UnknownPlayer.com is doing a developer chat about how much can a mmog cost a month and still have enough people to play. Lineage's Melantus will be part of this chat. Thank you to Oldman for pointing this out.

so.. can i talk here? there is a chinese online game call jyonline in asia.... hmmm they charge about 24 canadian dollar a month by buying their monthly pass in store.. before i quit, that freaking company just stop making monthly pass and make players buy hourly pass and save some points to transfer the credits into monthly pass. that way the monthly charge raise to 26 can dollar.... that game once had about 1 million players playing that game in china~~~~~

Even $11.95 is somehow expensive.... let's do math.

With $45 every 4 months, I can buy any new game in the range of $40~$50, so that's 3 new games per year ~.~

I think that they should make more plans or lower the price!

Mel, will probably say " people already whine too much about 15 a month." lol

and they do....15 is prob max. but depending on the game, if lineage or any other current game were supercharged and Vr compatible and had a 10 ms connect and possibly voice built in, i'd say that would be worth 25 a month.

I dont know, I think Lineage would have a lot more people playing if it was 10 buck a month. Just think about it NC, lots of MMO are $10. For people new to the MMO world, they don't really care the story line or the items, graphics maybe but not the above 2, they look at the ticket price. $15 vs $10. It like 2 movie theaters show 2 different movies that you have no idea about, one charges 50% more. Geewiz, which one are you going to pick. The everquest thing works because you can start off in a $10 server, and when you REALLY like the game move to the other ones. They should make the current servers $10 and a new server $15. Give the new server an event every week or something like that.

re:#11 the first part of what ya say is very plausable.

I'd say tho, that a $15 server would be bad, you'd lose too many old vets off the old servers, making it sparse. Your going to lose vet players from their old servers everytime a new server does appear. Some will just want to start new chars and start off even with everybody else from zero and also many of the newer players as well.

#12:Hmm, I guess, but from the NC's point of view that doesnt really matter, it's the profit margin that goes to hand. People leaving one Lineage server for another is all the same to them. However, seeing how most of my friends started Everquest because it's $10, NC needs to change it's marketing stratigics in US...

They need to start having the Lineage software pre-loaded on major name new pc's. It's a free client and whoever buys a pc from say gateway or dell as examples, they would have the "free client software". installed on the machine. and they get the standard 30 days free.

#15 I don't agree that, plus, that's monopolize it, and NC could get sues of other games of that type.

If Lineage costed more than it does now

I do 2 things

Get Job
Get Family

I guess its really 1 thing

GET A LIFE --; lamers like me who play all but 5 hours a day don't deserve lineage anyway super lamers that play more I feel bad for since my body demands breaks after so long a time like i have to do push ups situps and such so i dont get fat. If u play more time a day then thats not enough time for sleep and body maintenance (I workout and eat in 1 hour every day and sleep 4)

NO I'm not uber lvl because sometimes I dont play sometimes I go to beach and bang gi... swim

and + my 2 old accounts won't let me renew since someone else create and 1 simply say it no longer exist --;

God This wasnt even about NCsoft and its prices. It had several people their from different rpgs decussing it. btw, it sounds like a lot of upcoming rpgs are gunna be 15$ it just costs too much to keep a good server going.

The sad fact is it probly doesn't. Companies will charge 15 because they know they can get it. When you charge more, you dont need as many customers. Less customers require less server maintaninces, gms, ect. Lineage set that standard unfortunetly =/

my acc has like 1,5month left, when its over, its over!

LOL funny how every one thinks they are going to raise the prices lineage can't afford to they will lose to many customers for us any way FAR out i'm playing 30 $ a month as it is NO WAY AM i going to pay 60$ a month to play this game that means i could buy a new game every month~!~~ :() it would lose all the australian customers ne way heheheh i like lineage and KaNfYgIrL what are u u so jealous that people work harder then u to get some where ? and earn alot of money for it so shut up O.o

Yeah, people having hard time to realize that it wansn't about Lineage. Although i'm disappointed that its Mel who came there and that Mark Jacobs didn't come.

The chat was bunch of MMOG-makers talking about pricing for these games. Not just Lineage related. Although Mel did seem to know something about these things too, cheers for him.

they were talking about MMOG, not about lineage, everquest, NVN or any game... only about "games" and "prices"

Titles can lead to many points of views.

Before Lineage went commercial, there was a discussion whether MMOGs which sustains a high number of players could continue with the support of sponsorship and advertisement. THEY never said anything about Lineage and voila...short time later...

LINEAGE will go COMMERCIAL.
NCSoft is pleased to announce that the beta stage of the game will end in bla bla bla and then the cost is hella high and so on.

Get the idea? Let people debate on the topic. Titles are to open up ideas, and just because ppl don't see your (e.g. 40, 41, etc.) POV, it doesn't mean they're stupid.
