average player paid around $156 a month to play it. While some hardcore gamers paid $1000+ a month. And you guys whine about having to pay 15$.

The timeline starts in 1937 with the publising of The Hobbit. And ends with in 2002, who woulda thunk it, with Mythic getting sued by Blacksnow Interactive over Mythic damaging their business by preventing the sale of in-gmae items via online auction sites.

I only have had a quick glace at this so far but it looks like Nexon's Kingdom of the Wind was the frist Graphical MPORPG. Started in 1994 and launched in 1996. With 1 year later Diablo, UO and Lineage getting launched. It also says that Jake Song Frist started working on lineage in 1995, 2 years before he joined up with ncsoft and launched the game.

Anyways this site is one of the best timelines i have seen on Online gaming, and longest too. I recommend you take a glance at it if your bored.

I think 1 grand is kinda low to be considered hardcore....
That's bout 6 hrs a day for 1 month. Hell I play lin 14 hrs a day lol.. That makes it 2.5 grand a month. BAH o.o.

The prince also got graphics updated, as you can see it's swaying motion that M/F Knights, Princess and Female Elf doesn't have.

if $15 is too much then why not at least pay in 4 month increments and get it for more like $11 a month

I use the $11.25 way myself. I know I am not gunna stop playing lineage in 4 months so why should i pay $15 more. I myself see $1000 per month being a little to pricey for something thats only text based. The idea of $6 a hour is just crazy for me. But i guess that was back in 1985 so i bet it cost a hell lot more to run something like that.
-----------------------------------------
I really didnt have internet til i think 93 or 94. I know i had internet on windows 3.1 for atleast a year. and we upgraded to win 95 when it came out. so hard to remember to when i was only 11

well, back then (1985) .... i was only 1 year old -_-;
anywayz, internet service must be REALLY EXPANSIVE, so is a computer
not everyone has computer like we do now -___-;
so those people who are playing online game MUST be really rich
and look at the economies these days -____-; it's horrible
soo......
in conclusion, 15 bucks is enough ^______________^;
by the way, lineage gone through lotta changes =)~ http://vip.cyberexpress.net.hk/~dagger2/lininfo1998/news/what's_old.htm

cool timeline
*1997 NCSoft releases Lineage
hehe, i remember that, i started playing Lineage when it was in beta testing in Korea december of 1997... those were fun times. got pked alot lol, only mops you could kill back then were orcs, stone golems, slime, human zombies, floating eyes, elders and dwarves. hehe you even become chao if u killed too many dwarves lol. imagine over 500+ players playing and all we had to hunt on was TI and it's cave...talk about over crowded lol... *ah reminiscing* --- this game is sure addicting^^

I use to pay way more then $15 a month, back when I dialed-up to MUD's, and you'd have to go to your local computer store and buy prepaid blocks of time in $10, $20 & $50 denominations ;) I was going to the computer store at least 2-3 times a month ;)

Speedlab - Your post made me remember some of the PHONE bills I had when playing MUDs during breaks from college.

I remember getting a $400 phone bill because my school dialup was a slightly toll number (that I didn't realize)... Man was I pissed when I got the bill.

Although it was funny/quite sad to see
New Brunswick, NJ..........400 minutes
New Brunswick, NJ..........185 minutes
New Brunswick, NJ..........641 minutes
New Brunswick, NJ..........1 minutes (because there always was a D/C)
etc.

Thank god for unlimited calling plans or else I would have gone broke.. =)

And damn you people saying that you were 1 or 2 in '85... Kids... At least I had the decency to be 9... ^^

Fascinating reading....9 in 85...try 26....lol oh well, I was in on the origional D and D...and had a blast playing on the old bbs's...hell, ran one on my old C64 meself...thought it was quite the system, with 3 SFD-1001 drives and 3 1541 drives...btw..the SFD's were 1 meg drives and the 1541's were 170k...lol

Tis truly amazing the changes in such a short time!

Good job on this one Amer...had to do a total reinstall of the game..from the PREVIOUS episode, because nci in their infinite wisdom chose not to send me the latest disc, even though I signed up for ti...try downloading 10k+ files all at once..mind you, tis 4.5 hours later, and I still have 3k in files to go..lmao

Ah yes.... the text base mud. That and the ACSII DnD. Those were the days. This was when to use the modem, I dial the phone and put it into a receiver cradle and whistling was a similar enough frequency you could screw it up and d/c. And I was 11 in '85.
