King of Lineage |
Some people have been asking about the King of Lineage/Lineage Worldwide Championship. Briel, from Lineage: The Fact, sent us some info:
"One of the Hong Kong magazine (PC Gamewave) has mentioned that there will be
a "King of Lineage" event when Episode XI is published to Hong Kong server
(around mid-July). The winners of the event can have a chance to participate
the Lineage Worldwide Championship! However, no more detail is mentioned in
the article... The attached image is the article scanned from the magazine
(in Chinese).
I guess each regions have their own "King of Lineage" event, and the winners
of them can join together for the Lineage Worldwide Championship! The
details of the events should be announced around the end of June, because
the King of Lineage event in Korea last year is begin on 17-July and finished
on 26-August. Video of the King of Lineage last year can be founded on
Playforum."

C3PO reaches level 50 |
C3PO reached level 50 on Friday. C3PO is the 27th level 50+ player reported to Lineage Compendium (we're still trying to hunt down #24-#26). C3PO is the 22nd Knight to break the level 50 barrier and the 20th player on Depardieu server to do so.
C3PO is a CON knight. He hunts in DVC and places where other people don't hunt. I asked him if he had any equipment to show, and he said all of his stuff was ordinary. I'm sure it was an understatement though. :)
He's thinking of adding +1 to DEX at level 51, but of course, who knows what updates the future will bring?
C3PO had two messages:
Congratulations C3PO! |

HP Gambling Simulator |
The weekend we posted about the HP Gamblers, I went onto Ken server and levelled up and down over 600 times with different CON values for knights to try to get an idea of what to expect when levelling up and down.
Many people believe that the amount of HP you get is a totally random number. Specifically (for a STR knight), you have the same chance of getting a 6 as you have a 9 or a 10.
Based on our data (and this applies only to knights as far as we know), each CON has an "average" with is equal to CON-6, but never less than 9. For example, a CON 18 knight has an average level up of 12, while a CON 14 knight has the minimum average of 9.
This is outlined in the CON section of the Attributes guide, but the further you get from the average, the less likely the probability of getting that HP up/down. For example. On a CON 14 knight, where the average is 9, the probability of getting a 12 or a 6 is 2%, while the probability of a 11 or a 7 is around 20%.
With this information Sergey K. was nice enough to write a flash simulation of HP gambling for everyone, just click on the image and you can be an HP gambler, except without the tedium of an unhasted level 5 newbie :)
Be careful with "light speed" mode. It takes 100% of your CPU. |

Gnoll drops.. |
Nue reports that the Gnolls of Episode 11 (located in the Oren area, as you can see from the screenshots) drop Rough Mithril. These Gnolls are the plain, level 8 Gnolls (not to be confused with Gnoll Guards or Gnoll Elders of the recent US event). We suspect that since Gnolls and Zombies are both level 8, they drop Rough Mithril at the same rate. |

NC - Korea began updating its monster guide with the Episode 11 monsters. Some of the monsters are inconsistent with their [1/3] post a few days ago, and some monsters are missing, but it's a start. We've imported all the information into our own monster tables, so take a look. :) |

Test Server Update |
We appreciate our customers’ enthusiasm and desire to play on the Test server. Currently we are using the test server to test our login process. The changes currently in testing may affect your ability to access the Test server. Because this is a Test, we are not sure if this change will be temporary or permanent.
If you have signed up for an account using a credit card and you are still using the first 30 days of the trial period, then you will not be able to use the Test server. We do not have the ability to force the payment to be made to the credit card, so customers in their trial time on a credit will have to wait for the trial time to expire before they can access the Test server.
If you have recently paid for an account with an Internet check or Paypal payment, then you will have to wait up to 3 hours after the account is activated before the account will be recognized by the Test server.
If you have sent us a money order for an account, the account will not be able to use the Test server until at least 3 hours after the payment was received and applied to the account.

Resetting online gaming's future? |
korhiyen sent us a link to a news.com article which is an interview posted today with Robert Garriott, CEO of NC Interactive (not Lord British, but his brother).
Resetting online gaming's future?
Here's a response I thought was pretty interesting:
Are you looking beyond "Lineage" too?
Yes, we're designing lots of new products--some that are targeted specifically to the "Lineage" customer and some that might be more attuned to U.S. customers off the bat. On the "Lineage" side we've been working on "Lineage Forever," a continuation of "Lineage" with totally new graphics. It's an attempt to take the whole "Lineage" system and add a new look and feel to it that we think will be more applicable to the U.S. market.
Looks like we finally have a name for what we have been calling "Lineage 3D" and "Lineage 1 1/2". Lineage Forever seems to be [one of] the upgrade[s] to Lineage that will start after Episode 12. |

6/25 - Korean Test Server publish |
NC - Korea posted an announcement (https://bbs.lineage.co.kr/lineage/new_announcement/pre_lineage/read.asp?ListNum=37&NoticeID=2&PageNum=1) on a new update being published to Korean Test servers on 6/25.
- Dark Elf morph now shoots arrows at a much higher speed. However, the level minimum for this morph was changed from 40 to 52. [We think this is meant to address the fact that Bow Elves cannot take advantage of Death Knight morph]
- Body to Mind and Blood to Soul spell delay increased so that they could not be used like quickly back-to-back.
- Damage inflicted by dogs on players and damage inflicted by players on dogs has been reduced.
- Delay increased again on time between use of scroll of resurrection. This should not be noticeable under normal circumstances.
- Giran arena duel system has been modified.
- Oren NPC item list has been altered.
- Minor bug fixes.

STR and carrying capacity, continued |
Based on an article on Lineage Playforum (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1184), a STR 21, CON 18 (level 51) Mage, Ogoongi, on the Korean servers has a different story than what Poseidon and NC have been saying about limited effects of attributes.
Using a STR ammy, Power Gloves, Staff of Force and STR spell, a STR 21 Mage can have every possible strength from 21 to 32, inclusive. This mage loaded himself up to 100% and then looked at his capacity from 21 to 32, and noticed that for every 2 STR points, his weight decreased, as expected. However, at STR 28 (*not* 25) is when his carrying capacity hit a peak.
Based on this information, as well as research we have done on the effect of STR and CON on carrying capacity, we think we know the story.
The limit of 25 is not the whole story. Instead, we believed the most a character can carry is limited to 3600. With CON of 21, STR 25, your capacity is 3600. So, adding any further points to STR will have *no effect*. With a CON of 18, STR 28, your capacity is also 3600, so any further points do not increase your capacity. As Opethal put it in the comments below, if your STR + CON = 46, you are carrying the most you can carry.
We believe this to be what the level 51 mage and Poseidon have been experiencing these strange limits. However, this opens the question up again. Is there actually a limit of 25? Does it affect damage? We'll keep you posted.
This chart (also found in the Attributes section in the menu on the left), represents every possible STR/CON combination and the amount of weight that can be carried, based on our current understanding.

6/25 - US Live Server Publish |
The following updates will be published with the maintenance on Tuesday 10:00am US Central time on June 25th:
- Macintosh client will now display creatures properly that are much lower level than the player.
- A display problem with magic resist not appearing correctly on Macintosh clients has been fixed. The magic resistance was always being applied during gameplay, but was simply not displaying properly.
- Paper maps for the new lands have been fixed for Macintosh clients, to properly display the player’s position.
- Files in preparation for Episode 11 will be patched to player’s clients. These files will remain inactive until Episode 11 gets published fully.
Some monsters have an alliance with one or more of the four elements. Creatures may take less or more elemental-based damage, depending on the creatures natural alliance. For example, a fire creature would not be hurt as easily by fire attacks. This change was activated in a recent publish and is current in effect on the US Lineage servers.

Poseidon - level 66 |
Playforum checked in with Poseidon, the highest level Lineage character worldwide. He is currently at level 66.02 with 912 HP and -77 AC.
http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1180
http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1181
http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1182
However, Poseidon is a bit frustrated. By all counts, he should be at level 69 by now. What seems to be the problem? There is yet *another* soft cap at level 65. In fact, experience required to get from 65 to 66 is double that of any level up between 50 and 65. He realized the issue when it took him 13 hours of playtime to get 1%. He gave up for a few days in frustration, but it certainly takes a long time. Level 65 to 66 took him 57 days.
Since level 65, each hunt takes 4 braves, 3 haste, a Wand of Polymorph and 290 reds. After 20 of these hutns, he gains 1%. His grand total for one level is 31M in supplies. He uses a +10 tsurugi.
Poseidon also gave +6 to CON, which he regrets because he didn't know about the upcoming DEX/AC update, otherwise he would have transferred points into DEX.
His goal is to get DEX 18 and reach level 70 and try to 1:1 Fafurion again. He tried at level 65, but he died. After DEX 18, he's going to work on WIS 18 for an increased MR.
How strong is Poseidon? He dueled a level 54 knight, both hasted and braved, but Poseidon was not morphed and the level 54 knight was in Death Knight morph. Poseidon won by 200HP.
When he contacted NC about this newly discovered soft cap as well as his concerns (which you may have heard about earlier) that a STR above 25 doesn't let him carry any more, NC pointed out two things:
- Not only is there a double in the experience table at level 65, but there is another double at level 70, and another double *every 5 levels* from 65 up.
- Your stats have no effect beyond 25. That means that a 30 STR character hits just as hard as a 25 STR character.

Enhance hits level 52 |
Enhance just hit 52, making him the 4th level 52 character in the US. All the 52+ characters are knights on Dep server. Congratulations Enhance!
As some of you suspected, there are people hitting 50 and 51 and keeping it a secret until they hit level 52. This is most likely because at 50+, you are a high profile player, but your morphs aren't strong enough to protect you.
Enhance is a CON knight with over 700 HP. He added +1 to DEX and +1 to STR, making him a STR 17, DEX 13, CON 18 knight. With the DEX/AC update, the +1 to DEX gave him an extra -1 AC for -6x AC total. He hit level 50 at about May 17 and level 51 at about June 4.
He usually hunts in Fire Valley and Dragon Valley Caves and he does have a +9 Tsurugi.
I asked him what he thought about the new updates. He said it's bad for STR knight or any character without enough HP.
He doesn't PK unless someone hits one of his friends or pledgemates (FIRSTLOVE pledge) and has managed to keep a PK count of 0.
He'd like to thank:
Congratulations Enhance! |

HP Gamblers |
Lineage Playforum (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1178) reports three very .. persistent people who are using the mathematical principles of randomness (even though they might not know it) to get fantastic HP on their characters.
These three characters spent 3 months doing nothing but levelling up and down their characters from 5 to 6 and back to 5. They feel that characters can be "blessed" and that the trick is to level up on something much higher than you (like a werewolf) and to die to something much higher than you (like a guard).
They also said that if they didn't have at least 58 HP by level 6, they would delete the account and create a new account, since they believed that account to be not blessed. In the end, they have STR knights with as much HP as CON knights.
|
|
Is there a trick? Is this possible?
Well, according to the law of randoms, if you perform a random event often enough, there is a possibility of getting a bunch of good events in a row. For example, if you flip a coin 1024 times, although it seems impossible, it *is* possible that you will get a streak of 10 heads in a row once.
By the same logic, it is possible to get a good level up, a small level down, a good level up, a small level down and so on. For example, You have 50 HP at level 5, then 62 HP at level 6, and if you're lucky, level down to 5 with 54 HP, and get a 12 HP level up to 66 HP.
This is the same principle as gambling. If you play blackjack, there are times where you have streaks of amazing hands, just in a row. All you have to do is play often enough and it will happen. Incidentally, there are also a ton of superstitions around blackjack (change the table if you are getting bad hands, etc)
The difference between a good gambler and a bad gambler is that a good gambler knows when to quit and a bad gambler always thinks that even BETTER will come. For example, in one of our mathematical models, we had 107 HP at death cycle #1745 (would you know to quit then?), but at #2556 we had 7 HP (at level 6!).
In yet another model, at #3689 we once had 262 HP! (again, if you go past this HP, the next 7000 trials give you less (#10,000 = 75HP) -- ask yourself, would YOU stop at 262?)
Here is an example of how it might go if you just go from level 5 to level 6 over and over again:
5,000 repeats of level up to 6/level down to 5, with randomly getting/losing 10-16 HP on a level up or down
[correction - thanks Melantus] - The same random formula is used for level up and down, but you have to ask yourself if you would take that risk. If you do it 10 times, you might end up with worse HP than before. Even after 100 times, you shouldn't expect much result. It's only after thousands of times that you *might* be lucky enough to get something good. But would you even know when to quit? Is levelling up and down from 5 and 6 really any fun? Why play Lineage if that's all you're gonna do?
Okay, looks like some people are having trouble understanding this one. This is not a bug, it's not a trick, it's not a cheat, it's not a hack. It's *mathematics*. If you don't like math, or don't understand math, this will be hard to accept, but believe me, it's true.
Below is a link for an example level up and level down. You'll notice that each level up and level down is between 10 and 16, randomly. Character could level up 16 and level down 10. Or level down 16 and level up to 10. You'll see that this character reaches 197 HP (on line 6686), but he also reaches 1 HP, several times. Just take a look at it. It takes *alot* of time, but mathematically speaking, the level up/level down "trick" is not so much a trick, but rolling the dice.
Peak of 197 HP with no trick
Think about it this way. Have you ever played Monopoly and got three doubles in a row? Did you do it on purpose? Were you using a dice trick? No. It was random. If you sit in front of a pair of dice long enough, you *will* get 10 doubles in a row. This is what they are doing. They are levelling up and down until they find a streak of level ups that are better than their level downs. |

Cursed Ettin drops Tsurugi? |
It seems that the newbie lands have some great drops. It is common knowledge that zels and dais are dropping from level 8 and 9 monsters there. Looks like the bosses are even better?
This happened on the test server and personally, I think there are a few reasons to believe it. Once you get over the fact that up until now the only way to get a Tsurugi was to kill a Dragon or to collect a long list of rare items, you may be able to accept that it's possible.
Cursed Ettins are rare. On average, they seem to spawn every 4 or 5 real hours. If it's ultra rare on a creature that only appears a maximum of 6 times a day, we're talking about lottery-style odds here. It is not worth anyone's time to live at level 9 and hope for a tsurugi.
For those reasons, we're going to give this drop the benefit of the doubt. We'll wait until we have some more corroboration before we start calling it a fact. (Incidentally, we have a few good reasons to trust Sorelore, so if he's wrong, I'm gonna have to rip him a new one.)
But I bet if you're a newbie and you get a tsurugi like that, NC has scored a customer for life ^^
These comments were made by Melantus. I have posted them here so serveral of you non-believers can see the Mel himself says it drops.

The tsurugi isn't cursed, the monster that gave it was.
And yeah, it's true. Not a bug.

Gnoll event on Test |
(I bumped up this news since so much has been added -- enjoy)
Looks like the Gnoll event is underway. Three flavors of Gnolls are running around Dragon Valley.
The first is the Gnoll Guard (level 29 - thanks to Laura, Zerekh and Neo for help in figuring this out). The Gnoll Guard spawns randomly alone. It is slightly more common than Ogres in DV, but less common than Scorpions. They drop a variety of items: Adena (very common), Emerald (uncommon), Sapphire (uncommon), Ruby (uncommon), Diamond (uncommon), Magic Gem (uncommon), Condensed Orange (uncmmon), Belt of Body (rare), Potion of Bravery (uncommon), blessed teleport scroll (uncommon), blessed scrolls of enchant weapon and armor (very rare), regular scrolls of enchant weapon and armor (rare), blessed halberd (uncommon). These drops were confirmed by Melantus at NC.
Gnoll Elder (level 39 - thanks Flameboy and Brandon) is a bit more rare (I saw two in my hunting). They always spawn with 2 Gnoll Guards and drop Adena, Quality Sapphire, Quality Emerald, Scroll of Enchant Armor, Potion of Bravery, Knight Visor, Magic Gems, Old Belt of Mind and Lumber. Rumored to also drop Scroll of Enchant Weapon, Bec de Corbin, Old Belt of Body, Blessed Scroll of Enchant Armor and Blessed Scroll of Enchant Weapon. (Thanks to brandon and KAN0 for that info)
If you want to know how hard it is, here's my (amer's) experience: On test, I was a level 30 STR knight with -29 AC and a +3 katana. The Gnoll Elder and two Gnoll Guards (I had them all to myself) killed my hasted/braved/skeleton morph when using reds. I teleported back with oranges, hasted/braved/no morph and when I held down oranges I died again. Bring a friend.
There is also a Boss Gnoll, which very rare: Faruuk. Faruuk seems to be 57+ (thanks Neo for the picture and ruben and KAN0 for the level information). If you have seen him and are 49+, please email me. He casts erupt (very fast), tornado and he cancels you. He is reported to drop all belts, all gems of all qualities, all scrolls (both blessed and not blessed), blessed Bec de Corbin, blessed Katana, Lumber, Plate Mail, adena, Magic Gems, Spellbook (Tornado) and Spellbook (Eruption). (Thanks DNA, Brandon and KAN0 for that info). Please email any drop info. He is also rumored to appear with one or more Gnoll Elders and one or more Gnoll Guards. Bring many friends. ^^
The key is Lumber. One or more of these monsters drop lumber. Lumber is a rare drop from the Guards, but not rare from the Elders, at least on test. They can be traded in at Weldern Town for some fancy items.
Looks like NC heard us about the useless Scroll of Destroy Armor and what we're supposed to do with all of our Silver Serpent Scales :)

Effect of INT on MP reduction. |
We're trying to get the exact affect of INT on MP reduction in spells. Qwazin and I compared notes, so here's what we found.
- Elf - INT 12 - no change. We're not sure if this applies to INT 12 mages too.
- Mage - INT 18/19 - the MP discount is equal to the level of the spell, minus 1. So, for example, Eruption is a level 6 spell, 6-1 = 5, so there is a 5 MP discount on casting it. Eruption on my INT 18 mage only costs 15 MP. Hijiko verified the same effect on Dep with an INT ammy.
update: Okay, we have a theory, and here it is.
The MP discount is always ( spell level of the spell being cast - 1 ). So, a level 8 spell would have a MP discount of 7. It doesn't matter what class you are.
HOWEVER, your INT can limit this. Here's our theory:
INT | <13 | 13 | 14 | 15 | 16 | 17 | 18 | 19 |
MAX Discount | 0 | -1 | -2 | -3 | -4 | -5 | -6 | -7 |
Example: an INT 17 mage is casting Mass Teleport. Mass Teleport is a level 9 spell, so the spell discount is -8 MP, however, since INT 17 is limited to -5 MP max, the discount is -5 MP.
We invite you to prove or disprove this theory in the comments. ^^ |

New Spells. |
As far as we know, it's only the ones shown in the picture so far. Looks like you can buy them from Siriss (left) or Gereng (right). We're not sure if Horun sells them or if any of the other Mage Element spells are available as drops.
Don't get too excited, they don't work yet :(
Update: You can learn these spells on both Test and Ken/Dep. I have no idea when they got there, but I suspect it has to do with the SpellDesc file I just downloaded from both servers.
Update #2: All my spells I learned on Ken aren't showing up. We think that they are still learned, just invisible. Hopefully I don't have to shell out more adena to relearn ^^ |

Blue Potion entry in Item database
Since the newbie mops are not in the database yet, here is the gathered information on drop rates in the newbie lands:
Blue Potion: Rock Golem (uncommon), Valley Harpy (uncommon), Island Cockatrice (common).
Our guess is that all bosses and dragons drop them (like greens), so if you have proof please email it in. |

6/18 - US Live Server publish |
The following items will be included in the publish for US Lineage servers at 10:00am central US time on June 18:
- You can now drop the following items upon death:
- key
- tanari key [this is presumably the "gold key" from Baphomet -am]
- shelob room key
- amulet of dupelgenon
- werewolf room key
- The candle is now set to not drop upon death, regardless of alignment of the player
- A Scroll of Escape to Hidden Valley or Singing Island will work outside of the New Player areas, but can only be used by players until level 9.
- The maximum number of summons and pets a player can control is equivalent to Charisma / 6 (divided by 6). Prince/Princesses and Mages will get one extra, while elves can get an extra two.
- A new Summon table is being added.
- Level 28 - Werewolf
- Level 32 - Lizardman
- Level 36 - Ratman
- Level 40 - Bugbear
- Level 44 - Skeleton Guard
- Level 48 - King Bugbear
- Level 52 - Ettin
- The Teleporter NPCs in the New Player areas will teleport players of every level out of the region.
- Fafurion spawn is being reactivated.
- Stats of boss-type monsters and dragons are being increased.
- Added the Potion of Mana Regeneration. It increases mana regeneration in proportion to WIS.
- Dragon Scales will now spawn at rare instances throughout a wide range of locations.
- New player areas have been redesigned. NPCs in Singing Island and Hidden Valley will be different then previous locations.
- Added in new player dungeons and items.
- Added in the new Class system, which contains the following:
- Knight: Additional +1 “To Hit” for every 3 levels of the character
Damage +1 for every 10 levels of the character
- Elves: Additional +1 “To Hit” for every 5 levels of the character
Bow-only damage +1 for every 10 levels of the character
Base MR is 25 from the start of level 1
- Mages: Base MR is 15 from the start of level 1
- Prince/Princess: Additional +1 “To Hit” for every 5 levels of the character
Base MR is 10 at level 1
- INT can affect the amount of MP required for casting spells. Higher INT can reduce mana consumption. The amount of MP reduced will also be affected by the level of the spell, in addition to the caster’s INT.
- AC changes to Elves, Mages, and Princes/Princesses are such that these classes will take slightly more damage then before. Less damage will be relieved by their AC. Knights are unaffected.
- Kurtz returns to Aden.
- Staff of Mana has been changed to a reduced “To Hit” amount, and it’s mana draw ability has been reduced slightly.
- Giant Ant Queen damage is reduced.
- The delay time between drinking potions has been increased. Orange and extra healing potions have twice the delay between consumption of red potions.
LC note: Please email in any info you can collect on mana pot drops and their frequency. Thanks! |

Test Server |
Here's a list of the "new" drops reported so far. We can't comment on their frequency because the test server drop frequency is all crazy, but you can guess. Valuable items drop less often. Harder monsters drop more valuable items. That's really the only drop rate rules.
- Potion of Mana Regeneration: Harpy, Valley Harpy (from FightDaPower), Beholder, Degenerated Beholder (from Ogre), Ghast, Ghast Lord, Orc Wizard, King Bugbear (from Ryan), Dark Elf (from Trevor), Stone Golem (from Peter), Valley Harpy (from FightDaPower), Floating Eye (from Manzano)
- Spellbook (Greater Haste): Cockatrice (from Asclepius), Ettin
- Scroll of Enchant Armor:: Island Cockatrice
- Power Gloves: Crawling Claw (ss by Darien)
If you have any screenshots of the mana pots or the greater haste book dropping, as well as any drops from Kurtz or any drops from the newbie mops that are very rare (like Blood of Ogre dropping from a Valley Ogre), please send em in! web@lineagecompendium.com

High levels in Korea |
Ssizz over at Lineage Playforum (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051003&kid=1168) interviewed a few level 60+ players (apparently, there are a few) and posted some information in a recent news post.
Below, on Castoll server, is 0Hercules0 (thanks to jayrule for the name correction) - a level 60 STR knight (started as CON knight, but added STR). Check out his stats - he has over 750 HP, 23 STR, 18 DEX, 18 CON and -81 AC!
It's not clear that WhiteSunny is level 60 from the article, but what is clear is that he is a 52+ mage. Check out them ettins!

Test Server Report |
I wanted to make some observations to inform people who don't play Test Server about some of the new changes:
New Singing Island/Hidden Valley is *awesome*. Not only is there a new dungeon where you can level up quite quickly, but the entire bestiary of Aden is represent in weak form on the newbie areas. You can defeat anything from a level 9 beholder in the dungeons to a level 9 basilisk in the open. Complete with almost identical drop lists as their full-sized counterparts (but most likely in a reduced form). Degenerated Beholder drops c-dai and n-dai. Valley Griffon dropped High Quality Diamond. Valley Lycanthrope dropped n-dai. Starving Troll dropped a condensed clear. When I was a newbie, these monsters freaked me out. Now newbies will be broken in to killing a basilisk and perhaps be more adventurous when the get to Aden. Did I mention the great names? Starving Troll, Escaped Black Knight, Fatigued Ratman, Giant Tarantula. Go NC with the creativity! The newbie areas are so good that you will have to be forcibly removed (as I was) by the system the moment you cross Level 10, because you will not want to leave! One concern I had here was that when we killed the Cursed Ettin, I was at 9.98% and levelled up on its death to 10.02%. I was then immediately transported to Talking Island. However, I had no way to retrieve my amulet without dying and delevelling. Food for thought.
Cronos and the Dark Mage are no more, but they have been replaced with dungeon boss monsters: Cursed Ettin and a variation of the Succubus Queen. These monsters spawn in a room. There are many rumors with what will trigger their spawn rate. I wanted to address them:
- Rumor #1: "If you kill the Bugbears in the room of the cursed Ettin, he will not spawn." False. We slaughtered them as they spawned and if you stand in the room, the bugbears don't spawn. But killing them has no noticable effect on the Cursed Ettin spawning.
- Rumor #2: "If you are inside the spawn room of the cursed Ettin, he will not spawn." Undetermined. We happened to all be standing outside of the Cursed Ettin's room when he shouted at us. Myself and IndianaJones had been checking on the Cursed Ettin for four hours, when he finally spawned. Best bet for now is to make sure no one enters the room and just wait until you hear his shout.
We all rushed the Cursed Ettin (there were 3 of us, all level 9). He died quickly with under 20 reds to do the job (he was hitting me). He dropped 3 Red Keys. You can do two things with this red key:
- Trade it in for a +5 HP and +5 MP amulet. You can't give the amulet to anyone or drop it on the ground. I traded my three keys for three amulets. Now I have three amulets stuck in my inventory, I'm not sure that's a bug.
- Use it to open a door in the middle of the dungeon that connects Hidden Valley to Singing Island. There's also a Pandora-like NPC named Pago.
I didn't do the mage/prince quest, but I have been told that it's the same thing as the Cursed Ettin except it's a newbie Succubus Queen and the key is Black and not red.
Monster names can potentially have no color around their name (currently they have red, gold, blue or green to represent their level relative to you.) If you remember from last week, NC wanted to make some monsters give no experience at all. They mentioned that if the name did not have a color, you would not gain experience. All I can say to that is that on test server, killing a monster with a name that does not have color DOES give you experience. How much? I don't know. Is it reduced? I don't know. We'll learn soon enough. To my level 15 knight, zombies have names with no color. Pictured to the right is how a goblin looks to a level 9 character.
At 12:14 AM Eastern time, approximately 12 hours and 45 minutes from when test was usable, the first level 30, TheRock, was able to global. Moments later, FIFA and Akasia joined his ranks. By the time of this writing, the number of 30+ players was up to 5 to include PK99 and Code. That seems awfully fast.
Kurtz is back, wandering all over Talking Island and supposedly small wasteland from time to time. He has four black knights with him. However, the black knight groups that are in the small wasteland are now SIX not FOUR. |

NEO hits level 50 |
Finally, Dep provides us with a 50+ non-knight. (Just messing with you Dep ^^). Congratulations to NEO, the *first* level 50 mage on Depardieu server, the thirteenth level 50 player on Dep (on June 13, o.O), and the nineteenth level 50 in the USA.
NEO is a rolled (to people who weren't here for that period in Lineage, that means that his stats were randomly selected after hitting the roll button over and over again for hours and hours on end before we could manually distribute stats) mage. His is a CON 18, INT 15, WIS 18 mage, and it took him a month of rolling to get those stats! (He didn't just sit there and roll for a month, but a month after he knew what he wanted is when he got it) Needless to say, one of the updates to Lineage that was not his favorite was the ability to choose stats, since it just makes you feel less special for rolling cool stats (i agree!)
His hunting grounds are MLC 5-7f. He also pointed out that MLC 5-7f is the best place, in his opinion, for a mage to level up. However, if that experience change NC had suggested went through, nothing there would provide experience. He hunts with -58 AC and +8 Staff of Force. (Yes, he is a mage, and no not a DEX mage).
When he hunts DK, he can't do it himself. Instead he relies on his pledgemate, PR0FESSI0NAL. Which is how Lineage is meant to be played sometimes - with buddies. Obviously, not for XP gain, but for bosses, you gotta bring a friend :)
NEO hunts using three spells mainly. Greater Heal, STR and DEX. He is looking forward to all of the bonuses, but he still would like a mage level 50 bonus, which there is none yet. :( He currently has every spell except Resurrection. For Episode 11, he most looks forward to Meditation.
Also, he has had his share of lag issues, however, he did want to point out, that even with lag, it *is* possible to get to level 50.
He'd like to thank:
On a side note, he uses Linux sometimes to play Lineage. :) Anyway, congratulations NEO! |

NCsoft, Intel Tie Up for Online Games |
From http://www.ncsoft.co.kr/eng/news/contentann.asp?ListNum=28&PageNo=1&StartPage=1:
NCsoft, developer of the blockbuster online game Lineage, and Intel’s Korean unit said yesterday they will work together to develop and market online games to gain an edge in the increasingly competitive business.
In a press conference at Seoul’s Inter-Continental Hotel, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to optimize future NCsoft products, including the new version of Lineage, for use on Intel’s microprocessors.
``Online gamers will be able to experience better play with more detailed graphics, more realistic environments and improved frame rates, when maximized to perform on Pentium 4 processor platforms,’’ according to a statement the two companies released.
Through the tie-up, the two companies will conduct joint marketing campaigns such as promotions for NCsoft’s some 2.5 million subscribers, the upgrading of services at Internet cafes, advertising and joint trade shows.
``NCsoft's game data center is already based on 300 Intel Architecture-based servers to provide our customers with maximum reliability,’’ said the company president Kim Taek-jin.
"We've now expanded our relationship with Intel in order to continue to provide cutting-edge and exciting online game programs for our consumers,’’ he added.
Although the benefits won’t be apparent overnight, NCsoft has already made strong inroads into the Taiwanese, U.S., Hong Kong and Japanese online gaming markets.
In midday trading on Tuesday, NCsoft shares were trading at 171,500 won on the tech-heavy Kosdaq stock market.

Test Server Extended Outage |
Post by Melantus on Forums:
The test server is going to be down for an extended period of time, until tomorrow. It's not something we want to happen, but we need to get a few things corrected and properly done. We also want to do it right, so we need to work through this.
I apologize for the delay, but it is necessary.
Second post by Melantus on Forums:
I'm sorry we did not tell the players sooner. We did not know this would be necessary until just a couple of minutes before I announced that it would be down all night.
This long of a down time should not be necessary in the future. |

The End |
Alright! Test server is wiped. Try and get in and reserve your name. Maybe people had to find a way to pass the time on test for the wipe now that the events were over. Many of us stood around in town. I, Myself, spent 3 hours in duel zones today drinking oranges and clears and I used weapon break and such to try and kill the other people. I also spent some time trying to kill a guard archer, and that didn’t work out too well. Anyway, as we got the 60 seconds until server shutdown notice many gathered in giran to say good bye.
I hope this next set of testing will be as fun as the first. And good luck on the race to be strongest on test again.
I invite you all to look once again the test server album. We should add a little more later. So far their is 20 fun pictures of what happend before the wipe. |

+9 Blessed Tsurugi on Ken server |
(And also the last +9 Blessed Tsurugi that we will post about - +10 minimum!!)
Exekiel on Ken server just made a +9 Blessed Tsurugi. 5 n-Dai, 1 b-Dai to +7 and 2 more n-Dai to get it to +9. It took him 40 minutes to decide to put an ndai on the +7 to get it to +8, but only a minute later he did it again, taking it to +9.
Interesting story about how he obtained the b-Tsurugi: He says he just showed up to the Fafurion hunt of a pledge which is now an enemy. And he got the drop from Fafurion. Looks like sometimes spending some time with your enemy might pay off!
Congrats Exekiel on your new toy!

Some paraphrased facts from an interview in the official NC Lineage Newsletter (#6) (http://www.lineage.co.kr/lineage/aden_world/newsletter_no6_full.html):
How much of the Elven Magic is available on the Korean Test server right now?
Most of the elven magic is available.
Can you tell us more details about the Level 5 Elven Elemental Summons?
You need to be level 50, and you only get one elemental, no matter what your level, CHA, SP. You cannot have any other tames or pets out at the same time as the elemental.
Can elves change their elemental path?
Yes they can, but the penalty will be that they lose all level 3+ spells related to that element.
Does the elven spell "Return to Nature" work on tamed dogs?
No, dogs are not magically tamed.
Don't blank spell scrolls give the advantages of being a mage to knights?
Elves can cast spells up to level 6 already. Spell scrolls are only available for levels 1 - 5. In addition, only levels 1 - 3 scrolls will be commonly available, as level 4 - 5 scrolls will need to be picked up from monsters. The more powerful mage spells start at level 6. We can also adjust the drop rate of the level 4 - 5 scrolls as necessary.
Can you tell us more details about the Demon and Death Knight sets?
The Demon and Death Knight sets will morph you into Demon and Death Knight, respectively, when worn. However, there is also a secret penalty.
Can you tell us more details about the Sayha's Bow?
Sayha's bow is the best bow an elf can have. It can shoot magicl arrows even when you do not have any arrows.

6/12 - Test Server Wipe |
The Lineage test server is scheduled to be ‘wiped’ twice on Wednesday, June 12, in order to verify our backup processes and prepare for upcoming testing. This will clear the entire character database for the test server ONLY. Here is how the process will work:
If you actively test on the test server, please log in after 7 p.m. CST on Tuesday, June 11, and take note of your character inventory and level.
The first wipe of the test server will occur at 10 a.m. CST on Wednesday, June 12.
In order to test our restore process, we will restore the test server immediately after it has been wiped.
As available, testers should log into the test server after 12 noon CST on Wednesday, June 12, and confirm that their inventories and levels approximately match those of the prior evening (depending on playtime, this may vary). If there is a great difference in information, please use the Support section of the website to report this as a bug, or report it to the Lineage Testing message board.
The second wipe will start at 3 p.m. CST on Wednesday, June 12. The server should be back up around 4 p.m. CST.
The 3 p.m. wipe will not be followed by a restore and the test server will remain clean, so that we may appropriately test changes to the new player zones and prepare for Episode 11 testing.
Please note that the test server will be taken down and wiped more frequently in the future, in order to maintain a suitable test environment. News of planned wipes will be posted to the News section before they occur. |

More Korean World Cup events |
As part of the continuing celebrations for Korea's success in the World Cup, NC-Korea is having a few events on the Korean servers.
If the Koreans win a game, the GMs on every server will summon monsters for players to kill.
Poppers are being distributed to all players to be used if Korea scores a goal.
If you create a prince who's name is a variation of the name of the coach (such as ZHiddinkZ or XHiddinkX, etc), there is a level up contest. If you are the highest level prince with that kind of name on your server (and remember, there are more than 30 servers) by the end of the World Cup (June 28th), NC - Korea will reward you with a Ring of Teleport Control *and* Ring of Polymorph Control. |

New Customer Support website |
During this Tuesday’s regular maintenance (6/11/2002), our upgraded Customer Support website will be implemented.
If you need any type of support, simply go to the Lineage website and click on Support, or go to http://support.lineage.com. Effective Tuesday, June 11th, you can instantly browse our new Solutions Database to find answers to Frequently Asked Questions. You can search for answers by category, keyword, phrase, or complex expression. More advanced users may enjoy using the ‘Browse’ feature to find information based on subject matter and helpfulness ranking as rated by other users.
If you need to contact our support department for personalized assistance, you will be asked to create a support account by entering a user ID (your e-mail address) and password. Once you have created an account, you can take advantage of more advanced features like: asking a question and getting a personalized response, subscribing to receive notification of updated answers/articles, viewing the status of the questions you have asked, customizing your profile, and more. We invite anyone to send feedback on the new site by simply clicking on the ‘Provide Feedback’ link on the Customer Support website.
Key Benefits:
- Empowerment: Using the database to search for answers puts a wealth of information at your fingertips with no need to wait for an answer.
- Direct access: Questions submitted through our web interface will go directly to the appropriate NCsoft team, enabling us to help you faster.
- Multi-level support: Rather than just waiting for an answer, you may check the status of your questions, update your questions, update your preferences, subscribe to receive article updates, browse for answers independently, and offer direct feedback about articles and answers on the site.
- Participation: This system is driven by your feedback! The article rating system will help NCsoft staff identify information that should be added or enhanced, the article subscription system shows us what topics are most important to our users, and information entered via the feedback tab will help us in improving the game, the support pages, and other operations.
Please note that your support account is separate from your game account – if you have any difficulties with your game account, you will still be able to use the Customer Support website to get the help you need.
IMPORTANT! The following mailboxes will no longer actively accept email once the new tool is implemented:
support@lineage.com
billing@lineage.com
marketing@lineage.com
lineagestories@ncaustin.com
screens@lineage.com
bugs@lineage.com
mac-bugs@lineage.com
Instead of direct email, please use the Customer Support website to contact our Game Support, Account Support, Technical Support and Marketing/PR departments.
Articles, screenshots, player stories, and bug reports should also be submitted through this site.
The CS staff is very excited about this new support tool and believes that it will provide customers with a fast and simple way to get the help they need.
We look forward to your feedback! |

Me, not wanting to wait until NCI translated the new Korean Lineage comic got Amateras to translate it for me. Lineage Playforum - 6/7 report |
Lineage Playforum has some more findings from the Korean Test server on Episode 11 (http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051004&kid=1873).
Previously, it was reported that you could not teleport from any area where there is a boss. This has changed. Now you can only not teleport from Dragon's Lairs. In addition, PF mentioned that Ivory Tower has 8 levels and implied that Demon could appear anywhere from 5-8. Ice Queen also seems to appear on level 3 of the Crystal Caves.
The 2 NPCs in the Ivory Tower which previously purchased items (such as wands and spellbooks) have been disabled from buying items.
The NPC in the town outside of Ivory Tower now buys spellbooks at increased prices: - Level 4 spellbooks: NPC pays 1,000
- Level 5 spellbooks: NPC pays 1,250
- Level 6 spellbooks: NPC pays 1,500
- Level 7 spellbooks: NPC pays 1,750
Picture above, from top to bottom, is: Ice Lance, Fireball, Sunburst, Haste, Eruption, Cone of Cold, Haste and Sunburst.
Is it true that the town NPC buys Berserker Axe at a new price than before?
As of 6/7, the Oren town NPC still buys Berserker Axe for 500.
Can you sell elven crystals to any NPC?
No, elven crystals can not be sold.
Can you tell us more about elven Elemental Summons? What are they like?
Unfortunately, the crystals for the Elven Summon has not been dropped yet. Once they drop, we will provide more detail.
Is it true that the Ivory Tower NPC buys wands at half the price they sell them at?
When Episode 11 was first published to Korean Test, the Ivory Tower NPC did buy wands for those prices. However, since then, the NPC has been disabled (see above), so it may not be true any more.
Are all the rumors about the set bonuses for Demon and Death Knight set true?
No, not that we know of. If we find out what the bonus is, we will post it. |

Level 50: KnightRyduz |
KnightRyduz is the fourteenth level 50 knight in the USA, the twelfth level 50 player on Dep (all twelve are knights) and the seventeenth level 50 player in the USA. Congratulations KnightRyduz!
It took KnightRyduz, a STR knight, 2 months to get from 49 to 50. The first 70% in DVC 2-3f and the final 30% in Fire Valley. "School got in the way" he says, and rightfully so. School is more important than Lineage, don't you forget it!
Using his MR set, he has -58 AC and he hunts with a +7 Tsurugi and +9 Rapier. He plans to get to 52, with his next two points going into STR. With summer coming soon, he'll have more time to play and he is looking forward to Episode 11 to get a piece of the Demon as well as hopefully a DK set.
Congratulations KnightRyduz! |

While they're sorting everything out, the Lineage Compendium LinWeb rankings will be unable to update. Updating 1000+ users every day is a big load on their https server, so let's be patient and hope that they can get this available to us as soon as possible. |

2002 World Cup - Korea/Japan |
(For those of you too impatient to actually read more than one paragraph before skipping down to the comment section, this actually *does* have to do with Lineage, so please read the whole thing first.)
Soccer (or as the rest of the world calls it, Football) is a very important sport worldwide (except in the US for some reason). More fans show up for Round 1 of the World Cup than for the Superbowl. In case you've had your head in a closet for the past week, South Korea has pulled off quite an amazing feat.
First some important facts. #1 South Korea has never ever won a game in the World Cup. #2 The hosting country never lost it's first game. South Korea was destined to be the first country to both host the World Cup and lose the first round, but they proved everyone wrong with a 2-0 upset over Poland. On top of winning, this was also the second shutout in World Cup history.
As I said, soccer is a very important sport - so most Americans may not be able to understand what I mean when I say that Korea is celebrating like crazy! Imagine the excitement in Chicago after the Bulls won the NBA Finals or in Los Angeles when the Lakers won except *across an entire country*. It's quite amazing (I personally love "underdog proves the world wrong" stories).
Yahoo! News article on South Korea's upset of Poland
With that being said, NC Korea (https://bbs.lineage.co.kr/lineage/new_announcement/notice/read.asp?ListNum=679&PageNum=1), as part of the celebrations, gave anywhere from an n-zel to a b-dai for characters whose names were a variation of the Red Devils (the South Korean FIFA mascot) or the coach and players on the team. Yes, it's *that* important.

NCsoft Launches Lineage Episode XI Oren |
Sorry I missed this blurb that went up on the NC main site on 5/31 (http://www.ncsoft.co.kr/eng/news/read.asp?ListNum=2&PageNum=1). Keep in mind that everything below is in reference to the *Korean* servers, not the US servers. Episode 11 is expected to be in the US Test server in early July.
Test server application starting today, official server update planned on June 26th -'Magic system now completed', 'Introducing the city of ice' [May 30, 2002] NCsoft Corp. (President Kim Taek Jin) today unveiled 'Oren', the eleventh episode of online game Lineage. Oren is the latest episode available following episode X - 'Dragon's Lair' - which made is debut five months ago. Oren's main theme is based on the completion of magic, the highlight of role playing game genre. Through the introduction of Oren, Lineage's magic system, which was first began in Episode IV - ' The Mystery of Magic' - is now to be fully completed, enabling Lineage to provide full-fledged fantasy world of magic. In this episode, new features such as the wizard's high level assault spells and a dozen of fairy spirit sorcery based on elements such as water, wind, earth and fire were added. "By making updates in this episode, we not only tried to bring magic forward but we also took tribal class with relatively low access to magic into consideration. In the long term, we are aiming at creating a game system that allows people of all class to feel a distinct sense of fun so that everyone can find equal enjoyment" said Chang Joo Hyung, chief designer at NCsoft. Centered around an ivory tower, Oren is a city of ice with spreading snowy fields and ice. It stands in contrast to the 'Dragon's Lair', the city of fire. Featuring characters like the queen of ice and tundra monsters, the latest episode is grabbing fast the attention of game players. The unveiling of Oren was arranged using two test servers today. The game will be properly updated in 38 regular servers on June 26th. |

DK/Demon set continued.. |

It appears that the Death Knight set enchants like a normal item, as the PlayForum screenshot had a +5 Death Knight Armor.
In addition, it looks like a new dog is available - the St. Bernard. It is not as strong or as fast as the doberman, but it has more HP and appears to regenerate HP faster. (30 HP at level 5!)

Tidus hits level 50 |
Tidus is the thirteenth level 50 knight in the USA, the eleventh level 50 player on Dep (all eleven are knights) and the sixteenth level 50 player in the USA. Congratulations Tidus!
It took Tidus, a CON knight, 24 days to get from 49.12 to 50, he hunted in Fire Valley. He died once at level 48, and is going for level 52. His AC is -6x, which makes it pretty hard to hit him. Below is a screenshot of the pledge +5 DSM.
His PK count is 0, but not because he doesn't PK. He lets his dogs do the work. And his pair of level 47 dobermans are vicious!
Congratulations Tidus! |

Kurei3 hits level 50! |
Breaking a streak of 11 knights in a row, Kurei3 becomes the second mage in the US to hit level 50 (both are on Ken), he is the fourth level 50 player on Ken and the seventeenth 50+ in the USA. Congratulations Kurei3.
Kurei3 is a STR/CON mage: STR 20, DEX 14, CON 18, INT 8, WIS 7, CHA 8. He has -52 AC with enchants and a STR ammy. Also a Ring of Air he got from DK. How did he kill DK? 350 clears 1:1. Did I mention the +7 Staff of Strength, +8 Staff of Mana and +8 Silver Long Sword? Packs quite a punch.
He has been playing for 1 year, but this character is 7 months old. It took 14 weeks to level from 49-50 in MLC 5-7f, and figures about 11 to level 51. He does intend to get to level 52.
Congratulations Kurei3 and good luck!

DK armor set, Demon armor set |
Update: Updates from Lineage PlayForum with screenshots from people actually getting these drops. The confirmed information is in green:
http://community.playforum.net:8080/bbs/prog/column?action=read&iid=10051004&kid=1862
I'll move this item to the top whenever there are updates.
We've been getting a bunch of matching reports on what these sets are, but no screenshots of people who actually own them. So consider this a pretty likely rumor:
Death Knight Set |
Demon Set |

|
AC: -4 Weight: 30 |
|
AC: -2 Weight: 50 Classes: All |
|
AC: -4 Weight: 10 |
|
AC: -4 Weight: 15 |
|
AC: -7 Weight: 250 Classes: Knight |
|
AC: -10 Weight: 200 |
|
AC: -4 Weight: 10 |
|
AC: -3 Weight: 15 Classes: All |
Set bonus: -5 AC, +100 HP, +70 MP, +1 STR, +1 DEX. Prevent all damage from undead but +2 damage from all other sources. |
Set bonus: -4 AC, +50 HP, +100 MP, +3 STR, +1 CON. Prevent all damage from fire but +1 damage from all other sources. |
The set bonus is the most questionable. Some of the emails said that DK set was "all weapons get undead damage" and the Demon set was only "prevent fire damage". |
