COI
Just saw this on slashdot. Apparently, someone from North Carolina is trying to patent a cloak of invisibility. This should be good news for people who can't find one in game. Now you can have one in real life!

....cloak of invisibility...

in the game metal gear solid....
there's that stealth cammo or something like that....
but that one do refractive mirrors instead --;

this one if it generates identical light ...then how u put on a person?..
wear a suit full of those things in front back and side of urself and then turn it on so u'll be invisible?..

The military has been working on a type of cloaking system for many years. I doubt some random dude in North Carolina can accomplish what the government hasn't yet. Unless of course, the govt already has them...

or unless this guy form noth cakalaki is a super nerd like bill gates was when he was working out of his garage making windows :) it isnt impossible that it wont be made in fact its very probable you just have to bounce the same type of light of the person that the view sees around them. only problem is that so many people see so many different variations of many different colors that its near impossible to do for even just one person to see you invisible.

The processing power needed would be tremendous to achieve the level at which the human eye couldn't tell between real and a displayed image. I just can't see it happening anytime soon.

How ironic that your name is government ;)

Edit: What did Bill Gates actually DO that the Government didn't?

If anyone was to invent something brand new, highly-technological, and out of the ordinary i would bet the person is living in some place like north carolina. what do they have to do there? all their smart ppl go to waste picking grapes or doing whatever they do there. if this actually was released we'd be screwed... think of how much bad stuff could happen with these things. robberies, wars, break-ins, murders... now if the ppl buying it promised to ONLY look into girls locker rooms, i'd be ok with it ^^

lol! good one ruben :) yeah london my name really isnt government i just picked this one i dun know why :) i use LordStryder in game and AAStryder on the lin boreds but im poor and cant play. And the easiest but most comfrontational way i could see them doing this would be to implant chips into peoples brain that only allows them to see certain colors and then make the cloak do what ever is needed to make it seem like it isnt there. :)
But yeah I dought they will make one in my time :(

If somewhere, somehow, someone manages to build them and they become accessible, I think NC should buy a whole bunch and you should be able to trade an in-game coi for a real one.

North Carolina actually has significant technology resources. One of the main things found there is Research Triangle Park which consists of Duke, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and NCSU. People who work there work for IBM, Nortel Networks, GlaxoSmithKline, Cisco, US EPA, Sony/Ericcson Mobile, BASF, Underwriter Laboratories, Bayer, Lockheed Martin, Verizon and more.

Anyway - NC is high tech. Don't just assume otherwise if you've never been there :)

All I can say is that if this guy does manage to pull it off and not lose it to the government I don't think you would be able to move and still remain invisable. The processing speed and power required to keep you invisable while moving would just be way to much to incorperate into something portable like a COI. Honestly I just think it's some sort of a prank.

actually i bet it could be done with fibre optics. easy, light speed processing and no electricity involved. you could be invisible in the rain! well.. there would be a mysterious dry spot in the middle of the air but anyway..
it would have to be a stiff dome like structure you put over yourself tho, cause with cloth it would be creasing and waving around.
*goes and tries to make a tennis ball invisible*

it would be possible to make it, however, not sjure how, i think i read sumthing about reversing our bio energy somewhere, we are 100% energy, thats all, electrons and stuff, anyways, reversing it would make the rays that makes us "visible" to our eye's spectrum do sumthing... never testet it :P

well sumthing like that.. however doubt they got the technology to do such a "stunt" yet tho.... i dont however think it demands a high energy supply to do, maybe if they make it a spectrum shielding it would require a high energy source... bah who cares, cant afford it anyways...

COI in RL = super improbably as the guy on that web page said you'd need a huge COI to cloak all the batteries, generators, and Mooncrystals to power such a thing.

Reversing polarity of light? would require tremendous ammounts of energy to do for a few seconds, much less continually. Best we can hope for is a biological agent that would do as Post 34 say whcih would probably be irreversable anyway
