September 11, 2002 06:15 pm ET - research by Kaerid, Ruben, amer
Experience Formula revealed.
[updated]
Before the September 2 publish, our experience formula looked like this:

L = Level
A = AC
XP = L * L + 1
if monster's level was 9+, then +50 XP
if AC was less than or equal to 0, then +7-A
if AC was less than or equal to -2, then another +7-A
So Lycanthrope which was level 16, AC -4 would be:
XP = 16 * (16+1) = 272
+50 for being level 9+
+11 for being AC<=0
+11 for being AX<=-2
for a total of 329

Through a long board post where Ruben, Kaerid, and I were working with Melantus to figure out what is going on, we came to the conclusion that the XP formula is now simply:

XP = (L * L) + 1
This matches all the Lineage Playforum data perfectly. The XP reduction we are seeing is that the AC does not contribute to the XP any more. Initially, we had another set of formulas, but it turns out that NC has increased the level of many monsters, while not changing their strength, which led us on a wild goose chase. That's good news (more levels, same strength = more XP!). However, the removal of AC as a factor is kind of a bummer.

We have already updated the monster guides with the new formula. We are also waiting for NC to announce the level changes they have made, so once they publish that, we will update the monster's levels too.

I am working on a "New XP" summary page with all the old levels, new levels, old XP, new XP and % change so we can get the big picture of changes. Click on the link above to see it.

Kaerid, in the third line you have
XP = L * L + 1

then later for the lycanthrope example you have
XP = 16 * (16 + 1) = 272

You have to change one of them around (because of the order of operation). Either the first one should be
XP = L * (L+1)

or the second should be
XP = (16 * 16) + 1 = 257

amer needs to change that it should be (16 * 16) + 1 = 257
the first one could be written as (L^2) + 1 or (L * L) + 1, but it is right without parens because order of operations is correct.

i love math. but heavy mathmaticians (terrible spelling probably) can be very paranoid, especially if they are big into statistics and probabilities, like "in the world, a person dies on average every 'n' seconds" and they spend the rest of their lives counting... 1,2,3...'n' YAY it wasnt me this time! 1,2,3...'n'...... ^^

they are blue to the first elf and the knight and are green to the lvl 50 knight since its 2 lvls higher then mop = green it means our drakes hurt so much more becuass nc made them lvl 3 times :(

1,2,3... *arg* damn, it was me :\

off topic: NC will NOT reveal the deathmatch score formula :(

----------
Customer (Rubén González) 09/11/2002 11:34 AM
"2. The score # is based upon how active a participant is while in the arena."
is there any formula? (if a player kills 100 goblins will he get a better score than someone who kills 99 taurverus?)

Response (Chrissy) 09/11/2002 03:17 PM
I'm sorry, but this is not something that we can elaborate on with any further detail.
----------

on topic again: how did the "if AC was less than or equal to 0, then +7-A" work?
+7 - 27 = -20 exp? or -7 + 27 = +20 exp? (cerberus example)

Well, for cerberus it is 7 - AC = 7 - -20 = 7 + 20 = +27

it's some sort of nerf of the exp :-)
only for the monsters that got 2 3 lvls added , for those you get more exp :-)

to ruben #18:
dm score : nc is lazy and all so best guess is the real exp you gain in dm in pure points(not%) but the real points you gain in there that's your score ^^

Amer, how come you don't make Ruben a Member of LC staff?

When I posted about the monsters, I was alot more intrested in the drop frequencies in general...Can't really go wrong with the Level and Exp, etc.
For example, Silhouette still has Old Belt of Soul as a purple, whcih is no frequency. I'm assuming it's actually Red, since no matter how many I kill, I never get one.

Vail: Ruben has never shown any interest in being part of LC. As for the drop frequencies, that information isn't just sitting at our feet. We have to collect it - I'm not sure what you're asking.. I said we are working on it, and that it takes time. Are you just saying that we're not doing it fast enough for you?
