Client Update Information

Important Information for All US Lineage Customers! In the near future, we will be updating the game and game client with a number of new changes. One of these changes significantly affects the client/server connection. Failure to patch this client properly will result in an inability to connect to any US Lineage server. Because of this, we urge that if you have in any way modified your game client (by using the same client to connect to Test and Live servers, connecting to non-US servers, manually modifying any configuration files, shortcuts, etc) you completely uninstall and reinstall the Lineage client as soon as possible in order to avoid service interruption when the new client is released. You may find instructions for install/reinstall in our Support Knowledge Base and the current version of the US Lineage client on our Download page.

As a reminder, it is a violation of the Lineage User Agreement to modify your game client files in any way unless expressly detailed by NCsoft.

heh yeah everyone uses light hack so what the hell right? heh they're goign to be installing a backdoor code in our program so they can see who's modified files and ban everyone who has... welp there goes 80% of the lineage population

I don't use a light hack. I've never heard of a light hack.

IMO anyone that uses any kind of hack, no matter how small, should be banned.

I agree #9, anyone who uses illegal hacks should be banned. If that means 80% of the population is banned, so be it. I'd rather play with a much smaller group of honest players than a large group of cheaters.

Unfortunately, even if this IS some sort of attempt to detect cheaters... it will only be temporary. If people really want to hack Lineage clients they are going to. NCSoft's client-side security ammounts to basically dick.

i know alot of people use light hack and other hacks. but i have 5 computers at my house and one of the monitors really sucks and who ever is on that computer can't play lineage at night. so i got light hack for that computer only, and now we can all hunt together without loseing a person when we go into caves or it's night time.

LOL@yammie, anyways whats it matter its nothing new they just saying its against the tos to modify the client in anyway. I just wonder what kinda otehr changes they are going to put in perhaps it will be better but we wont know till they do it. So im not gonna jump to any conclusions untill i see what they do that way i can be happy and not worry.

this would b nice, I dun use cheats, I dun use hacks, if this can make the connection stable, I'm up for it, but mostlikely it can't..................

here is the way i see it...

NC wants to prevent hacking to improve overall game enjoyment.
they KNOW alot of people hack, this is talking anything from see-thru-coi hacks to petty lil things like the login screen skin....and they KNOW that if they were to relaease this kind of hack catching software, probably a big percentage of their clients would get banned. ill admit, i used a new interface skin. but does that make me as bad as those who use leveling bots, see-thru-coi hacks, and many other bad bad things? as i see it, no..but i am still in the wrong. NC gave out this little notice to tell you,IF you hack, you better stop and reinstall lineage to remove any bad bad things so that when they do release this new client, they still have customers!

my other guess is that they are changing the client so much, that almost everything known about how to hack it is gonna be so different, that any little hacks likes new interface skins will severely fuck up your client.

thats my 2 cents....

I am with Jaire I think it has something to do with Summon/pet lag. However, I don't see how could that possibly have anything to do with connection. They were fine before EP 12, they became lagged after, there was no connection related updates in between, thus, it is not a connection issue.

Reread the article, and notice how it seems like some 12 year old kid wrote it. It is not only completely unprofessional (which is something NCi would never write), but even just the words used make it seem like the article was wrote in 2 minutes. They only want people to re-install their lineage clients, and they hope through that, they can get people to loose any irreplacable hacks they might have had on their computer.

It makes no sense anyway... If you connect to test and live servers on the same client, you can still access the other servers... Only a major patch to test that affected the client would disrupt access to live servers with the same client. Its b/s, and if they wanted people to believe that junk they should have at least specified the update a little more.

And mort, every game in the world is like that. They all have NO client side-security, but at least some can prohibit modified clients from accessing their server. It just happens that lineage puts too much information on the client (probably to cope for the major lag their servers would have had with all the info on them), and they don't restrict the clients that can access the servers.

What it breaks down to is people just whining about cheaters. Who really gives a shit if someone can see night like it is day? Does it really hurt you when they use the lighthack? Do you suffer when someone disables the water?... people are too anal pretentious

(#14) just because your too stupid to figure out how to modify lineage, doesn't mean everyone else should be banned for doing it. they should just block modified clients - which would make ppl reinstall, but i don't think its possible to detect skin changes. and if it means 80% of their profit going away, they wouldn't choose to ban the people. because ppl use darkness remover doesn't make them a cheater, it just means they've figured a way around having to carry a lantern.

it's impossible to prevent modified clients from accessing their servers. you can come up with elaborate schemes to try, and they may seem to work for a little while, but they will never work forever or completely

nc has always been doing about as much as they can do to fight hacks, and has done a good job overall.. i doubt they will be changing anything now, and if they did, it would only have a temporary effect on client hacks

this notification will probably only matter to those who skip the updater for fast start-up
